I have a GridView populated by an ObjectDataSource. I also have several DropDownLists filtering the ObjectDataSource. I found a link providing a way to export a DataSet (or DataTable) to Excel here:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/deborahk/archive/2009/07/23/writing-data-from-a-datatable-to-excel.aspx
ow I can ensure that filters applied to the ObjectDataSource when the method is called are applied. In short, how can I ensure what the UI is displaying is what the file will include when exported?

The following code works fine for converting an XML data set to be enumerable for Linq.
'Query webservice for data
Dim propertyInfo As String = myService.GetProperty(userName, password, Acct)
' Create a new DataSet.
[code]...
However, it does not retain the xml tags in the Linq enumerablerable dataset ('newDataSet2"). I don't think I can rely on the array index order as being the same everytime, so this would obviously cause a problem if I'm trying to align the array items up to my database fields. How can I make newDataSet2 retain the XML tags (column headings) to insure I know what data field each array item belongs to?

What's the best way to go from a dataset to the body of an email?
I have a .net console app to send email notification based on results of a stored proc and wanted to know how best to go from SQL data to Email body?
html body with colors and fonts would be best but plain text is also fine.

I have DataReader that holds the results from a stored procedure caal. The results consist of two fields ...
UserID
UserName
Normally I bind these results to an ASP.NET dropdownlist control ...
ddlUserList.DataSource = rdr // rdr is the DataReader
ddlUserList.DataTextField = "UserName"
ddlUserList.DataValueField = "UserID"
ddlUserList.DataBind()
However I am now trying to accomplish the same thing using jQuery AJAX. What I am stuck on is how to manually convert the dataset held in the DataReader to JSON. How are multiples values separated? Does this look correct?
{{"UserID":1, "UserName":"Bob"}, {"UserID":2, "UserName":"Sally"},{"UserID":3, "UserName":"Fred"}}
I realize there are libraries out there such as JSON.NET to handle the serialization but I am in the learning stage now and want to make sure I understand everything from the bottom up.

I have a GridView on ASP.NET web form which I have bound to a data source and set it to have 10 records per page.
I also have a hyper link column on the GridView, such that a user can navigate to another page (details page) from the list. On the details page, they have "Back" button to return to the GridView page
I am looking for sample code snippet on the Server Side on how to specify the page index to set the GridView after data binding.

I have a dataset.table which has some null values. am trying to trasform this using xslt to display like excel. If the value is null, then that node is ommitted by the xml. i tried deafulting the null values from the database itself and thats not generic. Handling null values is troublesome. I tried couple of methods to default null values by looping and thats not optimal solution. I used LINQ to handle null values but couldnt comeup with a neat solution. what am looking for is a generic optimal solution to handle these values.

I'm new to ASP.net (and coding in general) and I was very impressed about how easy is to learn enough to create something useful :)
Unfortunately, now I'm stuck on a problem involving gridview sorting and paging: I created a master gridview bound to an sqldatasource, I enabled sorting and paging and then I linked it to a detailsview to enable editing and inserting.
In addition, I set up two other gridviews whose datasources depend on the master gridview.
When a user selects a row and modifies it in the detailsview, the sort takes place and the row is often moved to another page. This can be a little confusing, especially because there are other controls relying on the selected row of the master gridview.
There's a way to find and select the page of the selected row after gridview's databind and sort take place? I tried creating a dataview to search the index of the selected datakey in the databound event of my gridview, but it doesn't work, because it seems that the rows aren't sorted yet. Maybe I should choose another event?

In my project I work with Entity Framework (LINQ to ENTITY). I only have ADO.NET Entity Data Model and a DAL (Data Access Layer). I also get the data due a WCFClientService. I have a gridview that needed to be exported in Excel.
FlexCel is a tool for generating Excel files based on a template. The only thing I see in demo's is that they work with DataSets.
Is there a way to convert the data in my gridview to a virtual DataSet?
I've written the following method to get the data:

I am looking for a way to figure out the current URL that the page is currently on (NOT what the asp.net page currently is, but where the CODE is at). ie. My web app is located at: [URL] my code is: String page = [URL]
String response = GetResponse(page); //basically the above code goes to the website [URL] and parses the HTML within it and brings it back and populates the variable string "response". But, sometimes the [URL] throws me a curve ball and redirects me to: [URL] I want to be able to use a try/catch to be able to "catch" the error of a different page: ie validateUser.aspx. So, I need to do to this: try
{
String page = [URL];
String response = GetResponse(page);
}
catch
{
//code to check the behind URL to see if [URL] is the URL OR IF [URL] is the current URL
}
understand I know how to find the URL of the current page the web app is on. I need to find the current page that threw the exception during the execution of the code behind.

I am building in error-logging into my site, and want to be able to get hold of the current page name that the error occurred in, as well as the specific subroutine or function, to then pass to a VB.NET function. Is there anyway to get hold of this information without hard-coding the names manually? For example,
Dim strCurrentPageName = ???
Dim strCurrentRoutine = ???

I have a page with a gridview control that shows files that have been uploaded to our site. The name of the uploaded files, who uploaded them, and if they have been downloaded, etc are stored in a table. The gridview is bound to the table through a sqlDataSource control. I have a button column in the gridview that downloads the file associated with a row when the button is clicked. All that works well. I have a check box column that shows checked if a file has been downloaded. When the download button is pressed.
the file downloads and then a short routine is run to update the downloaded field in the uploaded files table to set the downloaded field to true. This is done through a command string. All this works. Here is the question. After the update is run I do a databind on the gridview to update it. The databind is run in the PageLoad event is the page is a postback. This does not cause the current row to show downloaded =true (checked). If I refresh the page in the browser then it displays correctly.

Per different user mode, some pages should not be accessible by users unless they have a valid session key.In your opinions -- would it be better to have a list of acceptable pages in the master page, and check if the current page is valid for the current user? Or handle this on every child page?I'm thinking master page, just want to hear what your input would be.

If the gridview binds to empty dataset, I need to still show a gridview so that users can ADD more using the textfields in the bottom of the footer template. Since the gridview is empty it won't bind not allowing rendering of the <footer template> I guess I should create a empty dataset if the gridview is empty. How do I check for this and can this be done in GridviewRowEventArgs

I am experiencing an issue with the TreeView control when loading new pages. It is databound to web.sitemap, but when loading a new page, it does not select the node of the current page, just resets it to the root. THe new page loads fine, just not preserving the current navigation in the tree view.
