Make .net Routing Use A Different Application Path?

Oct 20, 2010

In an asp.net mvc application, I would like to be able to generate views, where the routing engine will create all URLs that point to a different site, i.e. change the application path.

MVC :: Routing Relative Path Instead Of Absolute Path?

Jun 9, 2010

When I write following code in my view

<% Url.Action("Logon") %>
the mvc framework generates
/Account/Logon ({controller}/{action})
as path.
'/Account/Logon' path is an absolute path. Is there a way to change is to a relative path, like Account/Logon or ../Account/Logon.

Also, when I use the Html.Beginform(), the mvc framework generates <form action="/account/logon"..., I want to change this to <form action="account/logon"...So, problem is that I want relative paths instead of absolute path.

URL Routing Rewrite Path But Keep Mimetype?

Feb 19, 2010

I have implemented my own IRouteHandler for URL routing. For files without extension it will try to load the filename as a Page from the Pages directory with:

return (IHttpHandler) BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath(path, typeof(Page));

However there are also images and css files (with relative paths) that need to be translated to the correct url. I try to service those files with:

try {
HttpContext.Current.Server.Transfer(fileName);
} catch (HttpException) {
throw new HttpException(404, "file not found");
}

This works fine (in Internet Explorer), however Firefox is giving me an error:

Styles.css was not loaded because its MIME type, "text/html", is not "text/css".

Is this caused by the Server.Transfer? What should I use to redirect the file? Response.Redirect is visible to the client.

Web Forms :: URL Routing And Page Content Path?

Mar 15, 2010

I have a WebForm website that loads content pages in the form of a web user control (.ascx) using the querystring.

Sample url:

http://mysite.com/?page=/members/default or http://mysite.com/default.aspx?page=/members/default

The content files would be located at ~/contents/members/default.ascx.

Would it be possible and how to use the URL Routing to accomplish http://mysite.com/page/members/default and more folders down.

I have tried putting in the Global.ascx file:

[Code]....

In the default.aspx page:

[Code]....

Everything works fine if content is in the root folder and the url is http://mysite.com/page/about ==>
http://mysite.com/default.aspx?page=/about.

Errors when trying a content that is in a subfolder and the url is http://mysite.com/page/members/default ==> http://mysite.com/default.aspx?page=/members/default.

Web Forms :: 4.0 WebForms Routing And Path Characters?

Apr 14, 2010

I'm going through my apps and carving out as many querystring URLs as possible by using Routing instead.For our product catalog,we have many product categories that have characters like ampersands and slashes in them which don't go over to well when used in a URL.

I'm currently using Page.GetRouteUrl in my databound objects to create URLs like "~/catalog/My Category", which gets encoded to "~/catalog/My%20Category", so I used string.replace to smooth that into "~/catalog/My_Category".

But then, as mentioned, I have categories with commas, ampersands, slashes, quotes, &c.,

My question: is there a general way to easily deal with these characters in route keys, or do I need to develop a list of URL-friendly characters to use and replace all of the ugly ones, then un-replace them when I'm passing the route data to my LINQ statements?If that's so, then I can't use <asp:RouteParameter /> in declarative markup.

IIS7 Application Configuration - Placing Into Single Physical Path And Creating Multiple Pointing To That Path

Dec 20, 2010

I have a custom ASP.NET application that I utilize for several clients that I host. Each client has a separate domain and the application is normally a child application under the root domain [URL]. The application files are the same (aspx, ascx, style sheets, images, etc.). The only thing different is the web.config file for each client. As development of the application continues to evolve, I have to update the application for each directory and this obviously becoming tedious. I am trying to come up with a method keep the application up to date. My first though is placing the application into a single physical path and creating multiple applications pointing to that path (the problem with this method is I can't have different web.config files). I am curious as to what solution others are using in this scenario...

Deploying Web Forms Application Using Routing On IIS 6?

Jun 1, 2010

To clarify, the scenarios I am looking at involve deploying ASP.NET 4 Web Forms application that employ RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute:

public class Global : System.Web.HttpApplication
{
public static void RegisterRoutes(RouteCollection routes)
{
RouteTable.Routes.MapPageRoute("questionnaires", "questionnaires", "~/Pages/Questionnaires/List.aspx", false);

[Code]....

Scenario 1: The application is NOT hosted as a virtual directory in an existing website, but is a stand-alone website (it is its own starting point). It has its own application pool. When deployed, it worked without any tinkering.

Scenario 2: The application is hosted as a virtual directory underneath an existing website. It also has its own application pool. However, I received 404 errors when trying to access the routes I had mapped out. Fortunately, I had experience getting MVC to work in 3.5 sp 1, so I tried that method: opened the properties dialog of the virtual director, went to the "Directory" tab, click the "Configuration" button, and added a Wildcard application map to the aspnet_isapi.dll and unchecked the "Verify that file exists" checkbox. This made it work.

My question is why did I have to add a wildcard application map in the second scenario but not the first? If it helps, the root website that hosts the virtual directory in the second scenario is set up with ASP.NET version 2.0.50727.

Remotly Connecting To A Web Forms Application That Uses Routing?

Mar 30, 2010

I've been developing a asp.net/c# web application that uses .net routing with Visual Studio 2008. The project is setup to use http://localhost:17315 as the server path. I'm trying to figure out a way for a co-worker to connect to my local project from their system. When I setup the project as a virtual directory in IIS (5.1) the .net routing doesn't work correctly and I get a 404 error (http://localhost/home).Is there anyway for a user on our local network to connect to my application remotely with my current configuration? I know they can't connect to the Visual Studio Development Server, but I would think they should be able to connect if the application is setup in IIS. Maybe IIS6+ is needed for this?

Custom Server Controls :: Make Root Relative Path?

Jul 26, 2010

I'm creating a custom server control which needs to take in a root-relative path for one of it's properties. I use the UrlProperty, but when I select a file in the markup, the selected path doesn't inlcude the the "~/". I'd like to mimic the behavior of a hyperlink. So let's say I have this:

<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" NavigateUrl

When I type in an equals sign after the NavigateUrl property, intellisense pops open a URL picker and I can pick from any page to produce this code:

<asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink1" NavigateUrl="~/default.aspx"

this code has the "~/" in front. When I use my control, I have this:

<cc1:TestControl ID="TestControl1" Url="default.aspx"

the C# code has this property:

[UrlProperty]
public string Url { get; set; }

Does anyone know how I can make the "~/" be placed in front to make a root-relative path?

How To Implement Custom 404 Page In .NET Web Form Application Using Routing

Jun 19, 2010

I am using ASP.NET 4.0 Web Forms. I learned that, in order to optimize my Web Application for Search Engine, I must implement custom 404 page. But the way Microsoft tell us to implement custom 404 (within Web.Config file), that is not good for SEO. Microsoft says,

<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="GenericErrorPage.htm">
<error statusCode="404" redirect="Page-Not-Found.aspx" />
</customErrors>

But when the page is not found, IIS issue 302 redirect to Page-Not-Found.aspx page which is not good. So, I implemented custom 404 page using Routing technique that is available in ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 and 4.0. I used the following router in Global.asax page

How To Stop The Underlying Web Form In A Routing Application From Being Accessed Directly

Oct 5, 2010

Imagine a Web Forms application with routing.

A clean page name like:

[URL]

Might have an underlying of URL of:

[URL]

If a user enters [URL] into a browser, I need to redirect to [URL]

Is this possible to do?

I can't work out a way to do this as the routing engine is not executed for a physical page and in the page.aspx Page_Load method I have no way of knowing whether the URL was entered directly or was the result of a route.
