I have a form in a MS AJAX ModalPopup Extender, which is in a UpdatePanel (for async loading). Everything works as expected. There is one thing that I am trying to do but not sure how to do it.
On form submission, there is server side validation on top of client side validation. My question is: what is the best way to display validation error messages if any? It would be ideal if the messages could be written to the popup asynchronously so that the popup is still there.
If this is not possible, I am thinking of displaying the messages using the JavaScript alert box.

I used a modelPopupExtender to make a screen freeze. after the saving i do an response.redirect to the same page but when i do that i could see the panel saving again before reload.
here is the code
[Code]....
on Code Behind when finished button clicked i do show the next view from the multiview as well as the New button. inside the finished button click event i do mpeScreenFreez.Hide(); to hide the popupExtender. When i response.redirect i could see the panFreeze panel poping up just before relaod.

I am using UpdatePanel control with two textboxes and a button inside ASP.NET AJAX ModelPopupExtender control to insert records in database. Everything is working fine, When user click Add button on Form ModelDialogExtender display insert form user enter data and click Save button and records are inserted in database with AJAX postback means page doesn't flicker and ModelPopupExtender control hide automatically.
So far everything is fine but how can I display an error or success message inside ModelPopupExtender control without closing it. I means if any insert error occur I want to display error so that user can give correct data and if there is no error I want to display "records saved successfully" inside ModelPopupExtender.

I've built this app that displays employee photos stored in several sharepoint folders. It also displays the employee name extracted from the file name and a previous and next button to move through the photos.
The markup is surrounded by an update panel to prevent the entire page from reloading when you click to view the next photo.
The app is working fine in firefox, but the images do not display in IE8. Can anyone tell what is causing this?
public List<string> photoFileList = new List<string>();
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!IsPostBack)
{
Session["index"] = 0;

ix a ASP.NET website that works in IE6, to work in IE8 browser. I added the EmulateIE7 http header to IIS6 as short term fix, but still the pages are not displayed correctly. the web app was initially designed and developed for IE6, now we are upgrading to IE8, so is there any quick fix available for IE6 website to display correctly in IE8? I thought the EmulateIE7 works for both IE7 and previous versions as well, is that not correct?

I'm very new in web programming stuff, so my question is about basics. I'm developing a SilverLight application and need to access the database from it. I'm using LINQ to SQL to get data from database and a WFC web service to deliver it to my app. Everything is working fine when I'm running my app within Visual Studio. When trying to publish the web service to IIS - the web service call fails. To make my question simple, I will focus on a brand new web service. Here the steps I'm doing:
Start Visual Studio 2008 -> File -> New -> Project -> Web -> WCF Service Application
Project Name: MyWcfService
Resulting Visual Studio generates a sample project with implemented Web Service "Service1"
Rebuild, start from Visual Studio (host on ASP.NET Development server)
--> Everything works fine, I see my service under http://localhost:52489/Service1.svc link
Now I want to host this service on my IIS (I've IIS7 on Vista x86 PC)
Visual Studio -> right click Project -> Publish -> target location -> Create new web app named "MyWcfService" -> Publish
Just to be sure check my C:inetpubwwwroot folder - now it contains the "MyWcfService" subdirectory with all required files.
Open IE on my PC http://localhost/MyWcfService/Service1.svc
The result is:
HTTP Error 404.3 - Not Found
The page you are requesting cannot be served because of the extension configuration. If > the page is a script, add a handler. If the file should be downloaded, add a MIME map. I were trying to remove "identity" section from web.config - same problem. Switching off the firewall does not help either.

Trying to debug on a client machine running XP and VS2008 and the app works ok running on Cassini, however when I select IIS I am getting a 403 forbidden error. The paging is working fine here, the problem is I don't know how it works, because when I put a break point and a logger in the GetCustomers method, I found that parameters maximumRows and startRowIndex are always 0, 0.
I have no clue why StartRowIndexParameterName, and MaximumRowsParameterName are created and how they are used. If they are used in custom mode, so how to enter that mode?

I have set up the SMTP email and it works flawlessly on one site both in my development environment and on production server. On second website (dev environ) I have email working for forgotten password, so no problems so far.
I added code to send a verification email where a link needs to be clicked to active the logon credentials. I got this to work from a remote computer testing against my SMTP server.
Now I am back on my development server and I can not get the email to send even though the password recovery email works fine.
Code behind of registration.aspx wizard is below....
[Code]....
This is the only real difference between the Password Recovery and the New Client registration wizard. The Verify.aspx link doesn't even come into play here since the email never gets sent.

I have a ValidationExpression that works fine in IE8 and Firefox but client uses IE6 and it doesn't seem to work for them. The issue concerns special characters in a password text box, the clients wants to be able to INCLUDE special characters but IE6 doesn't seem to pick them.
Basically we want to be able to include any letter (upper and lower case) , any number and any special character. This is what I've got so far...
ValidationExpression="^(?=.*d)(?=.*[a-zA-Z]).{8,}$"
Like I said,
test123*
works ok on IE8 but IE6 doesn't seem to pick up special chars so thinks it's only 7 characters long..

I am using the following statement to register the ajax functions:
Ajax.Utility.RegisterTypeForAjax(typeof(ProductInfo));
Here, 'ProductInfo' is a class inside an asmx file, which have certain methods that get called from javascript.The code functions well on my local and the dev server, however does not work on the QA server. When we browse the site in the QA server, and try selecting a value from a drop down list, which should use the ajax function to populate another drop downlist, I get the error "ProductInfo does not exist"One difference (don't know how much that contributes to the problem) between the dev and QA server is that, there are 2 servers on QA that are load balanced.

I have an asp.net ajax updatePanelAnimationExtender that is used to fade a save confirmation message, which looks like this:
<ajaxToolkit:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender ID="UpdatePanelAnimationExtender2" runat="server" TargetControlID="uppExp">
<Animations>
<OnUpdated>
<Sequence>
<Parallel duration=".5">
<HideAction AnimationTarget="pnlSuccess" Visible="True" />
</Parallel>
<Parallel duration=".25" Fps="30">
<FadeOut AnimationTarget="pnlSuccess" />
</Parallel>
</Sequence>
</OnUpdated>
</Animations>
</ajaxToolkit:UpdatePanelAnimationExtender>
It works great the first time it runs, but after that, on subsequent saves it does not run. This only happens in Internet Explorer (7 and 8) it works fine in Firefox and Chrome.

My XSLT was compiled via xsltc, the performance is hugely improved. However, I am wondering how the compiled XSLT works on IIS? Will there any cached of the compiled XSLT instance on the IIS after 1st JIT'ing. As I am seeing my page slightly slow in response from server, but if the page after being called once, subsequent access to the page will faster. So I am suspecting all the transformation processes was not cached for long time on server side.

I got my autocomplete extender working perfect on our old 2000 server running IIS 5.0. When I attempt it on server 2003 IIS 6.0, there is no autocomplete effect taking place. I have the same DLL's toolkit and system.web.extensions in the bins and even ran the msi installer on both. And servers are .net 2.0.

I've followed the standard example of in
http://www.asp.net/ajax/ajaxcontroltoolkit/samples/autocomplete/autocomplete.aspx which demonstrates using AutoCompleteExtender. Everything works fine but the auto-complete appears with about 20 pixel distance below the bottom of its target control. I mean they are not glued to each other as they should be. I've not changed anything and also I've not applied any special styling using CSS or anything else. why this ugly distance is formed while the control is rendered.

I was looking over the Create a Movie Database Application in 15 Minutes with ASP.NET MVC (C#), and it used entity framework and I saw this code.
[Code]....
I am just wondering, does this mean, this code actually downloads ALL the data from the SQL server for that table, and then filters where the Id matches, and then is stored in the var originalMovie? I have seen the "Linq to SQL", does this send this as sql query to the SQL server, and therefore only the relavent rows are returned from SQL server?
