ADO.NET :: Linq To SQL In Web Project / BC30002: Type 'EntityRef' Is Not Defined

Aug 10, 2010

I have an ASP.NET 3.5 solution which has 2 projects in it: class library (data access) and the web project. The project has now changed and requires me to change the design and only have one project and move the class library into the web project. I have successfully moved most of the class library into the App_Code folder I created but continue to get an error when I run the program. The error is in regards to the Linq to SQL classes or dbml file. I continue to get a error:

Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'EntityRef' is not defined.
Line 868: Private _CreateDate As Date
Line 869:
Line 870: Private _Code As EntityRef(Of Code)
Line 871:
Line 872: Private _Lab As EntityRef(Of Lab)

I have changed the dbml file to use the new connection string and modified any code behind by searching all the files in my project. But continue to receive this message. I've removed all the references to my old project and also removed any old .dll's which could have had references to it and continue to have the problem. Is there maybe a reference in my project I am missing or something else simple I have overlooked?

I should also mention when I move the .dbml file outside the App_Code folder (root of the website) and right click the project and select Convert to Web Application it works just fine.

used wsdl.exe to create a .cs class for my wsdl service connection.I made a Visual Studio project to compile the .cs into a dll having namespace CalculatorService (CalculatorService.dll).I created an asp.net project added my namespace import:%@ Import Namespace="CalculatorService" %I right-clicked on the project, clicked Add Reference, found my .dll, added it, built the project, checked /bin to ensure my dll was there (and it was). All is well LOCALLY while debugging. It found the CalculatorService, connected to it, got the XML and displayed it.

2.0 Compilation Error BC30002 Type Is Not Defined

Jul 12, 2010

First of all, let me explain the situation, I know this is a bit complicated.
And I apologize for my poor English.I have created a dll library which contains the classes I created.I tested the library with Console Application and web site created with Visual Studio 2005,everything works fine.So I copied the dll to the "Bin" folder of a running ASP.NET 2.0 web site, added reference to the dll file, imported the namespace, then trying to initiate instances of objects in the dll.

When Assigning Values To EntityRef ID Fields In Linq To Sql, Can EntityRef Still Delay Load

Jul 28, 2010

I've got an ASP.NET MVC app that uses Linq to Sql for data access. Say I have two objects: An Order object that has a foreign key to a Customer object by CustomerID. So, in my Order class, you would see two properties: an int CustomerID field, and an EntityRef member accessible by a Customer property. When the edits or submits an Order, my MVC app will update the CustomerID field directly of the Order class, instead of updating the Customer property. This saves us from having to fetch a customer record, and I can use the default model binding code to fill the property automatically as long as the submitted form request has a customerID entry

DataSource Controls :: The Type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' Is Defined In An Assembly That Is Not Referenced?

May 28, 2010

I have a strange problem. I am adding a LinqDatasource object, and set the context:

[Code]....

Then I get this error:The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

On web.config I already have this:

<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>

NOTE: The datacontext is in a different project (DLL proect) where I added a refernce to System.Data.Linq.

is there another way adding a refernce to a web project? or only though teh web.config?

Can't Convert System / Use Its Own Pre Defined Type?

Jan 14, 2010

So, I've been programming for a number of years. Finding some intricately asinine issues w/ ASP.NET and VB.NET as I learn them. How about this one:

[Code]....

The issue is not Date1
The issue is Date2.

No kidding. I had to String.Format Date1 for some odd reason, even though I'd already validated it. And, yes, I tried to parse and convert Date1 but I kept gettting the typical "Argument 'Date2' cannot be converted to type 'Date'." error. (Did you catch the copy & paste? I didn't edit it from my existing error, but Date2 should be Date1.) Yeah, that's the error I'm getting now with the above ...

"Argument 'Date2' cannot be converted to type 'Date'."

Date2 is a system defined type. Why can't the system convert and/or simply use it's own pre-defined type?

C# - Converting A Website Project Type To A Regular Project

Jun 20, 2010

I've created a new vs.net project and added all the files from an asp.net website project.

When I compile, it couldn't find a reference to a class.

In the AppCode the class was defined, but without a namespace.

So I added a namespace, and then on the default.aspx.cs (this is where the error was originating) I added the using statement.

The using statement was not picking up the namespace.

Reference The DisplayTemplates Defined In An Area From Main Project?

Jun 11, 2010

I defined a few display templates for classes and they work well when I put them in views/shared/DisplayTemplates. However after I move them into an area, looks like ASP.NET MVC won't look inside Area to find the templates. How to reference the DisplayTemplates defined in an Area from main project? Is that a good practise?

DataSource Controls :: How To Cast Concrete Type Created In LINQ Query To The Corresponding Interface Type

May 3, 2010

I have an Interface that has its concrete class defined via a factory. Because of this I found no way to use the Interface tpye directly in my LINQ quesry so I had to use the concrete class types to creat a generic list. The LINQ query works but after calling.ToList() on the LINQ query result I get a List(of MyConcreteClass), but I need a List(of IMyConcreteClass). I have tried everything I can find: .Cast, Ctype, implicit casting, etc. but I always get back one of the (2) messages (depending on if I attempt to cast)message:

"Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[MyConcreteClass]' to type 'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1[IMyConcreteClass]'."
...or
"Unable to cast object of type '<CastIterator>d__aa`1[IMyConcreteClass]' to type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[MyConcreteClass]'."

Here is the sample code:
