Web Forms :: Can A Login Control Event Be Used To Prevent User From Logging In Twice

Jul 23, 2010

I am using asp.net membership and the login control. I would like to prevent a user from logging in with the same use rname if they are already logged in. I would like to place code in the LoggingIn or Authenticate event of the login control to check whether the user is login and prevent them from logging in again. Any ideas on the best way to do this?

VS 2008 - Prevent The Same User Logging In Twice?

Feb 1, 2011

I am using standard ASP.net security and want to how I go about prventing the same user from logging in twice.

If the user is already logged in and they log in again what I want to happen is for them to cancel the previous session and log that session out.

Can this be written into the webconfig file as part of the membership profile? I have tried to find this and it does not seem to be possible.

Prevent Multiple User Logging Into The Same Domain Using The Same Browser?

Jul 10, 2010

So its a ASP.NET problem where two users using the same machine, same browser:

User 1 logs in the domain.
User 1 changes some data without saving it.
User 2 logs in the domain in a separate tab.
User 1 switches back to his tab and saves the data.
User 1 actually saved the data into User 2!!

This is caused by the following mechanism:

Different tabs in the same browser seems to share the same session id.

We are storing user auth in cookie and the cookie is shared between tabs (same domain)

Therefore, when User 1 request to save, it is recognized as User 2 since the cookie has been updated to User 2.

So I'm wondering if there's any other methods to prevent this from happening, other than:

1. Use cookieless session so the session is embedded in uri.
2. Always include a hidden field in page to indicate which user owns the page.

Asp.net - To Prevent A Single User Account Logging On Multiple Times In A Webforms Application

Dec 16, 2010

I am looking at how best to prevent a single user account logging on multiple times in a webforms application. I know that MembershipUser.IsOnline exists, but I've read a few forum and blog entries suggesting that this can be unreliable, particularly in scenarios where a user closes a browser (without logging out) and attempts to logon with a different machine or browser.I looked at implementing a last past the post type system; when a user logs on older users are simply kicked off. It seems that FormsAuthentication.Signout() only works for the current user.

Security :: Getting The Login Function To Redirect Depending On The User Logging In?

Oct 27, 2010

I am currently using the built in ASP login function... the destinationpageurl of that login function locates to "loginhome.aspx" for all users... but for one specific user ("Admin") it needs to link to "adminhome.aspx"... just wondering whats the best way to do this? Can I change the destinationpageurl of the login function depending on the user or creating an admin role so "If membershiprole = 'Admin' redirect to 'adminhome.aspx' End If" or can I just add some code behind the login function so "If User.login.Name = 'Admin' Then destinationpageurl = 'adminhome.aspx' End If" think I have already tried this on the login1_authenticate event but it didn't work

How do I log a user in manually, without using the Login control? Am using forms authentication, and have the dbo.aspnet table and stored procedures already created.

Is there something here messing up my login functionality? I can't log in. Before when I was logged in, I couldn't log out. It seems to have started when I clicked on "Remember me". Could there be something conflicting with web.config and the aspnetdb profile provider service setting that was initially set regarding profiles/roles/access?

Enterprise Library Logging Not Logging To Event Log?

Jun 3, 2010

I spent a day trying to make Ent Lib Logging work and log anything into database or event log. I have a web application and console application with the same Ent Lib config but only the console application is capable to log into the Event Log. I tried everything with permissions but I don't know what exactly I am doing ó which services should have what. It does not work!

I read articles like this[URL] and I want to try to give the ASPNET account those permissions. I am using Windows 7 and I cannot find ASPNET user account. So where is it?

This is the config file which is automatically generated from Ent Lib utility and it works only on App.config, not on web.config:

Security :: How To Prevent New Users From Logging In Immediately / Account Approval

Jul 17, 2010

I am implementing strightforward membership provider. I do not want new users to be able to login without being approved.

I have tried the setting on the registration wizard called DisableCreatedUser="True" and this does not work.

I also set LoginCreatedUser to False, and the user still gets logged in.

If I look in the SQL membership table, 'IsApproved' is set to 0 for the account, but they can still login.

Web Forms :: Add Event Handler To User Control And Capture Event On Parent Page?

Apr 24, 2010

Using vb.net/asp.net 2005.

I have a page books.aspx that has a control named authors.ascx.

Inside the authors control there is a "select" button I want to add some kind of listener or event handler (not sure of the correct terminology) so on the parent page (books.aspx) I can respond to the "select" button being clicked.

I have to pass the authorID from the user control to the parent page.

In my authors.ascx control I just created this event:

[Code]....

Now I need to write the function for SelectAuthorBtnClick and I think add some kind of listener in the parent page to listen and handle the event.

Web Forms :: Firing Click Event On A User-control That Is Created From Another Event?

Mar 1, 2011

I have a gridview called gvResults. In the gvResults_RowEditing event I add a row below the one selected. In that new row, which spans all columns, I insert a user-control. There are two buttons and some textboxes in the user control.

My problem is that when I click one of the user-control buttons it never gets to the button event handler, I think because the user control is not recreated on the page postback. How can I have the user-control events fire before the parent page events fire?

I tried using an update panel, but I still get the parent posting back before the user-control events.

Logging From Framework Internals (Logging. On) - How To Turn On Logging

Jul 6, 2010

I'm debugging some unexpected behavior and while tracing in to the .NET framework I see a bunch of stuff like this:

if (Logging.On) {
Logging.PrintInfo(Logging.Web, this, SR.GetString(SR.net_log_n_certs_after_filtering, filteredCerts.Count));
...
}

But (as expected by default) the execution steps right over these. Is there some way to turn on the logging? Or is that just something that the framework developers can do while making special builds of the framework?

MVC :: Strongly Typed User Control On All Pages Based On Login Status And User Role

May 9, 2010

I want to display a menu (which will be strongly typed with it's own unique model) across all pages only if a user is logged in.What menu items are available depend on the user's role and also I'll need to hit the repository to get numbers like "x Messages", etc

Been scratching my head for a simple solution here. Don't want to create something that need changes all over the place. All my controllers derive from a BaseController, all my Models from BaseViewModel....probably where I'll be implementing functionality for this.
