Image Handler Stripping Filetype On Download?
Sep 30, 2010
I have created an ashx handler to render image thumbnails from images in a mysql database. If a file name is passed through querystring, the content disposition filename is set (when user clicks "save as..." the filename appears). The images appear properly and the filename appears when user selects "save as..." but the filetype is listed as unknown and the file that downloads has no type. I have tried adding ".jpg" to the end of the filename in content disposition for lack of anything else to try, but this made every image download as untitled.bmp.

I am generating an image using handler and showing that image on image control. Now I want to download same image which is generated using handler. In my handler, I am passing imagepath and one querystring and retrieving some data from database and watermark that content to my image. How to download that same image.
Code:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
if (Request.QueryString.HasKeys()) {
string Code = Request.QueryString["Code"].ToString();
Session["Code"] = Code;
imgCoupon.ImageUrl = String.Format("ImageHandler.ashx?ImageUrl=" + Server.MapPath("Images/coupon.jpg") + "&Code=" + Code + "");

implemented a generic handler in my application which works great for images, but when I manually type the handler URL in the browser with the image's querystring it prompts download instead of displaying. Here is my code:

if (this.FileName != null)

I've had read some articles and watch video tutorial which there were perfectly working and I followed it but I wasn't able to make it work. The image control just displayed blank. I used Generic Handler to retrieve the image file from my database based on the articles and tutorials I've got. here are my codes below:
Generic Handler:
Code:
<%@ WebHandler Language="C#" Class="ShowImage" %>
using System;
using System.Configuration;
using System.Drawing;
using System.Drawing.Imaging;
[Code] ....
Asp.Net Code for the Image control:
HTML Code:
<asp:Image ID="Image1" runat="server" ImageUrl='<%# "ShowImage.ashx?ID=" + Eval("ID") %>' Height="128px" />

Is it possible to limit the asp.net fileupload dialog to view only XML files?(Filer, .xml only)
Note: Not to check whether the extension is .xml, but to actually only let the user view xml files in the dialog.

When I have a HttpHandler class in C#/ASP.NET mapped to a file extension in IIS any file with that extension fails to download/display in web browsers (it's downloaded as a 0-byte file in some browsers and nothing at all in other browsers). After removing the application mapping for the HttpHandler in IIS so it doesn't call the IHttpHandler class in C#, the web browser downloads the file successfully.
This was tested with an IHttpHandler class in C# that has an empty ProcessRequest method.

I am working on a web application. Some images are calling a web provider, which renders the picture, and send it to the client (the html looks like img ... src="/WebProviders/ImageHandler.ashx?.../>).The problem I have encountered is that both IE8 and Firefox 3.6.8 fire the request to the handler more than once, yet not consistently. I could not trace a pattern (the same image sometimes cause one and sometimes several requests).

I have 50 sites for 50 states. When a company uploads their contact info their image is stored in a folder relative to the site they are uploading from. When you view this company on the other sites the image is not present. So, I was thinking I would store the path of where the file is originally and then access it through the handler, but I can't seem to get the handler to recognize locations other than virtual directories.

a silverlight app sends an image to a webservice which store the image in a database and then a handler retrieves the image from the db to display it... quite common so far.
Everything is working absolutely fine on my test server (IIS on my development machine) but, as soon as i try it on the production server : no way, the image is never displaying (in any browser). Firefox says that it cannot display it because it contains error...
I tried to download the database from the production server just after saving an image to the db and, locally, the image is displaying...
The image is in png format.
Here is my code :

I have a complex page. Basically, it is a ListView with images displayed through handlers. Paging is done through a datapager. This is all wrapped in an Ajax UpdatePanel so it pages seamlessly.
When the user sees a image they like and click on it, it should display in an image above the ListView. This work when I DON'T use the updatePanel, but of course, then I get flicker. Wrapping it in an update panel results in the paging working. When the user clicks an image it goes to the db as expected, but it simply never updates the image being displayed.
Here is how the image that is clicked on is defined.
<asp:ImageButton ID="imgbtnImage" runat="server" ImageUrl='<%#"~HandlersThumbnailDBHandler.ashx?id=" & Eval("ID")%>' CommandArgument='<%#Eval("ID")%>'/>

I have many static images under a directory in my site structure, and I'm not concerned with hotlinking or copy-protecting the images. For a myriad of reasons, what I need to do is not show the image path on the site (or show a fake one).
Is there any way to do this without resorting to an http handler or a worker asp.net page?

In my application, there's a module that displays a user's assignments. Sometimes these assignment descriptions are pretty long that's why I display up to 500 characters of the description. However, because I use an HTML editor in the app, if I blindly grab the first 500 characters, there's a good chance the description will look very funky due to missing HTML tags. So, I first need to strip off all the HTML tags, then grab the first 500 characters. Before I re-invent the wheel, I wanted to see if someone else has already tackled this issue and would be kind enough to share his/her code with me.
