.net - Httphandler Doesn't Engage For Non-home Pages
Mar 2, 2010
I have an MVC2 application, and HttpHandler Library. The library, to simplify, serves an image. The problem is that if I invoke this handler from the root page ( http://whatever/ ), everything works fine. If, however, I change the Global.asax, so the same page now has the address of http://whatever/controller/action - it doesn't work (ALT text comes out instead of image).I didn't write the handler library, but I have the code; so I put a breakpoint in ProcessRequest function of IHttpHandler implementation. For good situation the breakpoint gets triggered, but for bad case it isn't. So, I assume that the handler isn't invoked for non-root pages.

I'm trying to create a HTTP handler to handle all requests to a folder but I only want it to fire if the files requested don't exist (EG: Request comes in for file X, if X exists I'd like to serve the file, otherwise the handler should deal with it).The files will only be static content, not scripts themselves, which I assume makes it a bit easier but I can't seem to find anything that will do the trick... Anyone have any ideas? I assume it can be done since the IIS7 rewrite module can manage it, but I can't see how...Edit Just to clarify... the handler is the typical case and it is not an error-handling routine but actually delivering appropriate content. I just want the ability to add new files to the folder either as separate things or as overloads to what the handler would deliver.

I have ASHX HTTPHandler which implements IRequiresSessionState. When I call this handler, and call aspx page of same application in another window, aspx page does not start processing until ashx page finishes processing. Even call to same ashx page from two different windows show that page which gets called first executes and then the next one.When I do not implement IRequiresSessionState, pages load asynchronously without waiting for other page to complete.

If we use an aspx page with a Caching Profile, the server caches images that are loaded with the aspx page. So if ten clients load the same image through the aspx page (same url), for one client the image is gotten out of the db, for the nine others it is cached.When we use a HttpHandler, this doesn't happen. The image is always fetched from the database. We have tried all different settings without any success. (we have checked this link and have not been able to cache on server side).

I have a website that's in Classic ASP on a hosted server. I'd like to be able to create some "virtual" pages so I can specify google-friendly URLs that translate to ASPs [URL] this_is_the_help_page instead of [URL]admin/helpsubsystem/help.aspx?current_user etc As the server also supports ASP.NET - could I use an HTTP Handler to intercept these calls and do any necessary translations?

I have with working with Visual Studio for a while, and using it's web server. I decided I needed IIS 7 for testing certain features. I installed, but I get an error
The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME mapI've googled and been able to figure out that aspx pages are not enabled by default, but I can't find the proper method to fix this.

We have a mid-sized asp.net project that we just promoted from our dev server (Windows 2003) to an external test server (Windows 2008 R2). On the test server, IIS is not finding our home page, which is located in the views/home folder (404 error). As far as we can tell, the settings are the same on both servers. I've confirmed HTTP redirection is installed. Is there perhaps some critical configuration we may have missed on IIS7.5 to let it know where to find the view and/or home page?

I have signed up with Janrain Engage to incorporate its free widget based openID. But i can't figure out what values to put in the C# code behind. They have provided with a C# helper class, the one below:
using System;
using System.Collections;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.IO;
[code]...
Forgive me but i'm not a master of C#, but i can't figure out where to put the values for the apiKey and the token_url. Also if a user signs in how to display the username as derived from the accounts he is using to sign up, Google or Yahoo! for example.Also there is no sign out option provided.

I spent the better part of today hunting down an elusive error. I was getting a message saying that it couldn't find the Index view for the Home controller, and it gave a list of locations it searched, e.g., ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx. This was really confusing as the file definitely existing and was at ~/Views/Home/Index.aspx, the first place in the list of locations it searched for the view!
What I eventually discovered was that there was a file that did not get published when I used Visual Studio's "Publish" feature (this is on the "Build" menu). That file was Views/Home/Home.master, and (as you can probably guess) is the master file used by Views/Home/Index.aspx. Once I copied that file into place manually, it started working. But I am left wondering--why??? Why does this file not get published? It's a part of my project, I can see it in the solution explorer, and it's obviously a critical file that's necessary for the MVC app to run. It has the same permissions as every other file in my project. So why wouldn't it get copied? And how can I fix it so it does get copied?

I am using VS2008 and want to display a login page with a background image. If I add the image to the page's body and name the page login1.aspx, it displays fine. However, when I change the name to login.aspx, I can see the background in design mode, but the background image does not display when run (debug or otherwise).
I try the same thing using a div or asp:panel and get the same results. I read a post where someone else was having similar problems; however, no answer was given other than blaming VS2005.

I have a gridview that displays pending cases. I have enabled paging and sorting on any column. By default it loads data sorted by CreatedDate. When I sort it on any page by company name it does the sorting, but when I move to the next page, it looses sorting by CompanyName. How do I hold the sorting across all the pages on the grid?

Page A loads very fast; Page B loads very slowly and does some CPU-intensive things on the web server. I noticed that if someone is loading Page B, then Page A also loads slowly - for ALL users. What is the standard practice for making sure this doesn't happen? If multiple users are loading Page B at the same time then Page A is ridiculously slow. Is there an IIS setting, web.config setting, or hardware configuration I could use to make sure that the fast-loading pages aren't bogged down by other pages that need more time to load?

First off, suggest better ways if you want rather than patch up this code. I am just starting this project and it is first time I have tried to code a web site so anything you suggest is very much welcomed. I have spent the last 2 and 1/2 days trying to find workable answers to this but none I have found and tried seem to fit. If needed I can email screens shots or code. I am trying to construct a website that will have the same main theme throughout as far as the header, navbars sitemap, and footer go. Naturally the content will vary from page to page. I want to use a single master page and css stylesheet for this main theme and I will change the content format as needed per page because each page may vary somewhat.
However, about 15 of the pages will all use the same format for their content and this format will differ from the rest of the site but the format of the main theme will stay the same. So I am trying to create a nested master page to use to format the just the content area for all these pages while retaining the main theme for the header, etc.. I believe I should use a separate css file with the nested master page to handle the formatting of the content areas for these 15 pages. I have code that looks like it works when viewed in web developer but design view but does not work when viewd through a browser (IE, Chrome, Firefox). So far I have the following done in web developer.
If it helps the code and screen shots follow. Master Page called "Parent.master". For all theme throughout site Nested Master Page called "Lab.master". For the 15 like pages Primary stylesheet file for main theme called "StylesheetNew.css" For site theme Secondary stylesheet file to syle the 15 like formatted pages. It is called Labmaster.css Labs.apsx file to use as first of the 15 like pages.
Finally screens shots from web developer and browser. Sorry try as I might I could not capture screenshots and put them into this post. The problem is that web developer shows all the area (many lines high) with gray background and with the XXX text that I want to allocate for content in the 15 pages. Yet all the browser show is one line of text o a white background followed by the footer. It looks like the LabStyleSheet works in Web Developer but not in a browser.

In an ASP.NET application, I need to do some changes on every CSS file sent.So I created an HttpHandler (inside the app itself), added:
<add verb="*" path="*.css" type="MyWebsite.CssTestHandler,MyWebsite"/>
to Web.config in system.web/httpHandlers and modified the handler like this:
public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context)
{
context.Response.Clear();
text.Response.Write("Hello World");
context.Response.End();
}

I have created a HttpHandler to be used with SWFUpload to upload images to the server. This upload is done in an administration backend so users need to be authenticated to upload images.Initially I made the whole administration area deny annonymous users but because of the way SWFUpload appears to work it wouldn't work correctly with Forms authentication and would return a 302 status code.I had thought it would be possible to make the location of my handler public in Web.config and use context.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated in my handler to determine if the user is logged in.
