Web Forms :: Is Using Both A Required Field Validator And A Compare Validator

Mar 1, 2010

When it comes to field validation, when I use a Compare Validator to make sure a date is a date or a numeric field has a number, I must also use a Required Field Validator to make sure there is something actually enetered. In other words, the Compare Validator allows a blank value even though a blank is not a date or number or whatever.

Is using both a Required Field Validator and a Compare Validator the way to do this or is there some way to make the Compare Validator also require input of some kind?

Get The Compare Validator To Work Server Side?

Aug 31, 2010

I have this compare validator:

<asp:CompareValidator ID="cpvBirthDate" Type="Date" ControlToValidate="txtBirthDate" Operator="DataTypeCheck" runat="server" ErrorMessage="Please enter a valid date in this format mm-dd-yy">
<img src="Images/ExclamationMark.gif" alt="Please enter a valid date in this format mm-dd-yy" />
</asp:CompareValidator>

It works on the clientside fine, but if a user has javascript disabled then it accepts 071873 which is not a date. Do I need to write a specific serverside function for this validator to work?

Web Forms :: Setting A Compare Validator To Compare With Control In Different Content Area

Jan 10, 2011

When attempting to place controls in different content areas using Masterpages and trying to use a compare validator, I get the error: Unable to find control id 'txtStartDate' referenced by the 'ControlToCompare' property of 'cvlDate'. I have also attempted to set it within the c# code behind in page load: cvlDate.ControlToCompare = txtStartDate.ID and by using findControl there must be an easy way to achieve this?

<asp:Content ID="Content4" ContentPlaceHolderID="leftForm" Runat="Server">

<asp:TextBox ID="txtStartTime"runat="server" MaxLength="50" Width="250"/>

Web Forms :: Compare Two Dates In "dd Mmm Yyyy" Format In Compare Validator

Apr 17, 2010

I am trying to check for a condition such that a date in an input control (textbox) is not greater from a date 1 years from current date(exactly) and also it should not be less than a date 1 year back from current date. for eg. if today's date is "21/dec/1990" then usen cannot enter a date in textbox which is less than 21/dec/89 and it should not be greater than 21/dec/1991. for this i first tried to confirm the greater than condition, i wrote the following code:

<asp:TextBox
ID="TxtSessionFrom"
runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:CompareValidator
ID="CompareValidator1"
runat="server"
ControlToValidate="TxtSessionFrom"
ErrorMessage="CompareValidator"
Operator="GreaterThanEqual"
Type="Date"></asp:CompareValidator>
CompareValidator1.ValueToCompare=(DateTime.Now.AddYears(1).ToString());

but this gave an error: The value '' of the ValueToCompare property of 'CompareValidator1' cannot be converted to type 'Date'.

Compare Validators To Allow Comma And Dot (both!) As Decimal Separator?

Feb 4, 2010

I am using a compare validator, which validates that the entered number is a valid double and also validates it against a given value (greater than zero). I am validating money amounts. Because of the location where the app is used, the locale sets the comma as the decimal separator. The problem is that when a user enters the value using the numeric keyboard, the number gets written with the dot as decimal separator, and is rejected by the validation. I'd like to have this validation done before triggering a postback (like a customvalidator would) and accepting both separators.

Web Forms :: Required Validators And Literal Text?

Jan 24, 2011

I will do my best to explain what I am trying to do. This is a form that will allow the user to change his/her password with RequiredValidators in place.Here's how to reproduce the problem that I can't seem to figure out.1. Please open up the aspx file into a browser.2. Click the "Save" button. The required validators should kick in and prompt a "Required" message.3. Key in any word in the "Change Password" textbox except for the word "pass" since I have hardcoded it into the aspx file just for example sake over here.

4. Key in anything for both the "New Password" and "Confirm New Password" textbox.5. Click the "Save" button again. You should be able to see "Your current password is incorrect." next to the "Current Password" textbox which is a Literal control.Here's the problem: How do I hide or get rid of the Literal control when I click save again? Right after the form does a post back, all the password textboxes are empty and I can't find a way to bypass the required validator controls and then screen would look like this below.I will attach my changePass.aspx file code below for reference.

Web Forms :: Required Field Validators Not Firing In The Page?

Feb 17, 2011

I have required field validators in my ASP.NET application form.

In the button click event of the FORM, i.e. OnClientClick(), I am calling a javascript function to validate the controls in this same page. Due to this the required field validators are not getting fired.

I need both the javascript function be fired on the button click , as well as required field validators also to work efficiently.

Web Forms :: Required Field Validators Are Being Triggered By Other Buttons On Page?

Jul 15, 2010

I have created a form with several textboxes and a dropdown list and assigned a required field validator to each of them. I also have a master page with several links to other pages, some made using <a href=..> and some linkbuttons. The problem I am having is that when I click the linkbutton links they do not redirect to the proper page, rather they trigger the validators for all textbox fields and display the validator characters next to each textbox (and the dropdown). When I fill out the form, those links redirect properly. The links created using <a href=..> do not cause this problem.

Regular Expression And Required Field Validators Shutting Down Whole Website?

Jan 18, 2011

We are using regular expression and required field validators. They work fine, especially in out of the box environments like the log in control.

When used on other controls, e.g. a textbox, they also work, but we note that the whole site is in effect shut down until the expression is valid. I.e. the user cannot click cancel, or a link. The site only starts working again after the expression has been made valid.

How can this be fixed?

The validators should only apply to the control to validate and to the control that would cause the value of that control to be posted back to the server (e.g. a button), not the whole site.

Compare Validator Goes Off On Invalid Date?

Mar 3, 2010

I have a date textbox. It has three validators on it. One is RequiredFieldValidator, second is CompareValidator and the third is RegularExpressionValidator.

CompareValidator checks for LessThanEqual for current date. For example if user enters date greater then todays' then it should display error message. It does that.

Problems is if user enters invalidate e.g., 2009/05/0d then I see two error messages. One for invalid date and one for compare. In this specfic case I want to see only one error that 'Date is invalid'. But some how I see two mesages.
