I've read the MSDN page describing the Localize control and read about the difference between designers in the following link:http://my.safaribooksonline.com/0321341384/app01lev2sec53 Still, I can't find any visual difference between the Localize and Literal control in the designer view of VS 2010.I've tried using explicit and implicit expressions in an aspx and the designer looks the same for both controls - shows the neutral culture resource.I've looked at the LocalizeDesigner code in reflector and the only thing the designer seems to localize is the HTML format of the outputed span control, and that seems irellevant to the designer.Can anyone attach a short example that demonstrate when the two controls behave differently?

How do I display the value of a resource without a ASP.NET control, i.e. I want to avoid this:
<asp:Label text="<%$ Resources: Messages, ThankYouLabel %>" id="label1" runat="server" />
Instead I would prefer to do just this in my .aspx pages:
<%$ Resources: Messages, ThankYouLabel %>
... but I can't, a parser error is thrown:
Literal expressions like '<%$ Resources: Messages, ThankYouLabel %>' are not allowed.
Use <asp:Literal runat="server" Text="<%$ Resources: Messages, ThankYouLabel %>" /> instead.

I should probably say I love these forums, I've been viewing for some time and have found loads of valuable information. I'm having a problem with my project, I have an updatepanel containing several items (Two Daypilot Schedulers and a Literal Control). I have set it to conditional and have it update whenever bookings are added/modified in the schedulers. This all works perfectly! I then have a literal control which contains div items with onmouseover= parameters. The control basically contains a list of pending booking requests. On Page_Load I call a method which populates the list...which works fine.
However, whenever I call the UpdatePanel.Update() method (say, when a booking is added), the schedulers update but the literal control does not. I have gone through the debugger and found that the LiteralControl.Text property is correctly set to the new updated list just before calling the Update() method. So basically it all works perfectly apart from the literal control not updating along with the schedulers in the UpdatePanel.

I'm fairly sure i know the problem, I believe it is the solution I cant figure out. I have a literal on my aspx page, which will hold an html table that i populate from my vb.net code. I insert a label such as:
<asp:Label ID="A0" runat="server" Text="1470853.29" /> into my table.. and a text box: <input type="text" id="C0"/> . the text boxes are displaying, but the labels are not. I believe this is because the asp:label is runat="server", instead of a normal <label> which would be runat="something else". when i pass the label into the literal, the page has already loaded, thus the label doesnt load. but because the textbox is not an asp server control it loads after the code populates my literal.
I have a couple hundred of these labels that i need to display. and need to populate them in my vb code. is there any way to force this <asp:label> to display after my literal is finished populating, or will i be forced to use the original <label> control?

This is something thats been bugging me for a while. I can't even remember if I fixed this before or not. What I'm trying to do is display a single error message for all validation controls on my page. I think this is possible if you write your own javascript function for a Custom Control, hiding the error message, and displaying it on a single control. Writting all the javascript for this and then refering to the control with "GetElementByID". But can I use controls like RequiredFieldValidator, and make them display messages on one single control without having to write javascript for each one of them? One single message on one single literal or label or whatever, at the bottom of the page, that says "fill in the compulsary fields" or something
similar. I find it very annoying having a list of validators underneath each other with different messages.

I got stuck in the following problem. I am using cascadingdropdown ajax control and binding data into dropdownlist from database. I have done to display the data from database. Now I want to display the data, which is related to the item which I selected from dropdownlist, to 'Label'. ex) I have a following table in database.If I select '2' from the dropdownlist, I want to display 'Taro' to the label. If '1' from the dropdownlist, 'Ken' to the label. ID name 1 Ken 2 Taro I changed 'AutoPostback' property of dropdownlist to TRUE,then when I run the page and select the item from dropdownlist, error occured. Error messege is as belows. Microsoft JScript runtime error: Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException: Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager.RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation. If there is another way to display the item into a label without postback, or someone knows how to sort out this problem,

so here is what i've got:
-master page with updatepanel - within the update panel is a contentplaceholder
-aspx page that uses the master page which contains aysncfileupload,a button,an image,and a label
what i'm trying to accomplish:
when a user uploads a file using the asyncfileupload it gets saved to a public folder.-this works as it should when the user presses the button the file is processed and should display the image and label (which were previously not visible)-this does not what happens is that the file gets processed but the image and label stay hidden,and i cannot figure out why.here's the aspx page and code snippets:
[Code]...
the file gets uploaded,and it even hits the two lines which should make the label and image visible but they stay hidden.i know that if you try to change controls with the afuExcelUsers_UploadedComplete event,they will not happen since the asyncfileupload only does a partial postback. this is why that event (afuExcelUsers_UploadedComplete) only saves the file on the server.then pressing the button triggers a different event and should do a "postback" and have control over the label and images visibility and other properties.

working on .net framework 3.5 with vb
I have displayed 50% of text on label control..then i have given a dynamic link to Read More.
when i clicks on Read More it passes query string of id of that content to same page which shows full content.
Now, what I want is when I clicks on Read More link the page postback then loads the full content. So, is there any way to avoid postback using update Panel for any links generated dynamically on Label control.....?

I'm using a literal to display some javascript on a product page control. Basically what I'm doing is in my code behind I'm declaring a new stringbuilder, writing the script while inserting some dynamic variables to populate the script then setting the literal text to the stringbuilder. This leaves me open to xss attacks. What can I do to prevent this?
System.Text.StringBuilder sb = new System.Text.StringBuilder();
//loop through items in the collection
for (int i = 0; i < _prod.ActiveProductItemCollection.Count; i++)
{
sb.Append("<script type='text/javascript'>");
//add +1 to each item
sb.AppendFormat("mboxCreate("product_productpage_rec{0}",", i+1);
[code]...

I am maintaining some Asp.net code. When one of the pages displays, a bulleted list of text is displayed on the web form. Somehow the bulleted text is passed in with a LITERALcontrol. I looked at the property of this LITERAL control and it is defined as "Pass Through".
I was confused because their was no C# code that was used to populate the LITERAL control. So basically with google I found out that the LITERAL must be using something called a "Pass through property"to pass in the data. Does anyone know anything about this? It seems very strange because I have no idea where the data is coming from.
So I hope I am on the right path here figuring out that a pass through property might be getting used.
Can someone me to understand this more, as I am so confused.
<table cellspacing="0" cellpading="0" width="100%" border="0">
<tr>
<td rowspan="2">
<td>
<ASP:LITERAL id="litMessage" runat="server"></ASP:LITERAL>
</td>
</tr>

The data which i get is may be of a simple string are may be a html page in the form of string.
