Web Forms :: Use String Variable Before Assigning Value
Aug 15, 2010
I have a page the retieves transaction data from PayPal. The data is retrieved as a string of text. I need to break down the string and save parts of it to my database. I have justed a plain string in my test to see if my code works. I have converted some working VB code into C# but I am getting the errors when trying to Response.Write the different parts. The Error message says that I am trying to use the string variable before I have assigned a value to it.
1. Assigning text of a few lables to corresponding variables. 2. Taking/posting these variables to server and process them. 3. Print the outcome in a message.
An example would be: Take lable1 as variable x. Take lable2 as variable y. then process as z=x+y. and print z on the page.
I get the error 'Input string was not in correct format' currentID is an integer var. When I hover over the GridView_ABC.DataKeys[0].Value it is """, it should be an integer.
trying to get something to work, which I think should be extremely easy.
I'm grabbing a value from my database with a repeater, and want to assign the value to a variable that I can parse and then send into javascript. 'videofile' is the variable from the database, and I want to assign the value to 'vidfile', parse it, and then inject into javascript:
Generally I want to pass string result of some control to other control or htm tag like without using specific classes in my ASPX page, only my control and what asp gives:
but this doesnt work - href is not executed, server treats it literally <MyControls:MyContr Param="Tech"/> so I would like to know it is possible to do it like in JSP pages:
- pass <MyControls:MyContr Param="Tech"/> to some variable $myVariable - pass $myVariable to href like <a href="$myVariable" ?
I'm looking at a routine that returns a variable name and value in two fields from a table, the intent is to then assign the value to the correct variable.
I have a stored proc. that returns the USL & LSL values for each of the 8 different Metrics. say, Defect Density (Upper Specification Limit) USL = 0.30 & Defect Density (Lower Specification Limit_ LSL = 0.05). Simillarly for 8 different Metrics. Why I need these Spec. Limits ?...Because I want o compare my project's Metrics Value displayed in the Grid View with the corresponding USL & LSL value of the same Metrics. IF Metrics Value is outside of USL & LSL Then I want to Mark the Metrics in Red Color.
1. STORED PROC "Get_Spec_Limits" Does Not Return Anything 2. Error : Object Reference Not set to an Instance of an Object, in the following "OnRowDataBound' Event

I've been successful in creating GridView controls programically using c#. I'd like to take advantage of using the clientmode=predicatable but I can't resolve setting the ClientIDRowSuffix value. Below is a code snippet:
public void GenerateView(int fileno, string GridType, GridView dataView) { object ctrl = FindControl("pnlForm"); System.Web.UI.WebControls.Panel ctrlPanel = (System.Web.UI.WebControls.Panel)ctrl; dataView.Width = 640; dataView.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Black; dataView.BackColor = System.Drawing.Color.Beige; dataView.AutoGenerateColumns = false; dataView.Caption = "<B> indicate your selection by typing Add of Delete in the Action box below</B>"; //Resulted in the following error // Cannot implicitly convert type 'string' to 'string[] // dataView.ClientIDRowSuffix = "CTR_SEQ"; // I also tried casting it // CS0030: Cannot convert type 'string' to 'string[]'...........................................
The problem is that when the user clicks on the cell but not the actual content of the cell, the script doesn't trigger because it's not linked to the whole cell. So I'm writing a small script to extract the link and assign its value to a click event handler for each cell. This is what I have so far:
$('.MyLink').each(function () { var TheLink = $(this).attr('href'); var CellContent = $(this).html(); // alert(CellContent); var LinkExtract = TheLink.split(":"); //alert(LinkExtract[1]); var PagerCell = $(this).parent(); $(PagerCell).click(function () { LinkExtract[1]; }); //problem here $(PagerCell).html(''); $(PagerCell).html(CellContent); });
Both alerts return the expected content. However, the click event doesn't work.
I got this check box on my page..if I need to assign these two values of CommandArgument in CssClass attribute ie <%# Eval("UserID") %> and <%# Eval("IsB") %> to two strings in my code behind..How do i do this?
protected void chk1_OnCheckChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { string s1 = "Need the first value from Command argument here"; string s2 = "Need the second value from Command argument here"; }
how do i fetch those command argument values passed in CssClass attribute of checkbox?
Newb question: what is the standard practice for assigning roles to newly signed-on members. Is it usually manual or is there a way of automatically assigning roles. Being completely new to this, I am confronted by the issue of my site having three different roles that new members could fall into, but am unsure about how to assign each a role. I can't imagine having to go through the process manually if I have thousands of members.

I need to convert a string to http url.The way i have to do this is--I have to retriew a value from database and convert it into a sharable http url in Asp.net C#.
I have a column in a table within my SQL database that is specified as a time variable. Not DateTime or Date, but just Time. So, I need to know how to convert a text string into the format that would be accepted for entry in the Time column of a table in SQL. I know how to convert dates, but not time.
I have a label "lbl1" that I am trying to locate in a content page from the Master page. I want to do it dynamically so I am trying to pass the name of the control (which in this case is lbl1) through as a parameter. I don't get an error, it just doesn't work. If I do an alert to see what the string "temp" looks like, it is correct, but iit seems as if Javascript ignores it. I believe it has something to do with the '<%= not being interpreted correctly by the browser I'm sure it is a simple solution, but I can't figure it out!
I have a gridview inside a user control bind to an object datasource. Now I want to bind the object datasource with a parameter from parent page. For this purpose I defined a public property in user control but how do I pass it with object datasource? I am calling from parent page like myusercontrol.parameter=querystring["id"]; How to bind object datasource with my parameter?
I have a page with some datasources in it. I am doing reenginering of the page itself and would like to split some parts of the page in several user controls. In my code I have an ObjectDataSource object with the following params
This piece of code automatically bind the hidden field "txtAlbumId" to the datasource. In my revision this datasource should be moved to a user control. What is the best way to handle a scenario like this?

I just like to know how to pass a parameter to the datasource of my dllItemCodeFooter and dllItemCodeEdit Drowndownlist which calls my getItemCodeList(decimal categoryID) method in the code behind. The value of the parameter will be seletectedValue of the first dropdownlist ddlCategoryFooter or ddlCategoryEdit).I know it could be done in code behind, but i prefer to bind my datasource in asp page. I want to achieve something like this DataSource='<%# getItemCodeList(ddlCategoryEdit.Seletected)%>'
I have developed the below web page which has an asp.net 3.5 listview control as it's frontend and an sql server db as it's backend.
[URL]
The first row on the web page is the inserting row. What I am hoping to achieve is that when the user enters their appropriate data they click the "Next" button to assign this dataset with it's own identity ID (customer_id) value within my database (this works perfectly), at the same time on the fly I want to use this customer_id as a query string variable to populate a child page (customerTrades.aspx) in order to pin further data to this identity. Currently I am attempting to use the below code within the iteminserted event of my listview control but I receive the error: "object reference not set to the instance of an object"??
Is this because the child page cannot find the customer_id variable being passed through the query string? Because it's not actually created yet? Am I using the wrong listview event? How can I achieve what I am looking for?
I must also mention that I'm using a linqdatasource to insert my data on runtime into my database. However, I am using the listview iteminserting event to insert my frontend dropdownlist selected values, code below:
