Oct 18, 2010I have a producer-consumer scenario in ASP.NET. I designed a Producer class, a Consumer class and a class for holding the shared objects and responsible for communication between Producer and Consumer, lets call it Mediator. Because I fork the execution path at start-up (in parent object) and one thread would call Producer.Start() and another thread calls Consumer.Start(), I need to pass a reference of Mediator to both Producer and Consumer (via Constructor). Mediator is a smart class which will optimize many things like length of it's inner queue but for now consider it as a circular blocking queue. Producer would enqueues new objects to Mediator until the queue gets full and then Producer would block. Consumer dequeues objects from Mediator until there's nothing in the queue. For signaling between threads, I implemented two methods in Mediator class: Wait() and Pulse(). The code is something like this:

Inside Mediator I use this.Pulse() every time something is Enqueued or Dequeued so waiting threads would be signaled and continue their work.But I encounter deadlocks and because I have never used this kind of design for signaling threads, I'm not sure if something is wrong with the design or I'm doing something wrong elsewhere ?
Logging From Framework Internals (Logging.On) - How To Turn On Logging
Jul 6, 2010I'm debugging some unexpected behavior and while tracing in to the .NET framework I see a bunch of stuff like this:

But (as expected by default) the execution steps right over these. Is there some way to turn on the logging? Or is that just something that the framework developers can do while making special builds of the framework?
Performance - What Logging Listener Should Be Used In Production ( Logging Application Block)
Sep 10, 2010I'm using MS Enterprise Logging Application Block in an ASP.NET website.
For production launch, I will set up a log listener in one of these locations:
Sql Server database
Windows event log
Text files
Which has the least impact on performance?
NB - I can't switch to Log4Net or ELMAH at this point, so don't suggest that in your response.
Enterprise Library Logging Not Logging To Event Log?
Jun 3, 2010I spent a day trying to make Ent Lib Logging work and log anything into database or event log. I have a web application and console application with the same Ent Lib config but only the console application is capable to log into the Event Log. I tried everything with permissions but I don't know what exactly I am doing — which services should have what. It does not work!
I read articles like this[URL] and I want to try to give the ASPNET account those permissions. I am using Windows 7 and I cannot find ASPNET user account. So where is it?

I have a login page, I login like I should and everything works.I logout and when I type/paste the address to the page, in the address field, I still reach it just like if I was still logged in..The page I type in the address field is in a subfolder, only suppose to be able to be reached by logged in users and in this folder,ith it's own web.config-file:

Sql - Pound Signs (£) Disappearing From Strings?
Jul 22, 2010I'm usually a LAMP developer, but some .NET work has arrived on my plate and I'm a bit stumped.
If I run the following code:
<% poundsign = "£" %>
<% Response.Write poundsign %>
<% Response.Write "£" %>
... nothing is displayed. However, outside of the <% %> tags (ie in the HTML) £ displays correctly.
I have no trouble displaying the usual alphanumerics, it's just the £ sign that is proving problematic. The underlying file is in Windows 1252 encoding, and I need to serve it as such. If I save the file as UTF-8, I get mojibake instead of a £.
what I can do to make this work, or any settings that might be preventing it from working (other than saving the file in a different format)?

Jul 19, 2010Is there a way to be able to create a new database when a company signs up to my site, and be able to use that database when he/she logs in, so for example if company A logs in he uses CompanyA database and if company B logs in he uses Company B database, now they all have the same table structure, just need to figure out a way to use a specific database depending on the user that logs in.

I have some currency fields that are defined as Decimal. I would like to allow the user to enter a (leading) dollar sign in these (TextBox form fields). Although, when the EntityDataSource goes to save the changes to the datbase, it throws:
Error while setting property 'QuotedMaterial': 'Cannot convert the value of parameter 'QuotedMaterial' to the type 'System.Decimal'.'.
Does anyone know how I can "tell" the EF to allow dollar signs and convert (drop) them accordingly? I am trying to avoid creating my own Data or Business Logic layer for this particular application. I would like to stick with the EntityDataSource and other
"built in" controls to minimize the C# code behind as much as possible.
I guess my only alternative is to deny $ (Dollar Signs) (and commas too for that mater, it doesn't like them either). The problem is I am porting a legacy application and I would like to keep it as close to the original as possible (and they are currently
allowed to enter dollar signs in this application). You see, they use copy/paste for data entry quote often on this particular form and it just so happens that the source data (they are copy/pasting from) always has a $ in it...

Now, after the user signs out, I noticed that the user is still able to see this restricted page on pressing the back button. I want to create the functionality such that once the user signs out, the page should not be viewable. How can that be done?
P.S I am not using built in Login controls in ASP.NET

I am interested in having a log that will tell me, who - userid that logs in, what they do, how long. meaning, the rows they look at or update. I suppose to make a small table for this logging. lets assume a small table with only 2 columns, timestamp and the userid. It would be good to get some kind of ip address for identity.

The code works fine, however I observe that the regular expression is not picking up the negative or positive sign in the Daily_Movement data. For example, a daily movement can be -0.31 or +0.31 but the code is not picking the sign in front of the decimal values.Here is my code

I think where the problem lies is the part of the code Regex r1 = new Regex("<span class="quoteData">.*</span>"); It picks up the values between the tag quite well, but not the signs in front of it. [Code]....

It could be for whatever reason (for example, an error occurred or memory topped off). I don't have direct access to my production servers, so when I want something on the server, I have ask specifically for it like PerfMon counters to run. It is a running IIS 6.0. I understand that I could use PerfMon to catch ASP.NET Application Restarts. If I was not monitoring that PerfMon, is there anything that can tell me the application restarted sometime in the past?

The service will process some files, and provides information messages to the user.
I'm not sure how to implement the link between the windows service and the web site, but i was trying to avoid using MSMQ to connect both application together.

Mar 8, 2011I have a large web application, which is supposed to run in a 64 bit process. However, when I set "Enable 32-bit Applications" to False on my App Pool, I get the following error trying to run the app in IE:
is not a valid Win32 application. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800700C1)
The application name at he beginning of the error message is missing, i.e. I have not lost it during copy and paste.
I have been advised to use Process Monitor to determine which application/DLL load is actually causing the error, but I have no idea where to start with this.
EDIT: I have tried filtering Process Monitor on only w3wp.exe and only file system and process events, but simply attempting a navigate to the root URL yields 34,012 events.
