MVC Custom Controls - Container

May 24, 2010

Is there a way to make helper in Asp.Net MVC to wrap other html like this:

<div class="lightGreyBar_left">
<div class="lightGreyBar_right">

<!--Content--> [code]...

So that helper will render containing divs and content that is passed to helper method as parameter.

Custom Server Controls :: UpdatePanel Not A Container In Design Time?

Nov 3, 2010

I have a custom Panel with attribute Designer(typeof(xxxMainPanelEditor), typeof(System.Web.UI.Design.WebControls.PanelContainerDesigner)). The child controls of this custom Panel Control at design time can see all the exposed properties that I want to share from the Parent (no problem here).

However, if I place controls on an UpdatePanel, these child controls cannot see the parent container but instead, it immediately sees the form/page or DesignerHost. The problem is the same even if I put Panel on the UpdatePanel and vise versa.

Is there a way to manage controls inside an update panel? For me, this behavior is like saying that UpdatePanel is not container based during design time?

Custom Server Controls :: Custom Composite Control With Custom Templated Child Controls?

Mar 22, 2011

I am trying to build a custom composite control, which allows me to add custom content to each child control. It's a similar concept to what you have with a GridView and TemplateColumn. The markup used to place the control on the page would end up being something like this:

[Code]....

I have the code below, which allows me to put that markup on the page without throwing any errors, and it renders all the correct HTML, except it doesn't render the contents of the ColumnTemplate. I have replaced the Render() code with a comment because it's quite long winded and doesn't add anything important here:

[Code]....

I have tried to follow examples on MSDN and other forums but I can't make this work. I think I'm missing the code to render the contents of the template, but I don't know how to hook that up.

Use An IoC Container To Create Webforms Pages And Controls?

Aug 26, 2010

With ASP.NET MVC it is pretty easy to integrate an IoC container to create the controllers. Is the same thing also possible with webforms to create the pages and controls and pass them any dependencies? If yes, where do I have to plug it in?

Forms Data Controls :: Container.DataItemIndex From Child Controls

<asp:Button ID="btnSend" runat="server" OnClick="btnSend_Click" Text="Отправить"
ValidationGroup="mesGr" CommandName="Send" rowId=<%# Container.DisplayIndex %> replyTo='<%# Eval("Sender") %>' />

As you can see I want to pass Container.DisplayIndex to handler. The problem is that this is not just child od ItemTemplate - Button is a child of LoginView which is a child of a Panel inside ItemTemplate ) I found a way how to pass that Container.DisplayIndex: <%# (Container.Parent.Parent.Parent as GridViewRow).DataItemIndex%>

AJAX :: Controls Inside Tab Container Accessing Through .cs Code Behind

Mar 5, 2010

I've a web project where i've an Tab Container (ajaxtoolkit), and when i run the project it works properly. But when i debug it, it gives me erros in all the controls inside the Tab Container that i'm accessing through .cs code behind (buttons, checkbox, etc).

As it's the first time that i use an Tab Container, i don't know if this is normal or maybe of Visual Studio 2010 RC (or not).

Custom Server Controls :: How To Custom Controls Derived From Existing Controls - Overriding Default Property Values

Nov 15, 2010

I have some (probably very basic) questions about developing custom controls. I am wanting to derive a set of button controls, and the first one I have started on is a "DeleteButton", that has a additional property (DeleteConfirmationText) that is built into the OnClientClick attribute. To get that added, I overrode the Render method as follows:

[Code]....

This all works well. Now, I will add some logic to make sure that there is some text in the DeleteConfirmationText property, but that isn't the intent of my question.
What I am also wanting to do is to override some of the default property values, so I added that to the default constructor:

[Code]....

Now, in the designer in VS2008, and I look at the properties for the control, there isn't a default value shown in the "Properties" section, and the Causesvalidation still shows the underlying classes default value of "True". As well, in design mode, where the GridView control that containse my DeleteButton control would be displayed, there is an error box "There was an error rendering the control. 'Are you certain you want to delete this attorney?' cound not be set on property 'DeleteConfirmationText'. Here's the markup where I am defining the deletebutton control:

[Code]....

What am I doing wrong?

Forms Data Controls :: Repeater ItemTemplate To Create A Div Container

Apr 16, 2010

In my application I have successfully pulled some rows from a database into a DataSet and then used an ASP.NET Repeater Control to create a div container for each row with each field contained within a span element as follows:

<asp:Repeater
id="repeater"
runat="server">
<ItemTemplate>
<div
id="ticketContainer">
<a
href="#"><img
src="~/Images/treeview_expand.png"
alt=""
runat="server"
/></a>
<span><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,
"USERNAME")%></span>
<span><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,
"COMPUTERNAME")%></span>
<span><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,
"CATEGORY")%></span>
<span><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,
"DATE")%></span>
<span><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,
"TIME")%></span>
<span><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,
"STATUS")%></span>
<p><%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,
"DESCRIPTION")%></p>
</div>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>

My problem is that I want the .png graphic link to have a onclick event so that a new div is dynamically inserted under the div to show data from a seperate database table. However since its all declared within the ItemTemplate then targeting the correct div using the JS DOM would be difficult/impossible as the id for each of the divs will be the same.

If this is going to be infeasible then what is the possibility of having data brought in from multiple tables would I have to manipulate the DataSet to include the extra columns as I think Repeater Controls can only have a single DataSet (corret me if i'm wrong).

Forms Data Controls :: Passing Repeater Container.dataitem To JavaScript Function?

Sep 16, 2010

I am collecting user roles into a single dimension string array.

I have a repeater that its source set to that array. The repeater template includes list of checkboxes for the values in the array.The checkbox text is set to: Text='<%# Container.DataItem %>'

All is good till this point.

But I am trying to call a javascript function triggered by clickign a checkbox and pass it the container.dataitem, but the javascript doesn't seem to be reading the value and either complain about string not being in correct format or that treats the container.dataitem as a liter. This is the trial that didn't work (I tried many different things too):

DetermineVal(<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem) %>);
determineval is my javascript function

Can I do that with a single dimension array?

Custom Server Controls :: Controls Disappear In Custom Control Design View

Aug 9, 2010

I have a site using eight (so far) custom web user controls and two of them have started misbehaving in design view. When designing the control itself some (in one control) or all (in the other) regular controls (labels, text boxes, etc.) disappear from the design view surface. They can still be seen in the source view and if the control is hosted on a regular .aspx page the control displays properly. The code window recognizes all controls in the objects dropdown list and I can write appropriate code. The controls run properly on their hosted pages.

If I switch to Split view and select controls in the source view panel a very small area od the design surface becomes selected (like one pixel for any of us who remember programming old DOS applications with 80-column screens) but no controls can be seen.

In short, the controls work in every respect except that I cannot see all or part of the design surface in Design view when editing the controls directly.

I've double-tripple checked the source code for anything that may be causing this and just don't see anything. (The controls aren't that complicated.)

Custom Server Controls :: Adding Controls To Custom Extended Gridview?

Oct 20, 2010

I have custom gridview that inherit from the regular gridview.

On of the features is that is has a built in page size dropdown in an extra header row.

Another feature is that this extra header row has a place holder where aditional controls can be added but here is where I have some problems.

When I add a control that is created outside the gridview to the gridviews builtin placeholder and tries to do anything that performs a postback the gridview dissepears, but appears again on a new post back.

Here is the code for the gridview:

[Code]....

And this is the way it is used in a usercontrol on page, the gridview is called gvList and the control that I try to add to its placeholder is the phrExtraHeaderControls:

[Code]....

What can be wrong, is the viewstate messed up in the postback so that the gridview can't be rendered?

To Create A Custom Control That Adds Other Controls Visible To The Page Hosting My Custom ?

Oct 22, 2010

I want to create a custom control where I define several specifically named DIV sections. The code-behind logic of the custom control will perform operations on these named DIV sections. The page where the custom control is hosted needs to be able to add named controls to the DIV sections and perform operations on these named controls added to the DIV sections.

Let me explain a little further. In the custom control, I want to have code behind logic that fires the following Page Event and uses a condition to make one or another specifically named DIV section visible or not:

< _
ToolboxData("<{0}:BaseDetails runat=""server""></{0}:BaseDetails>") _
> _
Public Class BaseDetails

[code]...

how can I create a custom control which is able to generate the named DIV sections "DetailsNameDiv1" and "DetailsNameDiv2" where my custom control can check a condition and make one or the other visible. Also, I need to be able to add controls to these named DIV sections when I host the custom control and the control that I add to the named DIV section needs to let me set values of these controls from the code behind logic of the page (or usercontrol) where the custom control is being hosted (in my example, I am adding TextBox controls that I want to set the Text property from a SQL Data Reader).
