View 5 Repliesi have following entities as you see BudgetPost has a composite primary key which is a foreign keys to entities Category and Budget. My question is what is the best way to make CRUD? Is there any way to mapp the foreign keys? The simple insert should look like this:
Budget newBudget = new Budget();
newBudget.BudgetName = textBox1.Text;
newBudget.FromDate = dateTimePicker1.Value;
newBudget.ToDate = dateTimePicker2.Value;
newBudget.BudgetPosts.Add(new BudgetPost { FKBudgetID = newBudget.BudgetID, FKCategoryID = 21, BudgetAmount = 700 });
db.AddToBudgets(newBudget);
db.SaveChanges();
Why do we need to have Composite Primary Key
Can't we set one column as Primary and others as Unique key.
I have a table with composite primary key and this key includes two values referring to two other tables. Now I need to implement Edit feature for this Original Table but I wanted to have dropdown lists while editing pointing to look up tables(composite key values are primary keys for two lookup tables). for eg.
Table1(table1_primarykey, table1_field1)
Table2(table2_primarykey, table2_field1)
Table3( table1_primarykey,table2_primarykey, table3_field1) - composite primary key
while editing I wanted to display table1_field1, table2_field1 instead of original primary keys as numbers in Dropdowns.
I am developing asp.net MVC3 application and I have following entity
This entity has composite key (CreditRegistryId and Accoubnt No are primary keys). CreditRegistryId is a foreign key as well. How can I make composite key and foreign key. I am using DbContext API from EF 4.1. I am not using edmx ( ORM designer)
[code]...
I have a table where a primary key is a composite key build from columns: phone_nr and phone_ext.
How do you put a KeyAttribute in a Model in this case?
When a primary key is one column in a Model I coded:
[Key]
public string category_name { get; set; }
public string user_id { get; set; }
in the above case the column category_name is the primary key, but what to do when you have a composite primary key?
I've created a new ASP.NET website. I've generated an Entity Data Model from my database and have dropped a entitydatasource and gridview onto my page and wired up the gridview to pull from the entitydatasource. Now I get columns like this: id extension prefix did_flag len ten_id restriction_class_id sfc_id name_display building_id floor room phone_id department_id
In each case where the item is named something_id this reflects a foreign key relationship in the database - and I did choose to have the EDM expose foreign key relationships. I'd like to make it so the gridview pulls in the values for these foreign keys rather than just showing the ID numbers - so, for example, department_id might have a value of "101" right now but it should pull from the department table "Marketing".
1 - Is it necessary to have foreign key to obtain a Relation in Entity Framework between each entity.?
2 - I have a Language Table and many many table with a foreign key related to the language table. Is it right to add this foreign key or I should do something else ?
Ex:
Language
LangID
LangName
TableTextA
TblAID
TextInfo
LangID
TableTextB
TblBID
TextInfo
LangID
TableTextC
TblCID
TextInfo
LangID
etc ...
I m try to insert record to table, its working well without foreignkey using Entity model. But i need to insert foreign key. I used the following query, its not working well via Entity model.
objFacility.FacilityCategoryReference.EntityKey =
new System.Data.EntityKey("testEntities.test",
"id", 10);
How can I give set foreign key value field in Entity Framework. I have Kartlar entity (related from kartlar table). I need simple save method this field but, RehberID, KAmpanyaId,BirimID is foregin Key....
public static class SatisServicesUpdateTables
{
public static void SaveKartlar(int RehberID, int KampanyaID, int BrimID)
{
using (GenSatisModuleEntities genSatisKampanyaCtx = new GenSatisModuleEntities())
{
Kartlar kartlar = new Kartlar();
kartlar.RehberReference.EntityKey = new System.Data.EntityKey("genSatisKampanyaCtx.Rehber", "ID", RehberID);
kartlar.KampanyaReference.EntityKey = new System.Data.EntityKey("genSatisKampanyaCtx.Kampanya", "ID", KampanyaID);
kartlar.BirimReference.EntityKey = new System.Data.EntityKey("genSatisKampanyaCtx.Birim", "ID", BrimID);
kartlar.Notlar = "hfhfhfhfhfhfghfghfgfghk";
genSatisKampanyaCtx.AddToKartlar(kartlar);
genSatisKampanyaCtx.SaveChanges();
}
}
}
But it throws to me : ArgumentException was unhandled by user code link text
how to handle foreign keys with Entity Framework, when editing or adding a new record. For example, I have a person table, which has a timezone_id linking to my timezone table.
But the model seems to not include timezone_id. I see it's a new way of doing things, but ... how do I store my record?
My method:
[code]...
I can't do u.timezone_id = timezoneid;
I only have u.timezone (which seems to be the actual entity), and u.timezoneReference, which I am not sure what to do with.
I have 2 tables Departments {ID, DeptCode (PK), SubDeptCode (PK)} and Employee {ID, Name (PK), DeptID (PK & FK to ID in Deparments)}.
Both ID fields are declare as UNIQUE and incremental identity. It works fine in sql server 2000 but EF won't map the relation in my app.
i am developing application , from the start it a data base driven application .
I want to know 1) Is Oracle provider support entity framework
2) I have three option from where i can start
1) ERD digram
2) Class digram
3) Entity Data Model the Model-First Way (mean create Entity model first and then from data model create data base and so on )
I developed and entity framework (.edmx) application in 4.0 in that i got all the data of my querying table and its foreign key referenced tables data also. but when i change my project to 3.5 i am unable to get the data of foreign key referenced tables data.
View 2 RepliesUsing a very run-of-the-mill database, with identity int for primary keys, a Dynamic Data Entities Project (EntityFramework) displays the primary key for view and edit. When using Linq to Sql, the primary key fields are not displayed.
I would like to hide the primary keys and use Entity Framework (VS 2008, .Net 3.5 sp1).
Adding data into kartlar table (RehberID,KampanyaID,BrimID) is ok. But which Kart'ID created? I need to learn which Id created after adding data (RehberID,KampanyaID,BrimID) into Kartlar?
[code]...
How can I do that? I want to get data from Kartlar which data I added?
I have a gridview displaying "registrationtype id" (FK) from the registration table. I want it to display the related name instead of the id from the registartiontype table.
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to insert a new EF object containing a reference to a related table via foreign key, and cannot get the reference stored in the new object. I have two tables in a SQL Server 2008 Database:
Component Templates
PartGroups
with a Foreign Key linking them thus: ComponentTemplates:ID [0..1<->*] PartGroups:ComponentTemplateID
I have imported these tables into a .NET web application project .edmx file (using a new ADO.NET Entity Data Model), and then created a Data Service which I then reference in a Silverlight 3.0 project. The objects are available as expected in the data context called by my Silverlight app and load correctly. Now, when I try to save a reference of ComponentTemplate into a newly created PartGroup, the PartGroup object is created in the database, but the value of ComponentTemplateID in the newly created table record is NULL.
[Code]....
(Note that _ctCtrl.ComponentTemplate is a confirmed non-NULL object reference to the parent object on which PartGroup is a child)
I'm working with Visual Studio 2010 and for Data Connections am connecting to a SQL Server 2000 production database. When I try to drag a table to a .dbml file, the Object Relational Designer says, "The selected object(s) use an unsupported data provider." If I try to create an .edmx file via Generate from database, then the alert is, "This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 or later."
So VS 2010 has no support for the Data Entity Framework or LINQ when connecting to a SQL Server 2000 database? If that is the case, what is the best data access strategy for this scenario?
I have a table defnition as given below:
License
ClientId
Type
Total
Used[code]....
If a client used a license to create a user, I need to update the Used column in the table. As I set ClientId column as the id column for this table in the mapping xml, I am getting TooManyRowsAffectedException. how to set a composite key at mapping level so that NHibernate can udpate based on ClientId and Type.
Something like: Update License SET Used=Used-1 WHERE ClientId='xxx' AND Type=1
I have asp.net app where I am using gridview for data showing, editing and deleting. Now I want to delete or edit record from table and I need to pass 3 cols in DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"colName"). how i can do this?
EDITED
Basically when i need to update or delete record from asp.net app, I have to pass values of 3 columns (which are composite keys) to my UDF. Now How I can pass 3 different values to DataBinder.Eval() and reading them in GridView Rowcommand event.
I am learning custom controls and just finished my first one. The problem is that I am struggling to register it in my web config and have the compiler recognize it. Right now this results in a YSOD about the reference to the control.

The link below shows a listview composite control in its most basic form however I can't seem to extend this to what I'm trying to do.
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/92689/how-to-define-listview-templates-in-code
My listview has 1 tablerow with 2 fields. The first field contains 1 element whilst the second field contains 2 elements as shown below.
<asp:ListView ID="lstArticle" runat="server">
<LayoutTemplate>
<table id="itemPlaceholder" runat="server"> [code].....
I am creating a composite control that has a textbox and uses a jquery plugin to add a watermark. Lets say I have a basic function that looks like this
$(function () {$('#MyTextBoxID').watermark('Enter your username');});
Can anyone suggest what I need to do to insert the above?
I'd like to have a div as a canvas, where users would choose images to show, out of a list. They will choose what background it would have, icons, and they will upload an image which will appear in this canvas too.I'm looking for solutions in PHP or ASP.NET.
