Showing Internet Content On An Intranet Site

Feb 23, 2011

I've an ASP.NET application hosted inside a local area network. The application host machine has access to the internet while the local area network clients do not.

There is one requirement where I've to show a web page with rich content (images) in an IFrame from internet (public network) address.

However since internet access is not available on the client, this somehow has to be done from server and then needs to be served to client.

How can this be done?

Web Forms :: Queries Reg Internet, intranet ,emailing & Its Processing

Aug 20, 2010

i am into web development using but reg some concepts i need to be clear i am not much awate abt the netwroking & the routers , SMTP server etc i am aware abt public domain /IP which is accesiable all over like so when we attach a file, or place images or upload images or give hyperlink the files get stored on this publicly accesiabel space & hence visible frm anywhere

same is the case for intranet web applications/sites. its accessibale in the LAN setup as here too we have a server where we can store images files etc

so if i need to send emails with hyperlinks, attachemnents images etc & which shld be accessiable frm anywhere i need to have a public doamin & space & al this gets stored in that public space (server)

i think my this concept abt the intranet & internet is clear . if anythinh left out wuld like to knw
but i have come across a prblm in which i need to do communication between the intranet & internet

i have a server in the intranet . when i attach or link any files/images frm my emailing module frm my intranet server it shld be viewable even out side the LAN setup. for doing the same wht SMTP setting needs to be done, or shld i set up a mailing server. i dont have a public domain . without a public domain/space how can i achieve it whts port_forwarding & can my soulution be achieved using it

reg the same wht can be the best possible way that can be achieved

Seeking Technology To Upload Files From Public Internet To Intranet

Jun 18, 2010

Currently our external customer submit all other data through our public web site, but submit some artifacts (.coc, pdf...) through email, then our administrators save those files come from email to our internal server. This is not efficient, because we cannot identify immdeately if our customer submitted their required documents before our administrator saved them to the server. I am seeking a technology that external customer can upload files through the public website toan intranet server that the external customer would not notice they are accessing intranet server.

Installation :: Internet Explorer Doesn't Know App Is On Intranet After Adding Host Header

Feb 15, 2011

I have an intranet web app that uses .NET and Windows Authentication and IIS 7.5.

I originally accessed it with the URL http://computername ... that worked fine and there was no prompt for the username & password.

Then we set up a DNS entry and a host header so we could access it with a more realistic url (for example - I can still get to the site, but there's a username & password prompt even if I'm on the same network. We want to get
rid of this prompt...

I was able to remove the prompt by adding to my Intranet sites in Internet Explorer settings - but is there a global fix or a server-side fix for this that wouldn't involve changing a setting on every client computer? My users and not technical at all and they're not going to know how to change that setting.

Alternatively, is there a way that an administrator could push this Internet Explorer setting to all computers on the network? I'm a software developer not a network admin so I'm a bit over my head on this one ... I would probably need to give them instructions about how to do it even though it's not my specialty.

How To Track Web Traffic For An Intranet Site

Sep 16, 2010

I have built my intranet using MS Visual Web Developer Express 2008. There are several secured areas and my manager asked me to find out if tracking the traffic is possible. Things that I would need to track include:

Which unique user ID's logged in and when? How many times did the same user login? Last login What info was accessed? What page(s) had the most hits? Would I need a database for tracking purposes? Would this info be available with a "dashboard" interface?

Web Forms :: Browser Is Opened In The Internet Zone Instead Of Intranet Zone

Mar 31, 2010

I am having a .net project that builds the web based installer. I was using visual studio 2005 environment and the project is targetted to .Net 2.0 framework earlier. I don't see any issues with installing the product that was builted from above environment.

Recently i migrated to Vs2008 and .Net 3.5 framework and the i was facing the following issue. During the installation the web browser( opened in IE 6.0) is getting opened in INTERNET Zone which applied higher security settings including disabling of all Java scripts. The browser was not responding any click events( next or back or cancel).Copying the URL to the new IE doesn't have this issue. I am not sure whether it is an environment issue or not.

Security :: 3.5 - Set Up An Intranet Site With Windows Authentication

Jul 26, 2010

i m trying to set up an Intranet site with Windows Authentication. I have configured the web.config as shown below.

<authentication mode="Windows">
<roleManager enabled="true" />

I wanted to do authorization by roles so

<deny users ="?"/>
<allow roles="D820MySite_Developers, D820MySite_Admins"/>

I'm in the D820MySite_Developers group. When I attempt to login, it wants my password. I thought that with Windows Authentication it should not prompt for the password. If is use <allow user="*"/> it does not.

1. Is this the correct behavior?

2. My aspnetdb does not appear in the App_Data folder. Should it and is this causing the problem. If it should be there, how do I get it there?

3. I was under the impression that by using Windows Authentication, I can prevent users from accessing pages by folder. Is this provided by IIS or is this provided by Windows (using Windows Explorer)?

C# - Setting Up An Access Controlled Intranet Site?

Jan 26, 2010

An abstract high level idea of where to begin as I am totally clueless at this point.

I am setting up an intranet site (ASP .NET) where users from our local user group (who are also added in our user table) will have access to web applications they are given access to. Right now I am developing from my PC and using SQL Server 2005 Express as the database, but the final site will be hosted on an application server with IIS 6.0 and the database on an instance of SQL Server 2005. I am a .NET newbie and it's a daunting task, but the experience is worth a million dollars.

We are using Windows Athentication for our intranet site. Therefore I am not using ASP .NET's membership data sources. Rather all the user information will be stored in two tables tblEmployee (all employees in my company) and tblUser (all users of the intranet site).

tblEmployee has fields - EmployeeID, FirstName, LastName, CostCentre, Role, ManagerName, UserID
tblUser has fields - EmoployeeID, UserID, ApplicationID, AccessLevel, AddedBy, DateAdded

(I have set up these tables and I can change them any time).

What I need to accomplish - When an user goes to the intranet site, I can get his/her domain username. I need to check if this user exists in tblUser (domain username is same as UserID in tblUser). If user exists, we display all the applications he/she has access to, else display a "no access" page.

Specific questions:

What are some of the things I need to "learn"? (as I said before, I am a .NET newbie, but a fast learner too) I need to use URLAuthorizationModule for validating a page request. How do I hide the username from the URL? I was thinking along the lines of using a session ID... but then how do I know who the user is? I am sure these is a way to encrypt the UserID, just can't find it.

Security :: Intranet Site Authentication Against Active Directory?

Oct 2, 2010

I am trying to build a web app for an intranet site that for security reasons needs to make the user type in their Windows or Active Directory username pwd manually. I have previously worked with Integrated Windows Auth but in this case, we do want them to use type in their AD credentials.

I have been trying to look up how to do this and frankly I am a bit lost. It should be a fairly straightforward task and am hoping you can point me in the right direction, with some tutorials or examples. We will be using SSL so, dont have to worry about passing pwd in cleartext over the wire.

My environment is visual studio 2008 in C#, .net 3.5 if that matters.

Forms Data Controls :: Multiview Writing The Wrong Content But Showing The Correct Content?

Feb 26, 2010

I'm in a little bit of a bind and have some weird behavior happening with a multiview control behaving differently between two machines, and of course, the production machine is the broken one. The page renders the correct content on both machines, but if I save the html file the production machine's source is wrong.

For example, if for step 1 the output should be just the letter A, and step 2 the output should be just the letter B, and step 3 the output should be the letter C, here is what happens:

Step 1:

Production - The source and output are both the letter A

Dev - the source and output are both the letter A

Step 2:

Production - the source is the letter A and the ouput on the browser is the letter B

Dev - the source and output on the browser are both the letter B

Step 3:

Production - the source is the letter A and the ouput on the browser is the letter C

Dev - the source and output on the browser are both the letter C

Is this some issue with SessionState? I'm very new to Multiviews and by no means an ASP expert.

Web Forms :: Temporary Internet Files Showing An Incorrect Cookie Expiration Date?

Dec 28, 2010

i'm creating a cookie with an expiration of 12 hours from now. when i run my solution locally and go into C:Users..AppDataLocalMicrosoftWindowsTemporary Internet Files and look at the expires property of my cookie the date and time are correct. However, when I deploy this to our web server and go to the website i notice the cookie that got created for it has an expiration date of 2 years from now, minus a day. So the cookie should be set to expire on 12/29/2010 8:00 PM for example instead shows 12/28/2012 8:00 PM. Here's the code i'm using to create the cookie, pretty basic. And yes, the date on the web server is correct. I really want the cookie to expire in 12 hours, not 2 years.

Internet Explorer - Back Button Gets Disabled On IE 7,8 For Site

Apr 22, 2010

In an ASP.NET 3.5 website we are noticing that the back button is not working properly. If the user does several postbacks (say 10 times), and than starts pressing back button - the back button gets disabled before the user gets through all the pages. The site does not use

I can reproduce the issue on IE 7 and 8 almost always. The problem seems to be with some sort of limit IE has on History Cache for a given tab/instance. In the tests I did the post request to the server are large - around 83k, and the responses are are round 300k. It seems that with these request sizes the history does not hold more than 4 items. The moment I get to the 5 post, the first item i had selected is dropped.
