View 10 RepliesIn my ASP.NET WebForms application, I have a WebForm that contains an UpdatePanel and multiple views used for a wizard like interface. At the end of the wizard, the user has an option of moving to another page by clicking a button. This new web page needs about 5 values from controls in the previous page.What is the simplest way to do this? (Edit: ONLY using an HTTP POST with data - this is a requirement as I would use database/session otherwise)
View 4 RepliesYeah some people would say "Are you crazy using winforms controls inside asp forms"... and I think they are right. But I would say.. "I'm not the only one!!, take a look" [URL] So... Doing some kind of stuff like the previous link. I did the following:
using System;
using System.Threading;
using System.Windows.Forms;
namespace XXXX.aspx.Print
{
public partial class Drucker : System.Web.UI.Page
{
private ManualResetEvent mre = new ManualResetEvent(false);
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Threading();
}
private void Threading()
{
Thread t = new Thread(new ThreadStart(GoAhead));
t.SetApartmentState(ApartmentState.STA);
t.Start();
mre.WaitOne();
t.Abort();
}...................................
I guess it doesn't matter what technology I use, but I'm wanting to send an email to a specified email address then have some service either POST to a webpage or Insert into an open SQL database.

View 8 RepliesIf I develop a Windows User Control and host it inside an aspx web form, does the user's machine accessing the aspx page needs .NET Framework?
Does the Windows User Control hosted inside an aspx or web form requires any downloading of the control similar to an ActiveX control? Or Is it rendered like a HTML page?

I have a web application and I want to provide anonymous access to a couple of the web services in it so that we can access the web services from computers without a windows login on our network.
I've tried the stuff here Disable authentication on subfolder(s) of an ASP.NET app using windows authentication. I've done this:
[Code]....
These both "work" in that they allow access to the web service for anonymous users. However, it seems that IIS still sends an authorization challange because when I access the service from a browser I get a box to enter my username and password. If I hit cancel I get access to the page anonymously. However, some of our clients don't handle this well and just fail because of the 401 return code.
Is there a way to completely disable the windows authentication on that single location such that IIS will not try and establish a windows authentication?
We, at our company, are developing a file sharing application which will allow users to upload/download files. This application will be part of the suite of other applications. We will be adding a desktop client (windows app) which is an upload/download manager which will assist users to queue in multiple large files for upload/download. There are a couple of questions related to design for these applications:
1. We would like to implement Single Sign-On for all these applications (including desktop client). We would like users to login to web and once they do that, they can browse through applications without logging in again. We will be implementing a authetication service using WCF. The requirement is that we do not want to add authentication functionality to desktop client. So users will need to login to our web application. We can write cookie to user's machines and will work for web applications. Can the desktop client use the same cookie to autheticate itself? Or there are other ways we can achieve it? 2. We also do not want that when desktop client is uploading/downloading multiple files that its session is expired and the user need to re-authenticate through web. How can we achieve it? How does other Upload/Download Managers (like MS File Trasnfer Manager) work?
We've got an enterprise ASP.NET/VB.NET application that has multiple clients running on different versions (websites) of the product code.
I am trying to make a windows service that runs on our server to execute long running tasks. This service needs to run the correct version of code for each client and I had originally thought about calling a WCF Service that would be deployed as part of the web version.
The problem is that our IIS pools recycle each night and this opens up the possibility of a job getting aborted. A job that went over 24hrs would never get an opportunity to finish.
Our server is running Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0, .NET Framework 3.5, SQL Server 2005.
Is there a way to load assemblies dynamically to use without having to restart the service?
Edit: I ended up using System.AddIn detailed in this step by step example
I have a website running on a private Ip 1.2.3.4 with url "www.xyz.com" and which has external IP 7.8.9.10.
My question is If I want to add one more website on same server with different URL "www.pqr.com" What am I suppose to do? Can I use same External IP for the new website or Do I need one more External IP? And even if we can use same external IP for both website How do I route request to particular website.
Note:- My network is behind firewall and I have internal DNS server as well

View 1 RepliesI have a dialogue window that contains an Accordion Control that is dynamically built. The only thing that appears on my source page is the opening and closing tags for the control. The panes and the controls that appear on the panes are all added dynamically based on records in a database.
Now here is my situation, if a certian action is performed on one of the controls then I want to save that controls data and make it no longer available for use, this was easily accomplished by having the control hide itself. An issue arises though when I have hidden all of the controls on a certain pane, the header for the pane still exists and this is not the desired result.
What I would like is to be able to dynamically remove the entire contents of the control and then re-build it. Due to the timing of the events in the page post back sequence, a simple call to the method that builds the control will not work and if an explanation is required I will provide one. Also, looping through all of the panes and the controls on each pane will not work since after the first pass through the loop the panes collection is mutated, the enum table for the control is no longer correct since the initial pane has been removed, as a result the for loop throws an error.
Can any one come up with a way that I can clear out the control, keeping only the basic empty structure, and re-build it all in a single post to the server?
I'm analizing this situation:
-I've ASP.NET intranet application
-I've to centralize users' passwords in my domain and have visibility of them.
-Each user must change his own password each 3 months.
-Each user must have only one password for the access to Windows,Intranet application and ERP application
Is there a way to block all user accounts periodically and asking them to insert the new password after the logon to windows?after that i could make a query that update the passwrod in Intranet and ERP application.
I have a webform that has a bunch of textboxes (name, address, city, state, ect...) and a gridview that holds records of products (name of product, stock number, qty, ect...) How can I get all of this information into a csv file when the customer presses a "Place Order" button? Does anyone have an example in vb?
View 1 RepliesOne of the current projects I'm working on is converting an existing Access front end to a web app for a SQL Database. I wasn't involved in the original design of the, formerly, Access db and front end. I have the project nearly complete except for one remaining task, which involved links to part datasheets for a particular part.
The current db has a table with 8 columns "File1" through "File8". For each datasheet created for the part one of these columns is populated with the UNC path to the file, "<Server><Department>Documents<filename>.pdf". The Documents folder currently has over 16000 files stored there. The Access front end has a series of textboxes with associated file save, file open, and delete buttons for each. I could do the same think in the webform where I need to allow access but it doesn't seem very clean.
I've thought about importing the documents to the SQL db then use a fileupload method to maintain them, which I've used in apps for new databases but that seems like a daunting task with the existing db.
Any way to use the existing file path data in the db and existing document folder to allow access to the documents and the user to manage them?
I have a large XML file and want to display out to the webform. So instead of parsing each xml node for the information, is there a quick way to display out the whole xml file to the webform without showing the xml element (display data only)?
