I'm using a custom AJAX based validation control to check user name availability from database. It's working alright in my development machine but in production server we are using Windows Authentication to authenticate by domain. The control is inherited from base validator and checks for user name availability from database perfectly but on form submission at Page.IsValid check it gives the following error.
remote server returned an error 401 unauthorized

Modal not showing up when show is called, also error on loading page. Attaching code below, can anyone help me discover my syntax / logic issues here?
NOTE: Did some research on this before posting, some claimed it can be an issue of where the modal is placed on the page in relation to the update panel I am using. I have tried different placements of the modal extender and I also tried removing the update panel all together in hopes to at least see the modal show, no go...same issue. So with that, the issue shouldnt be around the use of the update panel...

I have a custom control that renders different controls based on a property value. This all works correctly until i try and add a rating control to the control. When i render both controls in the CreateChildControls the control is rendered properly.
However when i try to add layout by overriding the RenderContents method and rendering controls there, an error is generated Extender controls may not be registered after PreRender. The code shows both methods of creating the controls.

It doesn't seem to matter what I try to make the animation do, I keep getting this shown in the designer. No one else on google seems to be getting that problem either. Note: it doesn't cause debugging or runtime issues... in fact, the only negative thing it does is make it extremely annoying when I look at the designer... I'm going to have about 12 of these updatepanelanimations firing everytime the timer ticks too :(.MasterPage file has the toolkitscriptmanager on it.Here is my designer code for the page I'm having the issue on:

I just installed Ajax Toolkit. The controls are available in my Toolbox, but when I insert them in a page, Visual Studio underlines them with the error message "unknown server tag".
I googled the problem and found several ideas :
check if the DLL is in Bin folder check if ajaxToolKit tags prefix is registered in web.config and make sure I'm not using a different prefix in my pages check if the DLL is registered in the pages with <% @ Register ... %>
Unfortunately all of this is fine, but I still can't get the controls to work. Is something else missing ?
EDIT : My environment is ASP.Net 2.0, Ajax Extensions 1.0, Ajax Toolkit 1.0.20229, Visual Studio 2005
