I'm using the toolkit AutoComplete Extender to populate a textbox which is used for searching for a string on our website and it works great most of the time.
About a dozen times a day I'll see a "Request forat is unrecognized for URL unexpectedly ending in '/WebServices/AutoComplete/js'" logged in the server event log.
Like I said it works great most of the time.

I have a project in asp.net 4.0 IIS Win 2003 Server.It's working perfectly, but after a while, certain pages are asking to save, instead of open.Ai closing the browser and open the system again, with this back to work, but it's the same problem after a while accessing.

When these occur, the sites will YSOD untill we recycle the application pool. The sites may run for days/weeks before this occurs, or it might happen twice within the hour. I have not been able to pinpoint this to any specific request/function in our system. In this case it points to itextsharp, but it randomly points to any assembly referenced by our application, both internal and external. Running caspol verifies that the DLL has full trust permissions:

Success Our application is running on three servers, two of them are on Server 2008 Web x64 while the third is running Server 2008 R2 Web x64, all have .NET 3.5 installed, no .NET 4.0 installations. The problem only occurs on the first two that are running 2008 non R2. Running depends.exe on all three servers gives equal results for the nonR2 servers:
My DLL is shown as x86 (compiled as AnyCPU, running in x64 w3wp), all other modules show as x64. Missing IESHIMS.DLL and LINKINFO.DLL - both of these seem to be red herrings according to Google. The third server shows the same, except it does not miss LINKINFO.DLL All servers are running IIS7 (7.5 for the R2 one) under a custom domain account that has been granted the necessary permissions:

Load user profile is set to false on all three servers. I've tried setting this to true on one of the faulting servers, according to: [URL] By running processmonitor I can see that it's now using the C:UsersTEMPAppDataLocalTemp directory for various temp files - the other ones are not using any such directory. So far I'll let it run in this way to see if this changes anything. I'm in doubt however given that the third server is not exhibiting the problems, yet still has "Load user profile" set to the same value, false. I've also tried running Fuslogvw on all three servers, logging binding failures to disk. All three servers report the same binding errors for VJSharpCodeProvider and CppCodeProvider, but these seem to be normal as well and can be solved by not defining the DEBUG and TRACE constants during build. We're running about 500 websites on each server (identical, load balanced), of which 50 are under moderate load, the problem has arisen both under heavy load as well as under minimal load however.
Right now I'm waiting for the errors to happen again so I can hopefully see a pattern and determine whether "Load user profile" alleviates the issue. I don't understand how the lack of "Load user profile" would cause an issue like this? And even further, how it would seemingly work on R2 but not on plain 2008?

I am using autocompleteextender to receive list of projects. Is there any way that, given list of projects can hold a hidden values like a dropdownlist? I need project ID as hidden value...so that when I select a project from the list, I can retrieve the ID using C#/ASP.Net.
i'm using visual web developer 2008 express edition, i added the ajax toolkit to the tools without issue. SOME tools, like the accordian (and others) allow me to drag and drop them onto my forms. but others, such as the autocompleteextender wil not allow me to drag and drop them onto a form. i just get a circle with a line through it (as if to say - this is not allowed) - why is that?

I've got an AutoCompleteExtender on one of my pages, it seems to be working fine aside from this strange behaviour: Let's say I key in 2 characters, the suggestion list would display. When I press on backspace to delete those 2 characters, wait until the suggestion list to disappear, and re-enter those 2 characters, the suggestion list would no longer display (or sometimes would flicker for about a second after losing focus from the textbox) and I'll need to refresh the page just to get it working again.
However, if I do press backspace and delete those 2 characters but not let the suggestion list to disappear and re-enter new characters, it would continue displaying with correct suggestions. This behaviour seems to happen only in IE8, (although it works with IE8 using Compatibility View and Firefox)... My code is almost the same as the sample on this site except for the animations, and the service looks up in a database table.

I have this employee page where the seach is done at the very top and I'm using this control ; The formatted name is my search key that I'm doing in my web method. Now when I am deleting an employee and reloading the page...the Formatted name still appears during the page load. I've to close the window and load it again to get the updated employee list.
I am using AjaxAutoCompleteExtender in my asp.net program (C#) . I am applying the extender to a texbox and using internal Web Service. I am getting the desired result, when i am running from the development environment. After Publishing the site to IIS, I am not getting the list and not showing any errors. I have turned off custom errors. My website is not an Ajax Enabled WebSite. I have an AutoCompleteExtender control as below. I have tested the web service and it is working. When I debug, there is no error message of any kind. But when I type in the TextBox1, the auto completion does not work. Does somebody know what could be the cause?

When user enter the key the serach shows the "ProjectNumber-ProjectName" in the search result....after selecting any of this...only ProjectNumber is entered in the textbox (I am using hidden control to store key values)...everything works fine till here.Now I have a problem with values stored in the hidden control...for example in the text box there are three ProjectNumbers ..A,B,C....now I go ahead and delete all these three and enter the key word again...the search work fine but when I select any value the Text box is populated with old value (coming from hidden control) like A,B,C and then new value D

use a textbox and the AutoCompleteExtender to search for the customer. For example, on the PurchaseOrder form, I have a textbox with a Customer field, and when I type in the name of the customer, the AutoCompleteExtender shows the possible matches.Now, it takes a few seconds to show the list of values, even with setting the correct values on the extender, and if the user types in the name of the company, e.g. Contoso, and leaves the textbox, there might be 2 Contoso's in the database. The AutoCompleteExtender does not continue when the user leaves the textbox, thus the CustomerId is not determined yet.
I'm using Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5, on a Vista 64 bit machine. I have a simple application that has 2 textboxes that are both setup with an AutoCompleteExtender. They both work as expected with the following exception only in IE7. The top textbox has the focus by default, I set this in a pageLoad javascript function.

I enter in some text in the top textbox and after 2 characters (MinimumPrefixLength="2") I get the list from my webservice and I've coded it so that once an item from the list is selected it uses the OnClientItemSelected="eventHandlerPnum"to call the javascript function 'eventHandlerPnum' which sets the document.location to a url with the item as a query parameter. This works fine the first time. If I use the back button when I start entering text into the top textbox I get the browser cached entries in a dropdown after the first character and the list from my webservice doesn't show up after the second character.
I've tried this in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari and they all behave correctly, ie they always display the web service list after the second character.
I have quite a problem with a form that contains an autocomplete function. The page is an aspx page with c# codebehind.
On the form there is an address field that the user can type in any string address. This field is using an Ajax autocomplete extender, which roadnames to the user. This works fine. Furthermore the user has the option to add multiple address fields when clicking a button. This works fine now with Jquery. Jquery copies the table which contains, besides other fields, the address field, and "paste" it underneath the existing adress field.
Problem is, how do I attach the Ajax autocomplete extender to the address fields that gets added? Or is there another workaround to make all these fields have this autocomplete function?
When using AutoComplete in google chrome, it seems to have a problem positioning the extender. It seems that the "top" css value of the autoextender isn't being calculated with the scroll position taken into account.

If you scroll down so that the "AutoComplete Demonstration" title is at the top of the browser rendering area, and then type something in the textbox, you will notice that the extender will display at the top of the page instead of just below the textbox.
This is my VERY FIRST experience with AJAX, so be as non-elitist and as clear as possible -- mayve even to the point of talking to me like I'm a child.
GIS programmer add an autocomplete search box to her mapping application. Before I can do that, I need to understand how to do it in a simple place first. I'm working with Visual Studio 2008 on my desktop machine and my website files are on a Windows 2003 Server running IIS 6 to which I have a mapped share called X:. Yesterday, I downloaded the AJAX Control Toolkit and added it to Visual Studio. It shows up in my toolbox and I can add and remove items. Cool. I can start an "ASP.NET Web Application" from Visual C# -> Web and I can drop many controls on the page with design view, but the extenders do not drop there. Particularly, I am interested in the AutoCompleteExtender. If I double-click, nothing happens. If I drag it over the design view, I see a slashed circle. If I add it in the source view, it gets highlighted and I'm told "Element 'AutoCompleteExtender' is not a known element. This can occur if there is a compilation error in the Web site, or the web.config file is missing." The web.config is actually not missing.
I have been told by a friend that I may need to add something to my Web.config to enable AJAX stuff, but he offered nothing else on that. I see a system.webServer section in my Web.config and a comment above it that tells me it is not required for IIS versions earlier than 7.
Also, if I drop a TextBox on my page and try to choose an extender, the AutoCompleteExtender is listed in the Extender Wizard; however, adding it this way ends up with the same result.
