May 20, 2010Before I get started on this venture, does anyone know if there is someway to implement a progress bar with the AsyncFileUpload control?
And does anyone have any good links for how to start using the control? The website's "tutorial" page is about 2 lines long.
Why does it seem so hard to get a progress bar working? I don't want to download any 3rd party software or precompiled ProgressBar controls I just want to make one :(

Feb 16, 2010I have a wierd issue with the update progress control in ie8. I have a modal popup that loads a pdf in an iframe, then i have a button click that navigates away from the pdf and shows a form in the same modal. All this is wrapped in an update panel, which i have an update progress control associated with. The control shows correctly in ie7, firefox, safari, and chrome. But in ie8 when the async post back is complete the progress indicator does not hide, until I click on the screen or scroll the page, then it hides and the form shows.

Mar 16, 2011I have an updatepanel to which I am adding a web user control dynamically. This web user control has an AsyncFileUpload. I have read several articles that tell that asyncfileupload control will not work if added at run-time. As suggested by some of the articles,I tried adding a static asyncfileupload control but still it does not work.I need to have 5 file upload controls in the web user control. Do you think I can make them to work or should I completely do a re-design or go with full postbacks. My preference is to be able to use asyncfileupload control and I am willing to invest time in making them to work since they improve the user experience by many folds.

Sep 7, 2010I've got a plain C# web page that uses jQuery to call a handler page using AJAX. While the handler content is loading, a message "Please Wait, loading..." is displayed. Once I've got the content back from the handler I hide the loading message and display the content.What I'd like to do is after the loading message, display a percentage of how far through the handler page is. All the handler page does is loop through a list of members, powered by a web service, and adds them to the database so I know exactly how many members are being added to the database so I can tell how far I am through.The problem I'm having is because all of this goes on in a handler, how can I send the progress percentage back to the main web page while the handler was still loading.Any ideas? If I could do the exact same task but differently which would allow me to create the progress bar,

Apr 14, 2010I'm trying to make a progress bar that updates the user on the progress of the AJAX call.
My immediate thinking was that I need an AJAX call to start a thread on the server, allowing the starting AJAX call to finish, and allowing the thread to send updates back to the user.
For the purpose of simplicity, disregard the actual progress bar functionality (I was thinking of implementing one of those JS bars, with fancy colors and effects ;), but if I can get an update from the thread, then updating a simple JS progress bar becomes trivial ;) )

The click event is fired after the upload complete but... when the event is finished the AsyncFileUpload ontrol DISAPPEARS from the page and it is showen this instead:

May 4, 2010I have a requirement, where-in once a file is upoaded using the AsyncFileUpload control, I want the name of the uploaded file to be removed from the AsyncFileUpload control and it should show blank (as it was when the page was first loaded). Also, the control should allow uploading the same file immediately after the first upload is complete(assuming that the user deciedes to update the file after the first upload and wants to immediately upload the updated version of the file).

Feb 19, 2010i use a asyncfileupload control to upload files from my web pages. since i have a listview inside an update panel, and the listview needs to have the file upload functionality, i can not use a asp fileupload control.
the uploaded files are saved inside a temp folder in my application directory. i use a asp:button to upload files from the asyncfieupload control to my temp folder.
as long as i work on my local machine, the upload control inside the listview works perfectly fine, and does what is expected of it (i.e upload files :))
but when i move the code to my web server the asyncfileupload onthe page works just once, that is, it uploads just once (no matter whichever row of the listview it is) and for all other subsequent uploads, it uplaods a file of the same name to my temp folder but with 0KB size.
it beats me why asyncfileupload control would behave this way in the two environments.
could anyone suggest a possible reason/or something i m missing to configure on the server?

-master page with updatepanel - within the update panel is a contentplaceholder
-aspx page that uses the master page which contains aysncfileupload,a button,an image,and a label
what i'm trying to accomplish:
when a user uploads a file using the asyncfileupload it gets saved to a public folder.-this works as it should when the user presses the button the file is processed and should display the image and label (which were previously not visible)-this does not what happens is that the file gets processed but the image and label stay hidden,and i cannot figure out why.here's the aspx page and code snippets:

the file gets uploaded,and it even hits the two lines which should make the label and image visible but they stay hidden.i know that if you try to change controls with the afuExcelUsers_UploadedComplete event,they will not happen since the asyncfileupload only does a partial postback. this is why that event (afuExcelUsers_UploadedComplete) only saves the file on the server.then pressing the button triggers a different event and should do a "postback" and have control over the label and images visibility and other properties.

AJAX :: Using The Update Progress Control?
Feb 10, 2010I have a question about using the update progress control. I gasp the basic use of the control - basically you can associate it to an update panel, and whenever that update panel is updated, this update progress control is displayed on the page.
I do have a couple of questions though:
1. My project uses a lot of user controls. I would like to display an update progress control that "disables" or "whitewashes" the contents of the user control - which for this example - lets say it is a gridview and a drop down list - when the user changes
the selected value of the drop down list, the grid rebinds. I want the update progress control to shadow or whitewash only that grid while it rebinds. The rest of the page should be accessible.
2. I have certain pages that I want to be locked while an update panel is updating - in otherwords, the entire page is whitewashed or shadowed out and a ajax loader gif is shown. I currently have this working with an update progress control that does not have the AssociatedUpdatePanelID property set. This appears to fire every time any update panel is updated. If I were to have one of the user controls that has an update progress control that only applies to itself - and those update panels update - which update progress would be shown?

AJAX :: Change Button Text On AsyncFileUpload Control?
Jan 21, 2011Is it actually possible to change the button text on the AsyncFileUpload control from "Browse" or "Select File" to something else without having to modify the control's source code? it seems I have to apply all sorts of hacks and workarounds for such a simple requirement. I fail to understand the authors of this brilliant control haven't thought about this (or is it too complicated for them to do it). and also Is it possible to have two buttons one for selecting the file and one for uploading?. because it is confusing if the user thinks if he is simply selecting the file where as it does the upload as well. at least if I can change the caption to "browse and upload" that makes it clear. I think these two functions are merged now without giving any ability for the user to separate them if he wishes to do so. if there is a simple workaround at least if there is no straight forward way to achieve this.
