Web Forms :: Trying To Use Multiple Sitemaps With Master Pages - Default Sitemap Always Used
Jun 16, 2010
I have two Master Pages, each with a SiteMapPath control that uses a separate sitemap assigned in markup via the SiteMapFile attribute. Both sitemap files are defined as providers in web.config, and sitemap "A" is set as default. My master pages are dynamically assigned to common content pages (in the Page_PreInit event).

I have a Global.master and I have Menu1.master and Menu2.master which I derive from the Global.master.
I am trying to have Menu1.master to load menu1 and have Menu2.master to load menu2.
So I have 2 sitemaps but I am not sure how I can point the SiteMapDataSource from each master page to use the proper .sitemap files.

I've got a custom menu in the master page, that hides items according to different conditions (nothing to do with roles and perms). Is in the MasterPage.master file where i'm trying to hide them, e.g.:
[Code]....
The function isNormalMode() is defined in the code behind file MasterPage.master.cs, and everything is working properly in the page Default.aspx, but in the rest of the pages it doesn't execute the function at any time, so the item always remain visible.

I am having some trouble adding an extra sitemap to my website. I have the main sitemap for the general navigation of the whole site, but would like to add a new sitemap for the navigation in the community area once people have logged in.
In the web config file I have tried both:
<siteMap defaultProvider="AspNetXmlSiteMapProvider">
<providers>
<add siteMapFile="Community.sitemap" name="CommunitySiteMapProvider"
type="System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider" />
</providers>
</siteMap>
[Code]....
However the menu that shows is the default Web.sitemap

I've got a page Default.aspx, it was inherited from class MyBasePage
like this
public partial class _Default : MyBasePage, ICallbackEventHandler
{
}
also it has a master page
<%@ Page Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" EnableEventValidation="false" MasterPageFile="~/Master/MyMaster.master" CodeFile="Default.aspx.cs" Inherits="_Default" %>
this master page also has a master
<%@ Master Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Master/Base.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="MyMaster.cs" Inherits="MyMaster" %>
All works ok, but then i discovered that
Page_Load in Default.aspx is called two times, and both from method OnLoad in MyBasePage
protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e)
{
base.OnLoad(e);
}
base.OnLoad(e) calls Page_Load.
I've got a site with such a structure of master pages and basepage, but it works ok, method page_load is called only once.
So why would in the second site PAge_Load be called twice?

I've been having some production runtime errors that I don't fully understand. This has happened to us on a couple different ASP.NET 4.0 Web Sites (shudders - yes, I know - we're porting it to MVC but that's taking some time).
First of all, we have never been able to reproduce this issue in development/QA environments. Secondly, upon deployment, the issue seems to be non-existent. Sometimes the issue manifests within a day or two of deployment and other times the deployment will be live for a month without it manifesting at all. However, once it manifests, then ANY page viewed under the web site causes the error. Lastly, this problem seemed to only come up once we migrated to .NET 4.0. We started at 2.0, a year ago upped to 3.5, and recently upped to 4.0 with this solution and most child projects.
The error:
Could not find the sitemap node with URL '~/Default.aspx'.
A simplified version of our sitemap (with some names changed and uninteresting nodes removed) is as follows:
<siteMap xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/AspNet/SiteMap-File-1.0">
<siteMapNode roles="*" title="EG">
<siteMapNode url="~/../SM/Default.aspx" title="Welcome" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SD/Default.aspx" title="SD" description="" roles="*" />
<siteMapNode url="~/../SMD/Default.aspx" title="SMD" description="" roles="*" />
[code]...
I have confirmed in all of the SiteMaps that there is a node with url="~/Default.aspx" with roles="*" (which includes public/anonymous access), so I am very confused as to why this problem occurs.
SiteMap does not have a node for Default.aspx. All of them do. SiteMap's Default.aspx node is not accessible for security reasons to the current user/role. They're all accessible to anonymous users and this problem even exists for super admin users. Passed-in URL contains querystrings (Default.aspx?abcd). I don't know if this is a problem (I sure would hope not) but once the problem manifests itself, I can handwrite the URL with no querystrings and the problem still exists.
SiteMap changes. It doesn't Service's permissions to the sitemap file. The sitemap works perfectly fine after a deployment, so unless permissions are changed in a way that IISRESET fixes, then this is not an issue. The worker process becomes globally corrupt. I don't think so. We have ~12 web sites all in the same app pool and the problem always stays confined within a single web site. Also, we have yet to have this happen to more than a single web site at a time although it has manifested itself in 4 different ones so far.

i have created a template master page
My web application is so large so i break it 2-3 dlls like 1 DLL for Acc-section-Forms.DLL other is Acc-Section-Reports.DLL and so on all these app are using same master page
but when i run my application and open any form it give me error
The type 'Tempelates.invGeneral' is ambiguous: it could come from assembly 'E:wwwrootASP.NETaccountsinAcc-section-Forms.DLL' or from assembly 'E:wwwrootASP.NETaccountsinAcc-Section-Reports.DLL'. specify the assembly explicitly in the type name.
Line 3: <%@ Master Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="masterInvGen.master.cs"
Line 4: Inherits="Tempelates.invGeneral" %> i know that i can create the clone of master page but it does not full fill my requirement bcs in that case if i need to do any change in any master file i have to apply that changes to all my clone master files too which is not a good way
is there any way that i create a master page with same name which can be used in all other app as well w

I have atleast 10 websites that have different css,html,javasacripts and webconfig. But the same code behind files.With this design everything is hard to maintain. So I decided to work on it and I started moving all the queries in the code beghind file to stored procedures. Since every website uses the same database.
What I have decided is to make use of themes and multiple master pages? IS this the best way to go about it?
Also lets say I have two templates. There is site A and site B. both using different templates. And have pages Home About Us and Contact.
Now would I be creating three different masterpages? for each template so 6 in total? ( since none of the templates are supposed to look the same)
or Should I just create two masterpages? if so how would I manage the html of the page so it looks different?

I've got a custom menu navigation built from a web.sitemap file, the first line of this would be something like:
SiteMapNodeCollection topLevelNodes = SiteMap.RootNode.ChildNodes;
However, now I want to be able to create multiple web.sitemap files, and then programmatically determine which web.sitemap file to use, but I can't seem to find out how to do this. I'm assuming I could either create one custom SiteMapProvider that can perform the logic to determine which web.sitemap file to load, or I have multiple providers, each one with the SiteMapFile property set to a specific *.sitemap file, and then switch providers programmatically before I access SiteMap.RootNode.

I have 2 master pages with same (href) links on top of the page. Now these links load on the same master page when clicked on (by requirement). The problem is both these master pages have same links, so basically the same page shall be loaded in the master page.Now what i need is when the person is on Master Page 1 and clicks on the link it should load in the same page. Whereas if the user is on Master Page 2 and clicks on the same link, i should be able to change the master page from 1 to 2 and load that in Master Page 2. Something like DirectCast.

I've just finished and published my most recent version of
[URL]
but when I try to validate the website using http://validator.w3.org it is giving me few errors.
I noticed that I have multiple <title> tags in my pages and reason for that is because I am using master pages. What happened is my master pages are using <head> tag and <title> tag inside, then default page will have <asp:content ID="Content2" runat="server" contentplaceholderid="head"> and here I'll have another <title> tag.
The question is obviously I am having duplicate <title> tags across my entire website. Which <title> tags should I remove, the one in <head> tag of my master page, or the one on every other page such as one specified in default.aspx?
I would think that master page should not have the title and any other meta tags such as <meta name = "keywoards", "description" etc since I am repeating it in all other pages but is my thinking correct?

Is there a way to specify a default area for any content specified in a master page?
I have a global master page and a bunch of user controls (.ascx) with action links defined without regard for 'areas' - is there a way to specify the default area to use when rendering action links and the like?
The problem occurs when navigating to an area; all the unspecified master page links do not link back to the default area (in my case the root). I.e.,Html.ActionLink("Home", "Index", "Home") renders as "/area/home/index" rather than "/home/index". I'd like this to work for all the links defined in the master page file without needing to specifyHtml.ActionLink("Home", "Index", "Home"new { area = "" }

However, I'm not sure how to set this up interms of c# code with regards to Using a Base Class and then having a masterpage applied to my aspx pages that i create.
