I need to know how i could insert informations in a table in using linq with EntityDataModel???
I created this user control :

I saw in Internet that I can use the methode InsertOnSubmit but when I do db.Customer.InsertOnSubmit in order to inset the data in the Customers table, the method isn't recognized by the intellisens.

I am doing a data warehouse project.I have two tables tblA (id, type) and tblB(city, no_crimes, type).I want to create (insert) a number of rows based on the value of no_crimes.For Example, in tblB(Leeds, 2000, murder). SO, I need to insert 2000 rows into tblA by a single INSERT statement (not 2000 statements).

I'm trying to study mvc and I have found my self dealing with this problem/ questionI have a DB with the table Customer and I have create a Entity data model (with the table customer).Now I have also made a class name customer and I'm getting an error saying " Missing partial modifier on declaration of type 'MvcSite.Models.Customer'; another partial declaration of this type exists

What I'm trying to do is using this class to write new costumers to the DB , ( I do know how to do so directly , but if I'm not Mistaking using the class is the Correct way to do so (?)If I'm changing the class name to customers , how is it suppose to write back to the DB?

I am working on a web app for an online photo album. It is the last project in Scott Mitchell's book: "ASP.Net 2.0 in 24 hours".
I am creating a page where users can enter new photo images. The functionality for uploading an image will come later. I am working on just inserting a new row into the Pictures table with an optional category, a required title and a required description.
I am getting an error when I try to insert a new row.
Here is a screenshot of the page with a shot of the dropdown list.
The Categories are user-specific. I am getting the correct values retrieved.

There are two pretty simple database tables involved here.
NOTE: The CategoryID and PIctureID are both autoincrement integer columns.

The page uses a DetailsView that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Pictures table. (The DetailsView's Default Mode property is set to "Insert". The "Enable Inserting" checkbox is also checked.)
The dropdown list uses a dropdown control that uses a SqlDataSource that uses the Categories table.
When the "Insert" button is clicked the CategoryID value associated with selected (Category) Name on the dropdown list will be used along with the Title and Description values to insert a row in to the Pictures table. (If no Category value is selected, then a null value will be used for the CategoryID. This is OK because the CategoryID column in the Pictures table allows nulls.)
My problem is that I am getting this error:
Cannot insert explicit value for identity column in table 'Pictures' when IDENTITY_INSERT is set to OFF.
(FYI: I have the full version of both Visual Studio and SQL Server.)

I have two tables - Student and Advert.
I want to do the following;
1. Student is logged into their account (session is authenticated)
2. StudentID is primary key for that table, it is a foreign key for table Advert
3. When student is logged in, they create advert
What I want is their student Id to be input into the advert table when this new advert is created. How is this possible?

I have to find the best way to do this using LINQ. I need to summarize an amount in a iTransaction table by
Account (e.g. 12345) and add that amount to an same Account ( e.g12345) if it exists in a iAccount table . Here is the code which syntax checks ok and tested ok up to the .submitChanges statement (i.e. I stopped and didn't allow the submit.
Following is the LINQ code. (1) Is that a good way to do this. OR should I try the INTERCEPT.

I'm trying to build an asp.net application, where I have three tables.
tblRoute
tblHalte
tblHalteRoute
I want to insert a routeID into tblHalteRoute and for every routeID multiple halteID's
TblRoute has the needed fields (routeID(1) & allHaltes[halteID1,halteID2,halteID3])
--> so Every route has multiple Haltes that I can access by parsing the allHaltes field and using the IDS.
What I want to do is update tblHalteRoute like this
tblRoute.routeID(1), tblRoute.allHaltes(halteID1)
tblRoute.routeID(1), tblRoute.allHaltes(halteID2)
tblRoute.routeID(1), tblRoute.allHaltes(halteID3)
inserting these values into the tblHalteRoute .. I'm really not sure on where to look or how to start, I tried using SUBquerys with an Insert before a select, but no success.

How I can write following SQL query using LINQ. There is no default constraint define for the ID column so we have explicitly pass the NEWID().
I want to replicate the products of a company to another company.
Insert Into Products Select NEWID() AS ProductID, ProductName, CompanyID = @DestinationID, ProductCategoryID From Products Where CompanyID = @SourceID
Also once I get these result how can I use InsertAllOnSubmit to insert all the records at once without looping it.

I have a number of tables that together make up a "Test" that somebody can take. There are multiple types (scripts) of Test a person can take. I'm working on an Edit function that will allow somebody to edit the Test Questions. I want these edited questions to show up on all new Tests of that type, but still show the old questions when viewing past test scores.
To do this each "Test" has a TestId auto-increment identity (along with its name). When a test is edited I want to make a copy of the test with a new TestId and present the questions for editing.
So what is the best way to make the copy and insert it into my table using LINQ to SQL? This:
DataContext db = new DataContext(ConnectionString);
//Copy old test into identical new test but with a different script ID
var oldScript = db.TestScripts.Single(ds => ds.TestScriptId == oldScriptID);
var newScript = oldScript;
db.TestScripts.InsertOnSubmit(newScript);
db.SubmitChanges();
of course tells me that I Cannot add an entity that already exists.
Is the only way to do this to go through every column in the TestScript and copy it manually, then insert it, and the database will give it a new Id?

I have a view on my database and I am trying to add a new record using the AddTo method but it is not working. I noticed that LinqToEntities is creating the insert statement like this
Insert into (select field1, field2 from my_view) (field1, field2) values (value1, value2)
Is it possible to make LinqToEntities create the insert statement like the one below ?
Insert into my_view (field1, field2) values (value1, value2)

Let's say I have a dataset in an ASP.NET website (.NET 3.5) with 5 tables, each has roughly 30,000 rows and an average of 12 columns. I want to insert all of the data from the dataset into 5 very-similar-but-not-quite-identical tables in SQL Server 2008. I also want to use LINQ (personal preference - trying to learn something new).
Is it as simple as iterating through the dataset and, for each row, creating a new instance of the associated class, initializing its data with the dataset's row, adding it to the data model, and then doing one giant SubmitChanges at the end?
Are there better ways of doing this with LINQ? Or is this the de-facto standard?
