How to remove the unused references in form level, vb.net application and web application?
How can I use fxcop to identity undisposed objects like dataset, dataview, connection, stream...? Any one having custom rules for the same?
Is there a way to easily tell which items in my css file are not used on any of my pages? I am trying to avoid going through each page individually.

I have a web application that dynamically loads assemblies based on database configuration entries to perform certain actions (dynamic plugin style architecture).The calls to the objects are in a Factory Pattern implementation, and the object is cached (in a static dictionary<> within the Factory) as the calls can be made many thousands of times in a minute.The calls to this factory are made from both the main web application and a number of webservices, some in different assemblies/projects.When I need to update one of these DLLs, I have to recycle IIS to get the DLL released.As this has an impact on another application on the server, I wanted to know if there was a way I could release the DLL without restarting IIS?
View 3 RepliesI have a windows service that calls a class library. The call to the Class library from the windows form application works fine. But from the service I do get the desired output. The event viewer does not report any error. The service was working fine until the recently when the server got remastered. Any suggestions what might have gone wrong?

This is the content in the master page as you can see there are 4 menu items i tried to form as sidebar and i tried to inherit in home.aspx(one of the content pages) as follows:

But unfortunately the sidebar is not at all getting displayed. I know i'm doing fundamentally wrong some where. My intention is to have web pages to have sidebar like this. It is a screenshot of my intended page.

I've gotten my application to publish (to a .zip file) but it points to the physical directory on my hard drive. This obviously will not work on the server.

(1). Right click on references in the project solution explorer
(2). search for System.ServiceModel.Web name space.
But it is not here. How can I add this name space to my project and .net pannel?
I am getting the above error whenever I attempt to run an application from the IDE. Any application. I have literally created a new asp.net "Hello World" app with absolutely nothing other than the aspx page, no code in the code-behind, and the only change to the web.config to enable debugging. The app errs immediately. Nothing is written to the event log.
The error is unique to asp.net, Visual Studio 2008, and has only recently started. I can run asp.net apps in VS 2005, and windows apps in 2008.The only thing I'm sure that I've done recently is installed SP1 for .net framework 3.5.
I have a Visual Studio solution containing two web applications. I would like the first to depend on the second (pages in the first may contain links to, or possibly post to pages in the second). Furthermore, I would like to be able to launch the first project on a development server (standard debugging procedure for web apps in VS) and have the references to the second project be fully functional.Does anyone know the best way to achieve this?
View 2 RepliesIs there anyway to localise an external assembly reference? Here's my situation:I am working on Project A and it contains assembly references from Project B. Now when I release this Project to my client I don't want to have to include the whole of Project B with it. Is there anyway to force it to copy the dll's from Project B onto Project A and use those references? I can do this manually by copying all dll's to local project and re-referencing but just wanted to know if there is an easier way.

Since I'm not familiar with Classic ASP, I tried running the source code in Visual Studio ASP.NET. However, I'm unable to run it (expliciltely denied). May I know whether there are special things to note when opeing and running a web application developed in Classic ASP in ASP.NET? The previous web application is connected to the school server, but I'm using my laptop's local host to run the application. Is that why I can't run the application? What are the steps needed to connect my ASP.NET application with the server.

I am currently making the switch over from Visual Studio 2005 to 2010. In 2005, you were able to right click on the 'web references' folder and update all web reference within that folder. However, in 2010 I cannot see an option to do this - I have to update each one individually.Anyone know of a way of updating web references in Visual Studio 2010 en masse?

When I copy the 1.1 dll into the location referenced by the 3.5 project, the 3.5 project will not compile until I close out Visual Studio and reopen the project. I think this is related to refreshing the reference to the 1.1 dll but I'd like a setting to auto-refresh the references.

I would like to create a DLL that I drop into the Bin folder instead of writing all my code inside the App_Code directory. Ideally, I want to create a project and reference it from the web site, but I am running into a difficult situation.
The DLL will need to reference configuration and other DLLs located inside the bin folder of the website causing a circular reference. How do I get around this issue?
