Web Forms :: Original Text Box Value Being Sent On Postback Rather Than New Value?

Dec 9, 2010

I have a textbox and a button. On page load I select one column from one row and put its value in the textbox. I have a button click method that updates the same column/row with the new value in the same textbox.

The problem i'm having is that when I clear the text in the text box, type in new data and hit submit the new text value is not being saved, it uses the old one.

I put a breakpoint at the end of my button click method and it appears that asp.net is sending the old value of the textbox rather than the new one I put in. I'm totally stumped.

Web Forms :: How To Reset All The Panel To Its Original Status After Several PostBack

May 19, 2010

I have a panel that users are filling blanks in it.

In this process, several post back will be fired and controls like labels, dropdownlists will change their values, nested panels will change their visible.

Now I wish to know how I can reset these changes when user submit the form.

protected void btnSubmit_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
//there is no such a method of Panel

As a clarification, I still need to use some of the value in the btnSubmit_Click and display some submit info based on these values. So I *cannot* use Response.Redirect().

I just wrote an application level err handler for my website. The errors are saved in sql server. Now I download the info back into a datagrid and on the selectedrow changed I put the stacktrace and other big fields in textboxes like so :

However the text is now formatted like this :

txtSearchClient = ""

instead of :

txtSearchClient = "";

I've confirmed that the text is in the right format in SQL server but I cna't find a way to deencode it.

MVC :: Html.TextArea - Extra Line Break In The TextArea, Just Above The Original Text?

Jul 15, 2010

I'm working with an MVC1.0 web app and I've found a bit of an odd anomaly.

I have a search box on the first page (normal text box) and the input from this is passed through to the ViewData and on to the second page.

On the second page, I render a TextArea with this search input text from the ViewData.

The problem is, there is an extra line break in the TextArea, just above the original text.

Stranger still is that if I now submit this page and the view is reloaded (after validation fails) - the original string of text has been trimmed and has no line breaks, but the TextArea now has 2 line breaks above the original text.

This can be repeated - every time the page reloads it has another line break.

It's driving me insane - does anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

FYI, you can check it out yourself - on your mobile phone, browse to [URL], punch something in the search box and hit search. You'll notice one line break added the first time the page loads. Then just hit "Find Best Offer" without entering a budget or selecting a category, and you'll see what I mean about the additional line breaks.

Regex Validation On A Text Box Locks-up Text Box On Postback?

Nov 10, 2010

I have a web application (done in ASP/C#) that has regex validation on a text box. Initially the regex works perfectly fine. But then I also provide a button click event (clear) that allows the user the clear text box and change their input for a new query. At this point (page post back) the regex takes control and maintains control of the text box so a new query can't be run. Can anyone tell me what to do so that the regex doesn't fire on page postback and allows new input for validation?

Web Forms :: How To Keep Button Text Value On Postback

Jan 25, 2010

I have a button that has an server side event onclick that when triggerd adds javascript code to the onclick event and changes the text value.

On the second click only the javascript code is triggered who changes the text value of the button and sets the client side onclick event to null, while resoponding wiht an return false to counter the postback.

On a real postback of my page the button text value is set back to the latest value given by server side code, it does not keeps its properties set by the javascript client code.

I think this is normal as the button is not posted back or something like that. How could I keep its client side changed properties and let the server side know about it ? Can I modify the viewstate or something similar .... ?

Client side code:

Web Forms :: Universal Text Filter For Postback?

I'm creating a small, private social networking site. I wanted to add 'emoticons' by filtering text such as and replacing it with an image tag. That's easy enough with stringname.Replace() but what i'm wondering is, is there a way to add some sort of a 'filter' that will automatically do that replacement for me on ANY string post back so i don't have to add the replace code to every page?

Web Forms :: How To Hide The Original Address

Apr 18, 2010

I need a technique to hide the real original url when I click a link

I mean for i.e. [URL]

I need it like this [URL] in the address bar

That's to hide the physical folder structure

and also if there is some parameters like this: [URL]

I need it to be also the main page like this : [URL]

Over all I need the user see only the address of the main page.

I did my best to solve this by trying the following:

Using iframe with "0" border but there is a problem with the height, the frame trim the bottom of the pageUsing ReWrite URL technique but it needs me to write all the physical paths and the replacement of each one, and you know that there are 10s or 100s of links in MOH website.

I need a dynamic technique that take in consideration passing the parameters between pages and post back event also.

C# - How To Access Control Text On Postback

Mar 2, 2011

I'm making a site and throughout the site I haven't been very consistent with the way I get user input on postbacks. For example, say in a button event that takes two strings retrieved from textboxes and adds them together and outputs the string sum in a label:

protected void btnCalculate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
string text1 = textBox1.Text; //one way
string text2 = Request["textBox2"]; //the other way
lblSum.Text = text1+text2;

I imagine you would want to use Request[""] if the data has been posted to a new page, but for this situation, is one way preferred over another, and why?

Web Forms :: To Return The Popup In It's Original Size?

Mar 24, 2010

I'm using return url to restore a users site position after a session times out. This works fine. However if the user happens to have a popup open when a session times out, it returns the user to the popup screen (correctly) but the popup now takes up the entire screen. Is there a way to return the popup in it's original size or another way to check for popups, perhaps using the sitemap?

Web Forms :: Request.QueryString Doesn't Get The Original Value?

Jan 28, 2011

When I pass some values like a++, c++, f+, as a parameter value in the url to an aspx page, I don't get the exact value in the aspx.cs page by Request.QueryString function. This problem is only with some special characters like +, _ , - etc.

Consider this parameter string in the url : CourseName=c++&kval=0.7120968615801844&dval=1296217545373

Then when I trying to get the CourseName parameter value in the aspx.cs page using

JavaScript - Set Focus To End Of Text In Textbox After Postback?

Oct 27, 2010

I've got a simple ASP.Net form with txtBox and btn.

User click btn, which adds text to an ASP:TextBox in a postback (its adding a known "starter text".

After the postback I'd like the focus to be set to the end of the text in the textbox.

If I call Page.SetFocus(...) or txtBox.Focus() then the txtBox gets focus, but at the beginning of the text - which means if the user starts typing, they'll be in the wrong place.

I've tried the following in the textbox:

onfocus="alert('focus');this.value = this.value;"

but the "alert" only appears the first two times? Then nothing?

Inner Image And Text Of Asp:LinkButton Disappears After Postback

Apr 4, 2011

I have a link button:

<asp:LinkButton ID="LinkButtonPrint" runat="server" OnClick="OnPrint_Click">
<img src="img/print-icon.png" alt="" />
<asp:Literal runat="server" Text="<%$ Resources:PrintPage %>" />

In code behind I add an onclick handler in Page_Load like this:

LinkButtonPrint.Attributes["onclick"] = "StartLoadTracking(this, '" + GetLocalResourceObject("Loading") + "')";

The rendered HTML is like this:

<a href="javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$LinkButtonPrint','')"
id="ctl00_LinkButtonPrint" onclick="StartLoadTracking(this, 'Loading...');">
<img alt="" src="img/print-icon.png">Print page

If I click this button it is working OK (it will respond with a PFD file so no HTML is sent back to the browser), but if I click another button on the page (which makes a full postback) the LinkButtonPrint will not have the inner content, it will be rendered like this:

<a href="javascript:__doPostBack('ctl00$LinkButtonPrint','')"
id="ctl00_LinkButtonPrint" onclick="StartLoadTracking(this, 'Loading...');"></a>
If I remove the LinkButtonPrint.Attributes["onclick"] = ... line from Page_Load everything works fine (except my js function is not called, but that is normal).

What am I missing here?

This is duplicate of asp.net Link button image not visible after postback.

On my webpage I am loading 30 .jpg Images and a .SWF(Flashfile) that takes 4 MB. The problem is that when the Page is loading in, this 4 MB flashfile is loading in together with the images wich makes it to take very long time.

What I would need to do, is to load the webpage with all its images First and when the webpage is loaded, now I will need to load this 4 MB flashfile in the background. When this file is loaded to memory, I will start playing that in a loop in this Flashcontrol that I have.

How is a scenario like this possible to do? I struggled with it before but couldn“t solve it.

Forms Data Controls :: Retrieve An Item In Its Original Type?

May 22, 2010

I've been looking all afternoon, but the best I've been able to do when the user selects a row is to get at the item with each field in Text format.I would like, ideally, to be able to get at the row in its original MyDataType that I bound. I'm using an ObjectDataSource, and the grid (a RadGrid in this case, but its much the same deal as gridview) know the type not only of the rows by also of each and every column.I'm stymied that I'm stuck in the days of error-prone referencing columns by their name. Instead of:

I'd much rather be doing something like

But for the life of me I can't figure out if its even possible. The grid is retaining viewstate, so it still has all of the data.

Forms Data Controls :: Clicking Edit Changes GridView Back To Original Query?

May 28, 2010

I have a gridview that I have bound to a sqldatasource. However I have the gridview changing data shown per a drop down list and textbox so I can choose how I am searching.

My code includes changing the select command of the data source and rebinding the gridview.

My issue is that if I implement the edit button and click edit the grid view seems to resort back to the original select command that was entered when I created the datasource.

Is there any way to get the gridview to do what I want it to?

Forms Data Controls :: DetailsView: DropDownList Keeps Getting Original Values (user Selection Is Ignored)

Feb 17, 2011

I have EntityDataSource for DetailsView which is in Edit mode by default (showin Update, Cancel link buttons).

This datasource also has foreign key called PecID. If I change the value in textbox bound to PecID, it works fine.
Entering IDs is not very user friendly, so I add dropdownlist and new datasource.

When I select new value from dropDownList and press update the DropDownList's selection is restored to original (previous) value.
Other values in textboxes are saved as expected.

After few hours of trying to figure out what is going on, I got lucky. I figure out that it is important the order of TextBox and DropDownList in field template.

This is the working order (textbox before DropDownList)

This one doesn't work [Code]....
