i am developing application , from the start it a data base driven application .
I want to know 1) Is Oracle provider support entity framework
2) I have three option from where i can start
1) ERD digram
2) Class digram
3) Entity Data Model the Model-First Way (mean create Entity model first and then from data model create data base and so on )
We have been really tired lately dealing with all bugs that comes out of ODP.Net and the lag time to bring out any new product out. I am looking for ado.net provider for oracle and looking for the following:
1. Entity Framework
2. Linq
3. Good support (in case we run into issues)
4. Quick response to open issues
5. Quick updates and new releases
I looked at datadirect and dotConnect by DevArt...But I am not sure if any one is better than other.
Can I use oracle 9i or 11g database with Entity Framework?

View 1 RepliesI'm working with Visual Studio 2010 and for Data Connections am connecting to a SQL Server 2000 production database. When I try to drag a table to a .dbml file, the Object Relational Designer says, "The selected object(s) use an unsupported data provider." If I try to create an .edmx file via Generate from database, then the alert is, "This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later."
So VS 2010 has no support for the Data Entity Framework or LINQ when connecting to a SQL Server 2000 database? If that is the case, what is the best data access strategy for this scenario?

I'm trying to use the Entity Framework with a Firebird database in Visual Studio 2010
Useful info:
Windows 7 64-bit
Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate
Firebird 2.5.0
Firebird .Net Data Provider 2.6
DDEX 2.0.5
I've done:
Installed Firebird server (and it works and I can connect to a database) Downloaded DDEX (I've run the registry files) used the gacutil on the FirebirdSql.Data.FirebirdClient.dll and checked that it indeed was installed and it was Modyfied the machine.config for both 2.0 and 4.0 in 32-bit and 64 bit folders to include the provider in the element When I try to add a connection in the server explorer I choose "Firebird Data Source" and the Firebird data provider and press continue. I the "Add Connection" dialog window I fill in the info "data source, database, user, password.." and press ok and then I get the following error:
Failed to find or load the registered .Net Framework Data Provider Also when I try to add a new Entity Data Model I cannot see the Firebird option.. I can only see SQL options. I really need help on this one as I've spent many hours on this and I cannot get it to work.. I've also read other related questions on SO,

View 5 RepliesWe have a site that is runnig II7 64 bit with the oracle .net 64 bit provider, when I try and open this in web developer 2010 express (I'm running windows 7 pro 64bit) it says it can't load the oracle dll as its an incorrect format. I got the impress that web developer 2010 was 64bit capable.
Ofcourse this is extremly annoying as I don't get any syntax formatting for the project or intellisense.
When I try to insert a record, I get this error : The underlying provider failed on Open.

I have a db connection string 'ApplicationServices' defined in the connectionString section of web.config and 3 Entity Framework connection strings which have the provider connection string attribute with the same connection string as the one in 'ApplicationServices'. Is there a way to reference connectionString in 'ApplicationServices' for the provider connection string attribute of the EF connection string in the web.config, rather than providing the connection string all over again?

I get an cast exception when i am trying to insert an entity in Entity Framework (using code-first). From this code :

I am mapping a stored procedure to an entity by right clicking on the entity (in the .edmx) and selecting "Stored Procedure Mapping." This brings you to a Mapping Details - "Name of Entity" Window that allows you to select the insert, update, and delete stored procedures associated with the Entity. It also maps the stored procedure parameter to the Entity "Property" (Column).
I'm gettin an error "error 2042: Parameter Mapping specified is not valid." The cause of the error is fairly obvious, in the Insert stored procedure that has been selected, a 'CHAR' parameter is being mapped to an Int32 Entity Property. I altered the stored procedure parameter to match the entity, I deleted the stored procedure, readded, and reslected it as the Insert function. I also cleaned, validated, updated model from database. No matter what I do, the parameter list in the mapping details doesn't reflect the change to the stored procedure. It's stuck on a char --> int32 mapping, even though it has been changed, like it's buried deep in meta data some where.

I have a stupid problem with the Entity Framework. I get the following Exception:

I have an entity with a 4 fields representing the primary key. I copy it via serialization (works fine). I set the old entity to not valid (Datefield set to a date in the past, this field is part of the PK) and set the copied entity to DateTime.Now.Date. When I call context.AddObject I get the Exception above. I tried copying the entity via reflection but the entity has 3-4 references. And when copied, I get another Exception before even Adding the entity to the context. I also tried setting newObj.EntityKey = null and reset all the fields neccessary for the PK. I just want a whole copy of an entity with a different primary key (and some other fields changed too) and Create it in the database.
I'd like to know if there are any good EF providers for Oracle out there, and more specifically what experiences people have had with them. We're looking for a provider that is either free or paid for, but I'm struggling a bit with finding any real opinions on what the different frameworks are like to work with in a production environment.
EDIT,I should clarify that we are using Oracle 11g.

View 3 RepliesI have an Events table and an InstallmentPlans table. The relationship is 0..1 : an Event can have 0 or 1 Installment plans. If I want to remove the existing InstallmentPlan for an event, how do I do this? Setting it to null doesn't seem to work:
