I use some telerik report to print some report.I need to use Telerik.Reporting.TextBox to print labels. Some labels are stock in .txt files, like " Apple".When I see a label with spaces, it means I have to indent it in the report, so in the TextBox.The thing is when we export the report in pdf, we have the indentation, but not when we see in the browser. If I replace the spaces by "& nbsp;", we see the indentation in the browser, but when exporting to pdf, we see the "& nbsp;".

MVC :: Whitespace Removal Before Sending Html?

Aug 1, 2010

I want to improve the html output by removing the whitespaces (see html output). There are a couple of "solutions" out there that do this at the Asp.Net level but those do not work reliable as they do not take the block buffering into account.

Anyone here who has a mvc 3 solution for that and is willing to share?

InvalidUserName In CreateUser When Creating User With Character Before The @ Character

I looked up the msdn documentation and it says that InvalidUserName is thrown when it does not find the username in the database, which is fine because the user I am creating should not exist in the database. If I use, it works, but if I try it with, the status from Membership.CreateUser is InvalidUserName.

MVC :: Whitespace Stripped Between Server Tags In View?

Jun 28, 2010

I'm rendering a view for the text/plain part of an e-mail. But in some cases, the whitespace is removed between non-output server tags, and I can't figure out why. Can someone explain why the following is missing the line breaks before the final line of output?

But this works - whitespace is preserved between output tags:

This is on MVC 2. It may have been on MVC 1 (or even in Web Forms), but I didn't notice it until today when I went to add a new line to the e-mail, so not sure of the source. Does ASP.NET or MVC have some optimization to try not to output whitespace between server tags?

Is there a way of this space not appearing when the page is rendered? Convert A 40 Character SHA1 Hash To A 20 Character?

Mar 17, 2010

I have a legacy MySQL database which stores the user passwords & salts for a membership system. Both of these values have been hashed using the Ruby framework - roughly like this:

hashedsalt =
hashedpassword =

So both values are stored as 40-character strings (varchar(40)) in MySQL. Now I need to import all of these users into the ASP.NET membership framework for a new web site, which uses a SQL Server database. It is my understanding that the the way I have ASP.NET membership configured, the user passwords and salts are also stored in the membership database (in table aspnet_Membership) as SHA1 hashes, which are then Base64 encoded (see here for details) and stored as nvarchar(128) data.

But from the length of the Base64 encoded strings that are stored (28 characters) it seems that the SHA1 hashes that ASP.NET membership generates are only 20 characters long, rather than 40. From some other reading I have been doing I am thinking this has to do with the number of bits per character/character set/encoding or something related.

So is there some way to convert the 40-character SHA1 hashes to 20-character hashes which I can then transfer to the new ASP.NET membership data table? I'm pretty familiar with ASP.NET membership by now but I feel like I'm just missing this one piece. However, it may also be known that SHA1 in Ruby and SHA1 in .NET are incompatible, so I'm fighting a losing battle.

DataSource Controls :: Removing Whitespace In String Not Working?

Jan 20, 2010

I am accumulating a string for a SQL IN clause, so the format needs to be WHERE var IN ('string1','string2','string3',etc)

The strings are coming from a multiline textbox where they are pasted in from the user (one per line).

For some reason, I always get a space right after the tick and before the value in every value after the first. For instance my DataReader is only returning one record because the input string turns out like this:

WHERE ID IN ('12345',' 23456',' 34567')

Here is how I am processing the string, and I can't see why it is not taking that space out.

Even if I move the replace space (line 2) to the end of the code block, it still wont trim it out...
