State Management :: Session Time-out : Object Reference Not Set To An Instance?

I noticed that when i am debugging my web application in Visual Studio 2005 using IIS, after about 10-15 minutes of inactivity, when I do something in the application such as a postback, I get an immediate error saying: "object reference not set to an instance" and my code breaks somewhere.Is my assumption correct that this is because my session has timed out? ( i do have a 15 minute default session time)my next question is, how do I display or set a way so that like many other pages, when the session has expired, a message will say: "This page must be refreshed" or "Your session has expired, click okay to refresh page" and start over again?

I have a url like this:
http://www.somepage.com/main.aspx. In this page, when I click on a link it takes me to a page
http://www.somepage.com/cental.aspx?cid=200. So in the cental.aspx.cs page I did the following in the page load:

So I got an error like: object reference not set to an instance of reference.My problem is, I am using the same page. So when I go from some page, I will have "comp". but other times not. So when there is no "comp", how do I handle it in request.querystring?

We have an applicaiton that was converted to the new framework using the wizard in Visual Studio 2008. When we install the applicaiton in production and change the iis settings to use the 2.0 framework we start to see these errors in the event viewer on the web servers. We are using SQL Server Session State and have 3 web servers in a load balancer. In the VS2005 environment, when I test my session to make sure the page redirects to the main page (itself) if the session is null, it works. There is no error.
The function I use for this is:

However, when it is in the production environment in IIS 6.0, when the session has timed out, and I then do a postback by doing some slider control, I see the page reload but immediately thereafter, it throws a Server Error exception of : Object reference not set to an instance of object.
Looking at the stack trace, the event occured:
AJAXEnabledWebApplication1._Default.Slider1_TextChanged(Object sender, EventArgs e)
however, why is it that the Slider1_TextChanged event fired even even after during page_load, the page was told to do a response.direct ?? shouldn't the entire page have gone through a full-page refresh life cycle ? why did it continue on to attempt to raise the Slider1_TextChanged event?

I have a web application using window authentication. There are a search page and a edit page in the application. In search page, user can enter some search criterias in the textboxes and the search result will be displayed in the gridview by clicking the "Search" button. User can select any row from the gridview and it will take him to the edit page. In the edit page, there is a "Back" button to take the user back to the search page. I use session variables to remember what the search criterias the user entered in the textboxes and what page number the user was in the gridview. So when the user goes back to the search page, the textboxes are pre-populated with the search criterias and the gridview is displayed in the correct page number.
The problem is: If user1 opened one browser window and did a search using search criterias1, then user1 opened a 2nd browser window and did a search using search criterias2. When the user1 went back to the search page from the edit page using the first browser window, all the textboxes and page numbers are from the 2nd browser window, instead of the 1st one. Can anyone explain this problem to me and how to prevent it? It will be helpful too if you can give me some links about the similar problem. I am thinking if the same user logged on two different machines and did the search on each machine, what is the result?

I'm using the following line of code to display the number of users currently logged on:
lblNoOfUsers.Text = Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline().ToString()
I'm still debugging my application so it's on the local server. As I debug and stop then debug again, eventually lblNoOfUsers.text turns to "0" instead of "1", even as I'm navigating my application. It only turns to "1" again if I log out and sign back in. It's almost as though Membership.GetNumberOfUsersOnline my login are referencing two different session states. How is this possible? Does asp.net create a new session state cookie each time I start debugging?

in my default.aspx page i have a dropdown List and a textbox with a submit button below that there are 2 listbox... and the dropdown list holds the names of the listbox
my logic here is to select an item from the dropdown list and put some text in the text box and submit the form which will add an item to the listbox selected.. but when i do this i get an error saying Object reference not set to an instance of an object. i tried to figure out the problem and found that when i remove the reference to the Site Master Page it works fine and when i undo and apply my reference back to the Site Master Page i get the same error.

I want to be able to persist data across a session but do this outside of the built-in session state object. Why is a long story that I will not go into here. I just need to know where I can put data other than in the session object that will persist across the specific session.

With-in my Web App, I would like to be able to create a completely new instance of Internet Explorer, keeping the original functioning as well. No problem doing a Response.Redirect or server.transfer to a new web page, but what I am trying to do here is to open a completely new explorer window. I would like to do so transferring a few session variables to it.

I have developed application in ASP.NET and placed on UAT server (windows XP IIS) where it worked fine but since I moved on production server (windows 2003 + IIS) after sometime its keep on expiring the session.
Please suggest urgently if possible how i can make it not to expire session at all.

On my local machine I've got a website running which uses the login control to authenticate a user and write a formsauthentication ticket to the client (which is also on the same local machine). At the login process it stores a a small serializable userobject in a session object named Session["appuser"]. Now when I open FF and login to the website all is fine so far... But here's the thing I cannot for the life of me figure out...
When I open IE8 and login to the same website, the session object which was created in FF is completely overwritten with the one created in IE. I thought that every session is unique, but now I'm really starting to feel my knowledge of sessions is almost next to nothing... Is there anyone out there that could tell me why I'm seeing this.
