Web Forms :: Dynamically Modify HTML Markup

Sep 22, 2010

I have a Master Page as well as a standard Web Form aspx file. What if I wanted to dynamically modify the complete HTML markup in an aspx file (perhaps based on a conditional statement - perhaps in a specific content place holder), how would I go about doing this? Sorry I'm coming from a PHP background so this is why I'm asking such a simple question.

SQL Reporting :: Using Or Removing HTML Markup

Feb 25, 2010

I have a field in my SQL database that contains HTML markup from the HTMLEditor control in the AjaxControlToolkit. When I use the Report Viewer and SQL Reporting Services to display this field in a report, the field is displayed using the tags. I would either like to hide the tags completely or render them so that they format the text appropriately, rather than the tags be displayed as a load of <p>, <br>, <strong> tags etc. I've searched around and tried out a few different articles but haven't yet had any success.

Html - Customizing Webforms Markup?

Sep 11, 2010

I'm a new comer to the asp.net world. I hear a lot about asp.net mvc and it's advantage over webforms about the ability to customize the markup and css. I also heard that asp.net is much easier to learn than asp.net mvc so I decided to go for asp.net and webforms. My question is: what's the level of customization a web developer/designer can get with webforms concerning the markup and css?

How To Read Web.config App Key Settings In HTML Markup

Oct 30, 2010

I have an ASP.NET site which uses a 3rd party activeX control. I have to pass a few parameters to the OBJECT tag in the HTML page. If i hardcode these parameters into the HTML everything works.

I would like to place the parameters in my web.config with app settings "key/value" pairs.

My problem is i cannot read the app key setting in the HTML markup to succesfully pass them in as parameters. I can read them fine from server side code behind.

What's the correct way to read these settings in the client side HTML markup ?

How To Dynamically Modify Several Controls On A Page

Jan 5, 2010

I'm thinking there has to be an efficient and OO way to do this.

I have several textboxes on a data entry page. When I need to make a new entry, I have to clear the text field before making new entries and this has to be done for quite a number of textboxes and across several pages.

Is there a way to use the FindControl method to locate all textboxes on a page and clear their textfields probably using a loop of some sorts?

How To Modify Raw HTML Of Page On PreRender

May 13, 2010

I want to access the raw HTML code that my ASP.NET System.Web.UI.Page is about to render.

How can i do that? Is there a property or method like System.Web.UI.Page.HTML or something like that.

I know I could loop through the Controls List of the page and get access to all the Literal Controls etc, but I was wondering if there's a direct property or method that can return me the raw html, which I can modify just before rendering the page.

Dynamically Modify Role Permissions And Also Generate The Appropriate Sitemap / Menus?

Jun 28, 2010

I'm doing some research on security and sitemaps in ASP.net and am unfortunately running short on time. I have not worked too much with ASP.net security so I'm not completely sure if I'm heading in the right direction.

Here is my problem:

I have a public website (i.e. on the internet) that will allow any user to sign up to. The website will be developed using ASP.net webforms. These users may create other users and assign these users different roles.

Different roles have different restrictions and the menu is displayed appropriately. For example, a user acting as an administrator can see all menu options. Whereas a limited user will only see some of these menu items.

There needs to be the ability for users on our end to modify what pages certain roles can access. For example, if Role1 can do task X, we would like to be able at some point modify Role1 to no longer do task X. This would be done using an application built in-house.

User types (roles) are to be saved in the database. User permissions (what pages each type can have access to) are also to be saved saved in the database.

Here is something I am thinking of doing:

Implement the authorization and authentication set up built in to ASP.net using the web.config fileUse Sitemaps to dynamically create menus/breadcrumbs from the database

I believe it is possible to do the second one using custom providers (please correct me if I'm wrong). But I am not entirely sure if it's possible to configure the web.config file dynamically.

I suppose this is really more of a yes/no answer but I would just like to make sure I'm not going in the wrong direction. I will be using VS2008 and .net 3.5 framework.

C# - To Intercept And Modify The Html Output Stream In .net, To Combine The Javascript?

Jan 5, 2011

Is there some way to intercept the HTML output stream in asp.net and make modifications? Eg using httpmodules or something? I know this is possible using java servlets and assume there must be an elegant way to do this with asp.net.

My purpose is to combine the many javascript files into one composite script which has been minified/packed, to make the page load faster.Eg, if my page normally outputs the following in the page head:

<script type="text/javascript" src="/scripts/blah.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="/scripts/yada.js"></script>

I want to replace that with the following:

<script type="text/javascript" src="/scripts/all.js"></script>
(also i realise i'll have to create all.js somehow).

Generating Control Markup Based On A Dynamically Generated Control?

Dec 9, 2010

What I'm trying to do is take an instance of a control, and figure out what the markup would look like based on the property values set in the code behind. We've built a web-based web form designer. At the end of the design process we save the markup. For simple controls with supported types, generating the markup was easy. For complex controls with nested properties or unsupported types, we're faced with creating a custom markup generator for each custom control. I was hoping to find info out there that would jump start this development effort.

In simple terms, I have this:

Dim Ctl as Control = CType(Asm.CreateInstance("MyNameSpace.MyControl"), Control)
Ctl.Name = "Name of my control"

And I want to end up with this:

<cc1:MyControl ID="MyControl1" runat="server" Name="Name of my control" />

Is It Possible To Use Validation Controls When I Need To Modify HTML When Validation Fails

Mar 16, 2011

Let's say that I have the following HTML for a text box on an ASP.NET page:

<div class="myClass">
<asp:TextBox ID="txtMyTextBox" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
</div>

It is easy enough to add a required field validator to this page like this.

<asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="valMyTextBox" runat="server" ControlToValidate="txtMyTextBox" ErrorMessage="My Text Box is required."></asp:RequiredFieldValidator>

But I need to modify the HTML slightly if this text box fails validation. I need to add a CSS class to the DIV. So if the user leaves this field blank I need the HTML to look like this:

<div class="myClass error">
<asp:TextBox ID="txtMyTextBox" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
</div>

Is this possible? I can't figure out if there is a way to write code behind that only fires if this particular validator control fails validation or something. I know I can write code that runs when the entire page is not valid. But I just want this code to run when this validator returns invalid. Hope this makes sense.
