Security :: Login Button From Default.aspx No Longer Work
Apr 18, 2010
I am using the personal website template. The login button is no longer work (do not thing when push the button) from the default.aspx page after I added following code:
<div>
<!-- Emulated Google CSE Search Box Begins -->
<asp:TextBox ID="q" MaxLength="512" Width="275px" AutoPostBack="false" runat="server" />
<asp:Button ID="_btnSearch" Text="Google Search" OnClick="_btnSearch_Click" runat="server" />
<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="_rfvQ" ControlToValidate="q" runat="server" />
<asp:HiddenField ID="cx" Value="partner-pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" runat="server" />
<asp:HiddenField ID="cof" Value="FORID:9" runat="server" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="[URL]"></script>
<!--
In order to make the button's click event fire when the text box is highlighted, we have to have a second text box be a part of the form. Make it invisible so that the user never knows it's there. From what research I did, this appears to be an IE-specific problem. Nevertheless, this was the only "solution" I found.
-->
<input name="dummyHidden" value="" style="visibility:hidden;display:none;" />
<!-- Emulated Google CSE Search Box Ends -->
</div>

I developed our feature rich web page which is constantly changing. I'm not much of a programmer but I know HTML and CSS pretty well. I have a need to create a couple of login page for prospects and end users to get to secured content. I put together a page that works perfectly in Microsoft Visual Web developer Express 2010. This includes a login page. Ironically, after learning how to do all this from a book, there is a web page that perfectly chronicles what I am trying to accomplish and the steps to do it. It's here: [URL]
I don't expect you to watch it, but there is a simple aspx page created for login and then users are created and the content is displayed after successful login. It works fine in m development environment, but when I post, nothing. Furthermore, twice in the last two days, after downloading my current site to my hard drive, and then posting back after adding this functionality, my FrontPage forms stopped working. I had to have my website restored from backup. The whole thing makes no sense and I can't find any precedence posted on any user forums. So any testing I do seems to wipe out my navigation structure.
I'm going to establish the site on a different server tonight and see if its configuration. If that works, I'm not sure where to g next. I'd appreciate any thoughts. The worst part is I can't post a test page or my Fropage contact forms stop working.

This code worked until I published a recent set of changes to the web site. It's very strange behavior that I am having trouble debugging. Basically, I implemented some custom code to allow custom configuration of login timeouts from an app settings variable.
When debugging the application, if I click remember me or not, Login works perfectly. Once I post the updated code to the live server, login only works if I have the Remember Me option unchecked. If I check remember me, it does not log in, and it cycles the user back to the default web page. If I access the site from IE on the live server, remember me works correctly.
Here is the Logged_In event handler code:
[Code]....

I am trying to secure very mixed content that is located in an ASP.NET directory. For purposes of this question, it can be ~/MyApp/.
I want all of the content in the directory and its subdirectories restricted to authenticated users. The default.aspx page, though, should be accessible to everyone. This is the web.config in that directory:
[Code]....
Now if you are an unauthenticated user, everything works fine if you request [code]....
The problem occurs in that visitors do not always request "Default.aspx". We have a default document configured so that they get Default.aspx even if they just request "/MyApp". An authenticated user works fine, but an unauthenticated user is directed to the login page.
Now I know that essentially this happens because even though the request for "/MyApp/" will actually end up serving up "/MyApp/Default.aspx", the security system is only checking for "/MyApp/" since that is what I requested. That is then getting the default security for the directory.
How can you configure an exception to allow access when no particular file is requested in the directory??
Is there some dependency between DefaultDocumentModule and UrlAuthorizationModule? In this environment, the UrlAuthorizationModule has been removed and re-added in order to make sure it fires for non-managed requests. I would not expect that to change the order of execution, though, since UrlAuthorizationModule usually goes after DefaultDocument.
A workaround could be to set up the opposite security with the directory being open, and then trying to secure individual files. Because of the (changing) number of files, and extensions, etc, and the fact that you cannot use wildcards in a <location>, this is not really a workable solution for me.

First of all, thank you for the attention.
I am having some trouble, I am very new to asp.net, and the last problem I had, I spent about 59 hours trying to solve, Now I have a new one !
:D well, I guess this is part of the learning process...
Well, in Visual Studio 2010, I clicked New Website. @ C# language, ... The template it gives is pretty nice, it creates a database MDF file, and a login/register setup ready to go !...
You guys can see it live AT CLICK HERE ...
Everything is working, well at least here at the local machine...
There are 2 pages in there, Default.aspX, and About.aspx ... I want to allow ONLY logged in users to view those 2 pages... I tryed a few things, added my account to a role called ADMIN,
In the web.cong I changed Allow"*" to allow"ADMIN" ... still didn't work.. Also, I was trying to avoid using roles for now, and I was trying to find a way to do this for individual pages in the same directory as well... If possible with out touching the web.config file...

So I posted earlier on here because I had probelms connecting the login control to my database. All the login controls worked except the actual login. I created a user, that went to my database, but the login part still went to the defult .mdf file. So I have rebult this website from scratch many times. Not a big deal, I'm just starting it. But I'm really confused on how to connect to my database. It seems one way will work one time, but the next time it doesn't, and I have to connect in a diffrent way. And I always get diffrent errors.
Here is what I need to do, maybe there is a easier way of doing this. I already have a 32 bit program that uses a database. I'm just creating a web client to connect to the same db. I don't mind using the default mdf with the login controls. It already there, why re create it.
My thought was to take the asp tables created for the loging controls, add them to my exsisting DB. Point the login controls to my db. Create a realationship betwen the login user table and my user table so when a user logs in, they will see the correct information. I tried to leave the mdf file for the login control where it is, but I can't connect that with my db.

I know this post is the same than other around but I can't get it to work the way I want, the thing is that the Login.aspx page have it in a folder not in the root of the directory, also the page that I want to redirect the user to is in the same folder, so far I got this in my web.config file
[Code]....
All pages contained in the Admin folder want it to be protected, the administrator needs to authenticate first, so my question is what I am doing wrong? need to take the Login.aspx and the admin.aspx out of the admin folder?

What do you think about an ability of having multiple logins and login types to be attached to the same user? Let me explain this by showing how database schema can be re-factored to support this model:
Remove [Password], [PasswordSalt] columns from [Users] database tableAdd [Logins] table with one-to-many relationship between [Users] and [Logins] tables.This will allow one user to have multiple credentials attached to his or her account of different types such as Username&Password, Windows Live ID, Open ID from different providers
You will be able to restrict allowed login types and OpenID providers in web.config
So.. do you think it is a good idea to add support of this model into ASP.NET 4.5/5.0 membership service?

I used login controls in my web site to authenticate users.
What I used are: CreateUserWizard, LoginView, Login, LoginStatus, and LoginName.
They are working excellent in Google Chrome. When I was working on the project my default browser was Google Chrome, that is why when I run the project from Visual Studio 2008 everything was alright.
However, later when I decided to check all functionalities on other browsers, Login controls don't work on any version of Opera and IE.
For example, when I fill the CreateUserWizard and click Create User button, it does very fast Postback, then nothing happens at all (no user created in the database).
Same with Login control, when I try to login with existing user details, it does very fast PostBack again and doesn't authenticate.

I have published a website when is a plain page with login and CreateUserWizard control in it. I have used the "aspnet_regsql.exe" file to configure my database such that there I can see the tables like dbo.aspnet_users. I have also added a the following to the connectionstring in web.config
<connectionStrings>
<add name="ApplicationServices" connectionString="Data Source=***location of DB***; Initial Catalog=***DB Name***; User ID=***My ID***; Password='***My Password***';" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
</connectionStrings>
I kept getting the "
Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster.
" whenever I try to create user account using the CreateUserWizard control.
I am using web hosting account.
