Web.config Error: Could Not Find Schema Information For The Element 'case'

Nov 7, 2010

I've added the section below trying to have my menu displayed correctly in the Chrome browser.

However, VS2008 complains:

Message 1 Could not find schema information for the element 'case'.

Message 2 Could not find schema information for the attribute 'match'.

From web.config:

SQL Reporting :: Connecting To Database - Error "Could Not Retrieve Schema Information For Table Or View"

Jun 3, 2010

Well it's finally time to stop ignoring my unit's need for reports. I keep coming to dead ends. I gave up the crystal reports idea, and ssrs seems a little easier. Now the problem is that I'm creating a report locally on my laptop, then will change the connection string, upload it to my server and have it run against an identical database on the server.

I'm using SQL Server Express locally, and when I try to create a dataset (using the wizard), I can see the tables, but when I try to add one, I get an error message "Could not retrieve schema information for table or view". I looked up this error and there isn't much useful info on it. I guess it some bug when trying to use SS Express? Is there a work around for this? Can I create the report programmatically? Should I use a different kind of reporting service?

Find Element ID - Expression Expected Error

Jan 25, 2013

I'm having issues when trying to run my web app. I'm getting an expression expected error at runtime on the portion of my code that is designed to retain the screen position of multiple drag panels.

var target = $this).attr("id");

should return the id of the uniquely named panel so it can be used later in code to identify the _DragPanelExtender.BehaviorID

$find('<%=' + target + '_DragPanelExtender.BehaviorID%>').set_location(new Sys.UI.Point(parseInt(temp[0]), parseInt(temp[1])));

I haven't been able to verify if the dragPanel's id name is being used, it just errors out here. In the following code, I am attempting to preserve the position of multiple dragPanel's after postback?
function pageLoad() {

//get element id name of button clicked
var target = $(this).attr("id");
// call the savePanelPosition when the panel is moved
var elem = $get("<%=HiddenField1.ClientID%>");

What Is Difference Between Web.config Assemblies Element And Project File Reference Element

Sep 29, 2010

I'm looking at an asp.net application, i notice that there are assemblies defined into two places. In web.config there is configuration/system.web/compilation/assemblies/add elements. In the project file there are references setup under the Project/ItemGroup/Reference elements.

I was wondering, what is the difference between assemblies/references added in either location?

DataSource Controls :: Reading SQL Schema Information?

Apr 27, 2010

I have a C#/Asp.net web application which caches SQL DB schema information. Is there a way that I can determine what child relationships a given table has? I have looked into using the DataTable.ChildRelations property, but it is never populated with items unless i manually create a relationship using the .add property. I also have access to DataColumn information for each column in the database.

C# - Unable To Find Assembly Error When Using <codeSubDirectories> In Web.config

Jan 7, 2010

I have a web site that uses the both c# and vb.net in the app_code section. The different languages are separated into their own folder and correctly configured in the web.config.

<add directoryName="BasicCode"/>
<add directoryName="CSharpCode"/>

This works fine 95% of the time. In production using 2 load balanced servers I sporadically receive an error message along the lines of:

"Unable to find assembly
Version=, Culture=netural,

The site is hosted in IIS7 and I think it has something to do with the name of the dll assigned during dynamic compilation. I do not see this problem in a single server environment. Could this be because when the session is balanced to the second server the dynamic compiled dll name is different?

Getting "60|error|500|Error Serializing Value Case Of Type Case" When Go To FF And Run It

Feb 14, 2011

I have a custom object that I'm throwing into the viewstate on an async postback. If I step through the code, I can put the object into the viewstate, then call the object from the viewstate and cast it with no problems. The code, when stepped through, has no issues whatsoever. However, when I go to FF and run it, I get "60|error|500|Error serializing value 'Case' of type 'Case.'" First thing that hits me as weird is that the value is being named as the type. It's not like value oCase (an instance of Case) of type Case. I've checked that all containing objects are set for serialization, compiled and rerun the web app.

Setting CustomErrors In Web.config Doesn't Work At This Case?

Dec 20, 2010

In my ASP.NET 3.5 Website which is published in shared hosting provider , I've configured my web.config file like this :

<customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="GenericErrorPage.htm">
<error statusCode="403" redirect="AccessDenied.htm"/>
<error statusCode="404" redirect="FileNotFound.htm"/>

This is a yellow page which is not user friendly and we didn't expect . I'm wondering setting customeError in webconfig doesn't support this type of address or not ? How can i prevent users seeing this yellow page . Edit : solution you mentioned are about configuring IIS ,But as i mentioned earlier , my site has been published on shared hosting provider . I don't have those access at IIS , What should i do at this situation ?

Protecting The (location) Element On Web Config?

Oct 26, 2011

Now since i'm securing the site i've noticed that the location element does not get much attention.The only thing i have found is that you can use <location path="" allowOverride="false"> on machine.config .I'm not sure how this goes but if you need to use this one every page then i will have multiple problems.First if i have a page with the same name on another website there is trouble and also if i need to update pages again problem.What i'm not sure of is if the location element on machine.config i just used once and then magically every site you have will throw an exception if a hacker changes you web.config.I have doubts and it's confusing and if i play with the server web.config,well i don't wanna mess with that.

So i also tried to encrypt the location element but i cannot find an example(can you encrypt it?).I can encrypt authorization and authentication but i will not go inside the location element.Just the standard authorization and authentication nodes.How can i secure the web.config location element so no hacker can change the allow,deny,etc.

Jquery - How To Find The Form Element

Mar 23, 2011

I used to have this one...

at the head part

So what changes should i make to the jquery.openid.js to make it work?

I mean in the first case the $this refers to form.openid:eq(0) In the second case the $this refers to #text.openidd and the form is never submitted.

I guess something like this one $this.FindParentForm exists in JQUERY, but i have no clue!

I added the div tag as enclosure for the elements. The form contains other <li>'s etc that jquery messes with. And i would not like that! That's why in my post i believe that the work has to be done in the jquery.openid.js file... something like

$this.GETParentFORM.unbind('submit').submit(function() {
$id.val($this.GETParentFORM.find("li.highlight span").text());

SQL Find The Element ID And Update Database - Get The ID Of The Div

Oct 12, 2010

Basically I've got an update query that runs when you click a submit button. I have an asp:Repeater in my page with a layer inside like this

<asp:Repeater id="dgBookings" runat="server" OnItemDataBound="ItemDB">
<div class="bookingscontent">
<div class="bookingdetails" id="<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "booking_ref") %>">
<p class="infotext"><%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "adults") %> <asp:LinkButton OnClick="EditDetails" Text="Edit..." runat="server"></asp:LinkButton></p>
<p class="infotext"><asp:LinkButton OnClick="SubmitDetails" Text="Submit..." runat="server"></asp:LinkButton></p>

And it outputs HTML like this

<div class="bookingscontent">
<div class="bookingdetails" id="AL05720">
<p class="infotext">2</p>
<p class="infotext"> <a href="javascript:__doPostBack('dgBookings$ctl00$ctl08','')">Submit...</a></span> <a class="EditAdults" href="#" onclick="return false">Edit...</a></p>

<p class="infotext"> <a href="javascript:__doPostBack('dgBookings$ctl00$ctl08','')">Submit...</a></span> <a class="EditAdults" href="#" onclick="return false">Edit...</a></p>

Specify More Than One Directory In Web.Config's Location Path Element?

Jan 5, 2011

In my ASP.NET's Web Config file I have the following location elements defined:

<location path="">
<deny users="?"/>
<location path="dir1">
<allow users="?"/>
<location path="dir2">
<allow users="?"/>

The example above is specifying that all directories will be locked down to anonymous users except the two directories dir1 and dir2. I'm curious if there is a syntax that I can use that will allow me to define more than one directory within one location element. For example, it would be convenient if we could do something like this...

<location path="dir1,dir2,etc">
<allow users="?"/>

Setting The ExecutionTimeout Element In Applications Web.config

Jun 23, 2010

I'm having some trouble setting the ExecutionTimeout element in my applications web.config. My page is making a lengthy webservice call and times out after 110 seconds. (the default I believe). I set the value to 220, and make sure the compilation debug=false.

Does the compilation setting refer to when IIS/ASP.net compiles the ASPX pages when a client requests them, or does it refer to the visual studio compile process there the assemblies are created. Would using an assembly built using debug in visual studio still allow the above settings to work?

Root Path With Tilde - Doesn't Change Upper Case To Lower Case

Dec 30, 2010

I have my project set up with the virtual path "/MyVirtualPath", create the virtual directory in IIS 6 (W2003) and everything works fine. Then to work better with Google Analytics I change the virtual path "/myvirtualpath" and change all redicecciones and links to lowercase. also applies the class "lowercase route urls in aspnet mvc" and works perfectly.

The problem I had to modify the virtual directory in IIS, delete virtual path "/MyVirtualPath" and I created the new "/myvirtualpath", but in all cases I use tilde "~" or where I make a "RedirecToAction" (which should take "LowercaseRoute"), continues to maintain the virtual path "/MyVirtualPath". For example, if I see the HTML source code in the browser, see "/MyVirtualPath/Content/Site.css" instead of "/myvirtualpath/Content/Site.css. "

Breaking Up Web.config File System.webServer Element

Jun 25, 2010

I am trying to break a large web.config file into smaller parts. This has been covered a few times on different stack overflow questions (like this or this) which recommend using the configSource or file attributes. The problem is this does not work for the system.webServer section used to configure IIS 7 in integrated mode. This is particularly bad for web.config files that have IIS Rewrite rules which tend to bloat the files.
