Web Forms :: Updating Data Automatically Using Web Service?
Apr 15, 2010
I am creating a web app with sql server 05 and visual studio express 08. There is always live data inserted into my sql tables throughout the day infrequently.
I want to create a web page that will show the data in graphs etc. I can currently show the data present in the database on the web page. HOWEVER what i do not know is how to update the page (graphs) with the NEW DATA that has been inserted into the tables.
I guess I will have to use ajax to change the data shown on the web page automatically. I will also need somesort of triggers to tell when new data has arrived.
I have an access database where when the record is updated I would like to automatically check a box and update the date to the current date in an Access 2002-2003 database. I've tried this for several days without any resolution and can't find anything that works on the net. ...I'm new at this.
how do I update a field from code like inserting a date. i have something like below. i want to insert the date when the record is updated or edited, but it does not work what is the correct way to do this in mvc
Basically we have a web service that the client uses to get all sorts of information, works well. Now I would like the client to call our web service, and for us to update our database based on the information getting passed (just a bool, and time).This will be used to determine what stage the client is at (they do QA). Is this possible?
I have an Asp.net page which requires certain sections to be partially updated automatically at an interval of 5 seconds. I was planning to use the good old Timer control with the AJAX Update Panel for this purpose, but after a bit of reading on this control i found out that it may have some problems especially if,
1) The time difference between the async event performed ( 4 seconds ) by the update panel and the Timer's tick interval ( which is 5 seconds ) are quite small, the update panel will be held up in the async operation all the time.
2) Also, the fact that timer control doesn't work very well with Firefox.
I found some code on the web and it threw me off. Look at the code below. You will notice only when the Hits == 1, does the cache get added. After that, the cache object isn't updated. It begs the question, does the object when updated, update the cache as well automatically? The answer here would make me remove some code in some of my classes.
I'm trying to insert a new EF object containing a reference to a related table via foreign key, and cannot get the reference stored in the new object. I have two tables in a SQL Server 2008 Database:
Component Templates PartGroups
with a Foreign Key linking them thus: ComponentTemplates:ID [0..1<->*] PartGroups:ComponentTemplateID
I have imported these tables into a .NET web application project .edmx file (using a new ADO.NET Entity Data Model), and then created a Data Service which I then reference in a Silverlight 3.0 project. The objects are available as expected in the data context called by my Silverlight app and load correctly. Now, when I try to save a reference of ComponentTemplate into a newly created PartGroup, the PartGroup object is created in the database, but the value of ComponentTemplateID in the newly created table record is NULL.
(Note that _ctCtrl.ComponentTemplate is a confirmed non-NULL object reference to the parent object on which PartGroup is a child)
I am trying to update client side controls asynchronously with information from a service.
The service I am using has a callback delegate that points to the users web page (server side)
I would like to update information on the page that is initiated by another users also consuming the same service. exactly like a chatroom.
I am trying to use an update panel, and call updatepanel.update() (server side) once I recieve the information from the service. basically: how do I partially update control data from the server side so that client side can see it.
I have a webservice - called MyCompany.WebService1
I reference this using a web reference in my ASP.net web application.
Theres a method called "GetDeal" in this web service, that returns a "Deal" Object.
The deal object currently looks (for example) like this:
This class is in a different assembly: MyCompany.Model
The web service references this assembly.
In my web app, I can call the GetDeal method. This returns Service1.Deal (service1 is just the name of the web reference)
I can access both properties above. I have now changed the Deal class, and added a couple more properties.
However, I can't see these new properties in my web application. I've updated the web service in the web application. I rebuilt the web service several times, tried removing the MyCompany.Model reference and re-addding it etc...
I can't figure out what has changed... This was working - I have changed the model before, and it's updated the reference correctly...
i have a web application with sql server 2008 i wanna know if its possible to load the data automatically after its been inserted to DB..i have a alerts table which store message and user name to which the alert is to be send i wanna display the alert msg to user after it has been inserted...
There is a field called school which is a dropdown menu, I manually edit items and made it like these: select school, name of 6 elementaries and 2 middle schools, and a high school.I have another field called grade level, which is a drop down menu too, i manually entered the grade items for it: select grade, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3......12.
I would like after user selects a school in the drop down menu, the field called grade level dropdown box' data source will be updated according to school. For example, if it is a middle school selected, the data source of grade level will be updated to 6, 7 8 grade, if it is elementary the grade will be updated to 1, 2, 3, 4 5 etc. In this way later, when user goes to select grade it will show appropriate grade level lists according to schools.
I have a gridview which contains asp.net textboxes. The user uses a barcode scanner which scans barcodes into the textboxes.
What I would like is to move to the next textbox after an item has been scanned in i.e. automatic tabbing to the next textbox.
Does anyone have any advise how I can do this?
What I have noticed is that when the user scans an item, the page does a full page postback even though the grid is in an update panel. And after the postback, the focus on the textbox just scanned in has been lost.
I have a web page into which a user control is loaded. This user control contains a ListView. In the Page_Load event handler of the user control I have this code:
listView1.DataSource = TaskList; // Note: "TaskList" is a data table listView1.DataBind();
It should be noted that the TaskList data table is actually instantiated in the web page. The user control then obtains a reference to it.
Everything described to this point works fine. Where I'm running into trouble is when I add a new row to TaskList. I had *thought* that the ListView control was dynamically connected to the data table, such that when I altered the contents of the data table in any way, that the changes would be automatically reflected in the ListView.
I want to automatically select the first row of Gridview after an autopostback. Here is the scenario. I have a dropdownlist that populates Gridview. On Gridview I have the option to select a record to view more information. However, after the user selects an option from the dropdownlist I want the first record in Gridview to be selected and shown in Detailsview.
I have a need for a GridView (that is initially hidden) to skip the binding to the associated SqlDataSource until the user requests a certain condition. At that point, I want to modify the SelectCommand and bind the Gridview.
I am unable to find an attribute that essentially says "don't bind this". What am I missing?
I have an asp.net page with a gridview control on it but I want to allow the user to also be able to update the selected row from a series of textboxes. I simply need the code for a button click event to do this.
button is called button1 textbox is called textbox1 gridview control is named gridview1 record to be modified is in 3rd column called PlayerName
The row to be edited will always be the only record shown and will always be selected by code I've already written. I will also need to know if the record must be set to edit mode to make the button click code work.
I'm just wondering if anyone has come across a good, easy method for updating a SQL Server 2000 DB table using the edit feature in GridView. The catch here is that I need it to encrypt, send to database, then decrypt when the page calls it to be displayed. I have successfully implemented an insert method using FormView with encryption. For some reason, I just can't seem to figure out the edit/update.
I am making a message module in asp.net with database of sql. i have made a gridview and enabled selecting. and a form view is synchorised with grid view on selecting. i am writing update sql but could not get a way to take data on Gridview or Formview to compare the record in sql database.
I have a gridview based on a sqldatasource that has some colums from which two colums showing the data of two fields: field1 and field2. field1 is an ID which should not be updated and therefore it is readonly=true. The sql-query from the sqldatasource is:
SelectCommand="SELECT field1, field2 from anyView"
What I want is, that when a row is updated, then the value from field1 should be copied to field2 The update-query is:
UpdateCommand="UPDATE myTable SET field2=@field2 WHERE field1=@field1"
My idea was, that the @field2 paramter gets the value from the query string out of field1:
But this does not work. Is there an easy way to copy the data from field1 to field2 when updating the row? In addition, is this possible, even if field2 ist not shown in the gridview (i.e. field2 is selected in the query but is not a field in the gridview but should be updated with value of field1).
I have a web page with a gridview & formview (master/detail relationship) combo. On page load the gridview shows all records from a SQL table. On my page I have a button that when clicked shows the formview in Insert mode to allow users to add a new record to the data. I have also added a column to my gridview that has a link. When a user clicks this link it hides the gridview and shows the formview in edit mode with the detail from the record selected from the gridview.
In my formview I am using a listbox control to allow users to select multiple values. The choices in the listbox are populated by a SQL data table. I have successfully written code to post the selected listbox values to my SQL data field during Insert. When the user selects a record to edit I have code in the databound event to select values in the listbox from the choices based on the value in the sql data field. This works as well. My problem is that I cannot figure out the correct code to update my SqL data when a user is editing the record and makes changes to the selected listbox value. I have included my design code for my listbox in my formview edittemplate and also my behind code that I have attempted.
