creating Linq query in return statement
I want to use "if statement" in Linq query. How can I do this situation?
For example:
if txtAge.Text=="", I will not use that in Linq Query.
else txtAge.Text!="", I will use that in Linq Query.
My application includes BUILDING table with columns BUILDING_ID, NAME, TOWN_ID, I run the LINQ query listed below and need to append two letters to buildings.NAME based on TOWN_ID. I assume that I need to place an "if" or "select" statement inside the query but I can not figure out how to do that,

I am consuming an RSS feed to display on my website using a repeater control. I was wondering if it's possible in VB to return an anonymous type from my linq query rather than a collection of strongly typed RSSItems. I know this is possible in C#, however haven't been able to work out a VB equivalent.

Is there a way opf getting the first value from a linq query so for example
[Code]....
I have this code in my controller:
public ActionResult Details(int id)
{
using (var db = new MatchGamingEntities())
[code]...
i have a Linq query that check something in database
after that i want to check if record find in database or not
dim re = From r in db.mytable _
where r.ID = _ID
Select r
how can i check the re return somthing or empty
I have a array list and am using like a database trying to search for ChildID and ParentID based on certain criteria.
My example below has the following keywords to search for:
Yellow, Mustard, Honey, Orange, Flame, Talisman
I also have a category volume value which I grab the first 2 characters to determine another filter.
My code isn't returning all matches with using 'Contains'. Right now it finds the 'Orange, Flame, Talisman'/AV record and returns 50, 28. My keywords also has 'Yellow, Mustard, Honey'/AV which should return 55 and 28 as well.
HTML Code:
<%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="temp2.aspx.vb" Inherits="temp2" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

I am trying to fill a gridview with the data from Product table selecting few columns . I am using 3 - tier architecture and in DAL getproduct(userid) I am writing the query but cannot figure out exactly how to get that working .. here is piece of method I wrote
public List<Project> GetProjectList(int ownerId)
I have this code in my controller:
public ActionResult Index()
{
MembershipUser currentUser = Membership.GetUser();
Guid UserId = (Guid)currentUser.ProviderUserKey;
using (var db = new MatchGamingEntities())
{
var MyAccount = from m in db.Accounts..........
I want to be able to do a join query between my two tables Accounts and BankTransactions. This is a one to many relationship, there can be multiple BankTransactions per Account. I want to query this and display the account information including all the bank statements that are associated with it. I did a join in order to get it, but I am having trouble handling the model. I keep getting this error:
LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.Collections.Generic.List1[MatchGaming.Models.BankTransaction] ToList[BankTransaction](System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable1[MatchGaming.Models.BankTransaction])' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression.
I am having trouble with this I have 3 Data tables i use over and over again which are cached I would like to write a LINQ statement which would do the following is this possible?
T-SQL VERSION:
SELECT P.[CID],P.[AID]
,B.[AID], B.[Data], B.[Status], B.[Language]
FROM MY_TABLE_1 P
JOIN
(
SELECT A.[AID], A.[Data], A.[Status], A.[Language] FROM MY_TABLE_2 A
UNION ALL
SELECT B.[AID], B.[Data], B.[Status], B.[Language] FROM MY_TABLE_3 B
) B on P.[AID] = B.[AID]
WHERE B.[Language] = 'EN' OR B.[Language] = 'ANY' AND B.STATUS = 1 AND B.[Language] = 'EN' OR B.[Language] = 'ANY' AND B.STATUS = 1
Then i would like it to create a result set of the following
Results:
|CID|AID|DATA|STATUS|LANGUAGE
I'm looking to translate an SQL query into linq
INNER JOIN Usrs ON
SAQ.UserId =
Usrs.UserId AND Scan.UserId =
Users.UserId
I'm not sure how to include the "AND" in the LINQ statement.
Is it possible to use return statement in try block?.How,What is the use of the statement.
View 5 RepliesHere is the deal. I need to create a Stored Procedure that has 2 SELECT statements. Now in ASP.NET, I know that a DataSet can have multiple tables and the DataAdapter can do just that. I am stuck with a scenario where I need to get a value from the first SELECT statement which will later be used in the second SELECT statement. I am creating a SP that passes one parameter (@AnswerID). Which should give me 2 resultsets. See below SELECT statements.
[Code]....
So how do I get the QuestionID from the first SELECT statement?
Basically I am creating a Questionnaire that has Question Dependacies. So from the above SQL statements I would like to display the Question Title with it's relevant answer options but depending on the previous Answer selected hence the @AnswerID parameter.
The reason why I want to use 2 SELECT statements is because I don't want to have 2 roundtrips to th server. So in my code the DataAdapter should return 2 resultsets and fill the DataSet.
If there is any another solution that can prevent 2 roundtrips to the server, I would most definitely like to know how to do it.
Here's my problem: I have an IPerson which is implemented by Employee and Student. What I really want is what you see below. One LINQ statement to get each type of IPerson. This works great until I call the method ;). It makes sense as to why I'd get the error, but I am really struggling as to find a decent way to pull all IPerson objects from the DB and avoid putting switch statements all over my application.

Above, there is a commented out return statement - that essentially does a .ToList() and forgoes the whole deferred execution thing, creating 2 SQL statements - not ideal.
I've build a linq query.But i want a random selection so its not always ID : 1,2,3,4,5,6 How can i randomize this var? I like to bind it to a repeater.//TagCloud:
Random rand = new Random();
var tc1 = from i in JumpTide.cms.menu.GetMenuItems(32)
select new

I have a select statement in a stored procedure and want to be able to retrieve the key column value (PRODUCTID)and return it as Output when Select statement is executed on input Parameter (NAME).
addition, return two further output values (COST,TOTAL).
note the grid control expects to receive all values at once! so i need to get out these values at the same instance of execution.
Select productID,COST,QUANTITY,NAME,TOTAL,DATE
FROM PRODUCTS
WHERE NAME=@NAME
I have the following simple stored procedure:
ALTER PROCEDURE GetadiByPhiNo
@PhiNo int
SELECT adirefno, adidescription
FROM aditable
WHERE adiphino = @PhiNo
Here is an example of data returned:
1 Skin diesease
2 Cough
3 Cough
4 Rash
You notice "Cough" is in the adidescription column twice. I would like to return only one row for adidescription with the same value. So what I want returned is this:
1 Skin diesease
2 Cough
4 Rash
select Groupid,GroupName,onorusername from palgroup where groupid in (select distinct Groupid

I am facing a big problem with simple linq query.. I am using EF 4.0..
I am trying to take all the records from a table using a linq query:
var result = context.tablename.select(x=>x);
This results in less rows than the normal sql query which is select * from tablename;
This table has more than 5 tables as child objects (foreign key relations: one to one and one to many etc)..
This result variable after executing that linq statement returns records with all child object values without doing a include statement.. I don't know is it a default behavior of EF 4.0 . I tried this statement in linqpad also..but there is no use... But interesting thing is if I do a join on the same table with another one table is working same is sql inner join and count is same..but I don't know why is it acting differently with that table only.. Is it doing inner joins with all child tables before returning the all records of that parent table?
I am writing a linq query to select a blogpost,
[code]....
The blogpost i am testing got 3 tags attached to it. The table structure is:
(table)BlogPost -> (table)BlogPostTags <- (table)Tags
So the BlogPostTags table only contains 2 fields, BlogPostID and TagID.
When i run the query above i get 3 results back. Same blogpost 3 times but with 1 tag in each. It should return 1 post with 3 tags. The problem lies in the Tags query above.
Is this LINQ statment vulnerable to SQL injection?
var result = from b in context.tests
where b.id == inputTextBox.Text
select b;
where context is an Entity and tests is a table. I'm trying to learn LINQ and I thought that the benefit of it was that it wasn't vulnerable to sql injection, but some stuff I've see has said differently. Would I need to parametrize this LINQ statement to make it safer? If so, How? Also would this be considered linq to sql or linq to entities?
I am new to LINQ. I have a GridView which I am populating using LINQ. My LINQ statement is taking query string from previous page. The query string is in string format. Here is the code:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string getEntity = Request.QueryString["EntityID"];

I am trying to have the collection of order IDs be used in my where statement how come i can't get this to work?
List<int> orders = new List<int>(){1,2,3,4,5};
DataTable dtTable1 = getOrders();
DataTable dtTable2 = getOrderDetails();
var results = from a in dtTable1.AsEnumerable()
join b in dtTable2.AsEnumerable() on a.Field<int>("ID") equals b.Field<int>("ID")
where orders.Contains(b.Field<int>("OrderID"))
select a;
