Dec 2, 2010
I have a project in asp.net 4.0 IIS Win 2003 Server.It's working perfectly, but after a while, certain pages are asking to save, instead of open.Ai closing the browser and open the system again, with this back to work, but it's the same problem after a while accessing.

In an ASP.NET WebForms 2.0 site we are encountering an intermittent bug in IE6 whereby a file download attempt results in the contents of the being shown directly in the browser as text, rather than the file save dialog being displayed. Our application allows the user to download both PDF and CSV files. The code we're using is:
HttpResponse response = HttpContext.Current.Response;
response.Clear();
response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename="theFilename.pdf"");
response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
response.BinaryWrite(MethodThatReturnsFileContents());
response.End();
This is called from the code-behind click event handler of a button server control. Where are we going wrong with this approach? Edit Following James' answer to this posting, the code I'm using now looks like this:
HttpResponse response = HttpContext.Current.Response;
response.ClearHeaders();
// Setting cache to NoCache was recommended, but doing so results in a security
// warning in IE6
//response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache);
response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="theFilename.pdf"");
response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
response.BinaryWrite(MethodThatReturnsFileContents());
response.Flush();
response.End();
However, I don't believe that any of the changes made will fix the issue.

When these occur, the sites will YSOD untill we recycle the application pool. The sites may run for days/weeks before this occurs, or it might happen twice within the hour. I have not been able to pinpoint this to any specific request/function in our system. In this case it points to itextsharp, but it randomly points to any assembly referenced by our application, both internal and external. Running caspol verifies that the DLL has full trust permissions:
C:WindowsMicrosoft.NETFramework64v2.0.50727>caspol -rsg D:...initextsharp.dll

Our application is running on three servers, two of them are on Server 2008 Web x64 while the third is running Server 2008 R2 Web x64, all have .NET 3.5 installed, no .NET 4.0 installations. The problem only occurs on the first two that are running 2008 non R2. Running depends.exe on all three servers gives equal results for the nonR2 servers:
My DLL is shown as x86 (compiled as AnyCPU, running in x64 w3wp), all other modules show as x64. Missing IESHIMS.DLL and LINKINFO.DLL - both of these seem to be red herrings according to Google. The third server shows the same, except it does not miss LINKINFO.DLL All servers are running IIS7 (7.5 for the R2 one) under a custom domain account that has been granted the necessary permissions:
aspnet_regiis -ga [user]
Load user profile is set to false on all three servers. I've tried setting this to true on one of the faulting servers, according to: [URL] By running processmonitor I can see that it's now using the C:UsersTEMPAppDataLocalTemp directory for various temp files - the other ones are not using any such directory. So far I'll let it run in this way to see if this changes anything. I'm in doubt however given that the third server is not exhibiting the problems, yet still has "Load user profile" set to the same value, false. I've also tried running Fuslogvw on all three servers, logging binding failures to disk. All three servers report the same binding errors for VJSharpCodeProvider and CppCodeProvider, but these seem to be normal as well and can be solved by not defining the DEBUG and TRACE constants during build. We're running about 500 websites on each server (identical, load balanced), of which 50 are under moderate load, the problem has arisen both under heavy load as well as under minimal load however.
Right now I'm waiting for the errors to happen again so I can hopefully see a pattern and determine whether "Load user profile" alleviates the issue. I don't understand how the lack of "Load user profile" would cause an issue like this? And even further, how it would seemingly work on R2 but not on plain 2008?

I'm trying to server an exe to Firefox from an aspx page. The aspx page handles the headers and the page is launched by our Flex GUI. Flex correctly launches the link for all browsers (including Firefox) so I'm certain that's not the issue.
The problem I'm having is when I try to download the file from within Firefox, FF downloads the file fine but it names it "Content". It has no extension and the file name is incorrect. All the other browsers download it with the file name I specified in the aspx page and they all have the .exe extension. I should note that if I rename the "Content" file to "Content.exe" it runs correctly.Below is the code I'm using in my aspx page -
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) {
string fileName = Request.QueryString["file"];
System.IO.FileInfo fileInfo = new System.IO.FileInfo(Server.MapPath(fileName));
[code]...

I've got a form that inserts data into a database using ASP.NET 2.0 . The problem is that when I hit the submit button on FireFox, the page submits and I'm redirected to the correct page. The problem is that the data isn't actually saved.When I try this on IE, it works fine. When I try this on FireFox using another browser it works fine. When I mirrored the application and data locally and use FireFox, it works fine.
It just doesn't work on production, and it seems like only my FireFox is having this problem. I've cleared out the cache in FireFox already, but it still doesn't work.Any ideas what is going on? I can't tell if this is client side or server side, and there is no way to debug right now.

OK, here's my scenario. I inherited a website and I'm dealing with a quirk. I have a page that has a repeater with auto postback controls in it. And also a hyperlink or a button to open a RadWindow to add a new item or edit an existing one, the repeater probably could have been a Gridview, but forget that for now.
If you use the button to add a new entry or the hyperlink to edit, it works fine and closes and refreshs the page. BUT, after you click ANY of the auto postback check boxes and THEN try and use the new button or edit hyperlinks the RadWindow works, but on clicking SAVE or CLOSE it throws a dialog box in IE and Firefox letting the user know that:
"To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier."
IE's message is similar. Clicking RESEND works fine and everything is ok, but its a bit distracting to the user. The RadWindow open a page that has THIS javascript in it:
function RefreshParentPage() {

I'm using the toolkit AutoComplete Extender to populate a textbox which is used for searching for a string on our website and it works great most of the time.
About a dozen times a day I'll see a "Request forat is unrecognized for URL unexpectedly ending in '/WebServices/AutoComplete/js'" logged in the server event log.
Like I said it works great most of the time.
Here is the contents of the /WebServices/AutoComplete.asmx file...
[Code]....
And the /App_Code/AutoComplete.vb file...
[Code]....
And the ascx code that uses the AutoCompleteExtender...
[Code]....
You can see the website that uses this control at http://www.biovea.net

This error is occuring randomly, and I can't seem to pinpoint what is causing it. For the most part, the code works fine. I'm confused why it works sometimes, but then suddently craps out on me, lol.It happens in the code when I call upon the asp.net membership provider. It only seems to happen when i use Membership.GetUser() to grab the logged in user's information.
