Null Reference Using .toString / Convert The Object ConnString (a Connection String) Into A String?
Feb 13, 2010
on VWD 2005 this code works fine, but on 2008 it says I haven't created an instance of the object. I want to convert the object connString (a connection string) into a string.
'This acceses the virtual directory web.config file for connection strings
'We have to convert the object to a connection string
Dim rootWebConfig As System.Configuration.Configuration
rootWebConfig = System.Web.Configuration.WebConfigurationManager.OpenWebConfiguration("/VirtualDirec")
Dim connString
As System.Configuration.ConnectionStringSettings
connString = rootWebConfig.ConnectionStrings.ConnectionStrings("ConnectString1")
Dim strConnString
As
String = connString.ToString().......
I have a db connection string 'ApplicationServices' defined in the connectionString section of web.config and 3 Entity Framework connection strings which have the provider connection string attribute with the same connection string as the one in 'ApplicationServices'. Is there a way to reference connectionString in 'ApplicationServices' for the provider connection string attribute of the EF connection string in the web.config, rather than providing the connection string all over again?
<%@ Import Namespace="System.Data.SqlClient" %> <script runat="server" > Dim connStr As String = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("cc").ConnectionString.ToString dim db As New Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection(connStr)
why this error
Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

I'm trying to reference a public property from a string. How can this be done in vb.net? I have the text value of "FirstName" stored in strucParam(i).TxtPropertyName.
This is what I'm currently doing:
Dim tmpValue As String Dim ucAppName As UserControl_appName = CType(Parent.FindControl(strucParam(i).ParentFindControl), UserControl_appName) tmpValue = ucAppName.FirstName.Text
How can I use the value in strucParam(i).TxtPropertyName so that I can remove ".FirstName" from my code?
I have a column (data type timestamp) in SQL Server 2008.Now I want to show this timestamp value in ASP.Net C# app as string. Is there any way to do that?I tried it using regular data fetching in ASP.Net but it produced System.byte[] as output rather than actual value. In SQL Server Management Studio values are represented as 0x000000000000B3C0

I'm using VB.Net (Asp.net 4.0) and I'm getting the following errors for Albums.aspx, Photos.aspx, PhotoViewer.aspx pages. I have attached a screenshot of my two tables.Input string was not in a correct format.

my ASP.NET application reads an xml file to determine which environment it's currently in (e.g. local, development, production).
It checks this file every single time it opens a connection to the database, in order to know which connection string to grab from the Application Settings.
I'm entering a phase of development where efficiency is becoming a concern. I don't think it's a good idea to have to read a file on a physical disk ever single time I wish to access the database (very often).
I was considering storing the connection string in Application["ConnectionString"].
[code].....
I didn't design the application so I figure there must have been a reason for reading the xml file every time (to change settings while the application runs?) I have very little concept of the inner workings here. What are the pros and cons?
I have project in development where string operations like "Hi " + variable + ", welcome to Project" are used at many places (given example is very minor one).
One of the requirement is to convert it to string.format style.
It is very long and tedious job, where I would not like to break earlier working code due to any human error might happen while converting it.
I would like to if any Macro or VS command which I can create to handle it. Just like we mark block of code and do Extract function in Re-factor options.
public class Package { public Package() { name = ""; type = new List<Dictionary<string, string>>(); } public string name { get; set; } public List<Dictionary<string, string>> type { get; set; } } [code]...
How can I do this using XmlDocument?I want readability over performance, and I find XmlReader to be hard to read b/c you have to keep checking the node type.
this code give that solution.but if any one of the field have null(example:r.urrQuickLinkRights contain the NULL) then only it will throw error like Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
