Manage Users And Roles Online?
Feb 15, 2010I'm looking to be able to manage my users and roles online. So that I don't have to re create the wheel, is there a way I can upload the asp.net configuration tool for my website?

View 4 RepliesI am working on an application that resides on a development server on our internal network. The application was originally written to use Membership and Roles. We got busy almost a year ago before the app was finished, and now we are trying to get it ready to use internally.
The login page works just fine, but I have lost the ability to controls users and roles. I am running Visual Studio 2010 Professional now on a Windows 7 VM. I can open the application fine but there is no Web Administration Tool available for me to manage users or roles. If I go to Website -> in Visual Studio, there is no option for ASP.NET Configuration in the drop down menu. It simply isn't there.
How can I regain access to manage users and roles for this application? We are using Forms authentication and the database resides on a SQL Server 2005 instance on a separate box from the web server and my local VM.
Working on my first asp.net webpage. i have followed video tutorials and implemented asp.net membership for login/security.Using Visual Studio 2010 i can open the Asp.net configuration page for management locally. But then if I want my site admin to manage users/security online, how is this done? Like manage through a web browser. I guess this asp.net configuration GUI is not available on the internet?
View 4 RepliesWe have asp.net configuration tool to manage user's permission and role for our offline website,
it is working very fine.
Now, I have uploaded my website and aspnetdb.mdf
now i want to manage users and it security and roles online.
How can i have asp.net Configuration tool
i want to implement asp.net role provider to assign users over my LAN to roles and have my asp.net intranet app implement security based on roles.
i dont want to use VS to manage this with the built in tools but rather hand this off to users to manage themselves. i want an admin folder with a page(s) for admin roles to be able to create/edit roles and manage users in roles... this way an admin can add a domain user (MyDomainUsername) to a role such as ProojectManager or Tester or Developer... and users wont need to contact me for these tasks...
can anyone provide me a link (or some sample code) to some sample i can use to admin roles and users over a LAN in asp.net with c#?
I have an asp.net web app that uses forms-based authentication, a SqlMembershipProvider (using an encrypted password format), and a SqlRoleProvider. I need to know if it's possible to administer the users (create new users, assign them to roles, etc.) from a windows application - the powers that be don't want any administrative functionality in the web app itself.
Here is the membership provider definition from web.config:
[code]....
So, obviously, I have a Sql Server database that contains the users and roles for the web app. I'd like to create a separate windows app that references the web app assembly, and use the configured MembershipProvider, RoleProvider, and machineKey to create users, assign users to roles, etc. If that's not possible, I can duplicate the configuration settings from web.config within the windows app. But I don't know how to do this either.
We have implemented the ASP membership and roles..and we would like to display the users currently logged in and also display the number of users online so we can display that on the page. The list of users woudl only be available to our admins. BUt the number of users will show for everyone.
View 9 RepliesI'm using vs 2005 and asp.net 2.0 to create my website. Recently, I thought about applying membership instead of my customized security system in order to achieve higher security level and performance. At first thing went well, since it was easy to create/manage users and Role names from behind code, but when I came upon the "Access Rules" I faced what you can call it an 'obstacle' at least from my opinion.
The thing is, I don't want to use Asp.net Web Site Administration Tool to create and manage my access rules which I'm going to assign to each of my dynamically created Roles. What I want to be able to do is make a page where the Admin can create/manage his desired Role(s) and also, create/manage the Access Rules, then add such Access Rules to the previously created Role(s).
Now, what I need to know first is... is it even possible to do such thing in the first place? Because the way i understand it is, since the access rules are stored in the web.config of each folder/directory that you apply them on then it shouldn't be allowed to modify it from the running/published website.
In Visual Studio 2010 there is a handy tool for managing users for my Silverlight Business Application. How do I do this with my deployed application?
View 1 RepliesI have an ASP.NET web application that is using forms authentication. Everything is configured and working correctly. However, i'm dealing with the issue of creating and maintaining users and role membership.
I know that I can roll my own solution but I'm wondering if there is an alternative solution?
Does iis7 provide screens for managing forms authentication users? Is there a reliable, free solution that someone would recommend?
I have a page in my application which always shows updated list of online users. Now, to keep the list-which is stored in application object- updated, i do the below steps
add user to list when login remove user on log off Then to handle browser close/navigate away situations, I have a timestamp along with the username in the collectionAn ajax call every 90 seconds updates the timestamp.
The problem:
I need something to clean this list every 120 seconds to remove entries with old timestamps.
How do I do this within my web application? ie Call a function every 2 mins.
PS: I thought of calling a webservice every 2 mins using a scheduler , but the hosting environment do not allow any scheduling.
I need to know to get current online user list. How can I achieve. I am using membership concepts that is asp login control.
View 1 Replieswhat I need to know is how to show a count of how many users are signed on with a custom sql script, here is what i got that shows total users but not total online
[Code]....
Again this gives a total count but i need a total count of who is online with this setting, and try to keep it in sql statement if possible as i have not yet learned how to use stored procedures.
I need a reliable way of checking if a user is logged into a web based game. This is the scenario:
I have a game on the front end built in Flash with Actionscript 3, that calls a web Service in .NET. So in some way I'd like to create a reliable way of getting a list of users that are logged into the game. I would need to create a Timer in Actionscript that calls a method in the Web Service every certain amount of time, but I'm not sure which is the best way to do it on the server side.
I remember in the old days with classic asp I'd use global.asa and it was not reliable at all. Also, checking a database with a boolean, would always depend on the user clicking on "logout". So i guess there needs to be some kind of asyncronous coding in there somehow.
i am using membership classes,,, i want to fetch the list of users who are online based on a condition... the condition is that i want to fetch the users with a specified userids... eg i have 10 user's userids and i want to check which of these users are online..
View 6 RepliesHow can I get all the current users online in MVC 2 (like chat)?
Remember that MVC 2 (or v1.0) template was built-up with membership view/controller/model. That is possible using that model, I can get the online users?
I would like to know the number of users logged into my ASP.NET 2.0 application.
Points to be considered:
1) Simplest way would be to use Application or Cache object to have the counts on Session start or end. However this would fail if there is a worker process recycle. Wouldn't it?
2) Should't make a difference whether the session is inproc/state server managed/ or SQL server managed.
3) Should preferably be seamless to a web-farm architecture.

View 1 RepliesI am using ASP.Net + .Net 3.5 + VSTS 2008 + IIS 7.0 + C# to develop a web application. I want to count how many users are online. This is my current implementation, when Session_Start is called, I will increase # of users online by 1;when Session_End is called, I will descrease # of users online by 1.Two quesitons,A Is that implementaiton correct?B. Another question is, I think this method can not track # of users of real time, since when user closes the browser, Session_End will not be called immediately (Session_End will be deferred to be called). Correct?
View 3 RepliesI've got a website project and I use my own login security and save the user and other info in session variables. Is there any way to know when they are online and offline by their user name I have in a session variable? Or do I need to use another method such as the asp.net user security?
I do know with the asp.net security I can check if a user is authenticated.
i want to know online user in my web site.
View 1 RepliesI'm workin with Visual studio 2010 and I'm trying to create an ASP.net Web Site, language used - C#
I have 2 different pages, for 2 different users with 2 different roles. Each page has a textbox.I have already created them. What I want to do, is to make a bind between this 2 textboxes, so that the second to get the first boxes' text.I managed to do it, but only if the textboxes are on the same page, very easy (Textbox2.Text=TextBox1.Text) . But how to do it for 2 different pages, for 2 different users with 2 different roles?
Another trouble would be....How can I connect the both users same time....after i start debugging the project, I do a sign in but when I sign in with the second user, the first is automaticly siggned out and the text it's lost. Then, how can they synchronize and the second user see what the first one wrote, using that 2 textboxes? Wich is the solution?
