AJAX :: Programmatically Changing OnClick Within Child Controls?
Jul 22, 2010
I am trying to find a way to be able to programmatically change an update button's onclick eventhandler when that button is placed within an updatepanel. If i do not include the original onClick eventhandler function in the code-behind, the app wont compile. If i do include the original onClick eventhandler function, it executes when the button is clicked even after assigning a new onClick evnthandler function.

I've created 2 controls to manipulate a data object: 1 for viewing and another for editing.
On one page I load the "view" UserControl and pass data to it this way:
ViewControl control = (ViewControl)LoadControl("ViewControl.ascx");
control.dataToView = dataObject;
this.container.Controls.Add(control);
That's all fine and inside the control I can grab that data and display it.
Now I'm trying to follow a similar approach for editing. I have a different User Control for this (with some textboxes for editing) to which I pass the original data the same way I did for the view:
EditControl control = (EditControl)LoadControl("EditControl.ascx");
control.dataToEdit = dataObject;
this.container.Controls.Add(control);
Which also works fine.
The problem now is getting to this data. When the user clicks a button I need to fetch the data that was edited and do stuff with it. What's happening is that because the controls are being added programmatically, the data that the user changed doesn't seem to be accessible anywhere.

I have a TabContainer that has a button in one of the tabs. When i click on the button, I need to save a few items to the database and then select a different tab.
I have tried coding this tab change like this:
this.tcItems.ActiveTabIndex = 1;
And like this:
AjaxControlToolkit.TabPanel tabTwo = (AjaxControlToolkit.TabPanel)this.tcItems.FindControl("tabName");
this.tcItems.ActiveTab = tabTwo;
In both instances, I receive a scripting error message "Invalid argument." from the file "ScriptResource.axd".
After continuing or ignoring these errors (ussually three of them), the page finishes refreshing and the correct tab is selected. I'm just not sure how to get rid of these error messages or why I get them.

i'm trying to set my website's culture programmatically, so when a user clicks a button they can change the text on the page from english to spanish. here's my code:
protected void btnChangeLanguage(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentCulture = new CultureInfo("es");
Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture = new CultureInfo("es);
}
<asp:Label ID="lblDisplay" runat="server" meta:ResourceKey="lblDisplay" />
<asp:Button ID="btnChangeLanguage" runat="server" Text="Change Language"
OnClick="btnChangeLanguage_Click" />
i have a Default.aspx.resx file with a key/value of: lblDisplay.text/English and a Default.aspx.es.resx file with a key/value of: lblDisplay.text/Espanol. i can't get my Label's text to change from "English" to "Spanish". anyone see what i'm doing wrong?

I have a ASP.NET C# 3.5 web application, where I am changing the masterpage & theme for certain pages that have ASP.NET controls. The problem is that when the masterpage/theme is changed, the ASP.NET ImageButtons on the child page cease to function altogether and show up as normal images. The html source for that page would show a disabled="disabled" field added to the ImageButtons at runtime. All other controls including ASP.NET Buttons work fine, only ImageButtons are effected. I've changed masterpages in files many times and have not come across this problem, probably because I rarely use ImageButtons. I'm beginning to think it may be a bug in .NET itself, but it could be code related. I've also executed a javascript function after
load to set the disabled field to "enabled", which has no effect on the ImageButton but the source confirms it is enabled. The MasterPages / Child Pages are relatively straight forward and I've tried many different combinations to get it working. I'm changing the masterpage & theme via a function like:
public static void ChangeMaster(System.Web.UI.Page page)
{
page.MasterPageFile = "~/GX.Master";
page.Theme = null;
}

I'm starting with asp.net MVC 2. Very cool.I have been reading about the data annotations validation attributes that can be set on the view model properties.It's cool but I have a scenario where I need to determine at runtime whether one of the property is required or not.How can I achieve this ? I want to have client side validation enabled too.

I am using the ASP.NET membership system and I have found the ability to 'add user to role' programtically, but I am wondering if there is a way of changing a user role?
I don't simply want to add a user to another role and I can't seem to find the 'remove user from role' command.

I'm using one application but have multiple providers in my web.config for memberships, roles and profiles to allow my application to be used by different groups of users who need to connect to different databases.
This means I'm having to change the membership, role and profile providers on-the-fly in my code-behind files. So far I've taken care of the membership and roles a bit like this:
[Code]....
However, I'm having trouble finding out how to do the same sort of thing for Profiles. I've looked at ProfileProvider and ProfileManager but I can't work it out how to access my the profile property that I've created in my web.config file called "ScreenSize". Normally you would just write Profile.ScreenSize to read or write to the property.

I have a tab control with details about a user. I want to use javascript to change some visuals. It works fine if the control affected are not in the tab container, but as soon as I have the controls in the container it won't work as the tab control renames all it's child controls to something like this: <input name="TabContainer1$TabPanel1$Txt_Name" type="text" id="TabContainer1_TabPanel1_Txt_Name" />
It should be: <input name="Txt_Name" type="text" id="Txt_Name" />
Now my javascript won't work as it can't find the controls. I did try doing this: document.getElementById('<%= Txt_Make.ClientID %>') But then I this error "The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e.<% ... %>)."
I just need to know how to stop the Tab Container from renaiming the controls, please? I am still searching, but I'm also runnign out of time.

I've looked all over for a solution to my problem and i haven't come across a solution that works for me, at least i can't figure out how to make them work for me.I am creating a group of rating controls and adding them to a placeholder. I want to retrieve all ratings and update my database after a button clickall worked wonderfully, i thought i was making some real progress but then i noticed i could not get the value on the server side no matter what i tried... i noticed it's overwriting the value on a postback(i am assuming) i tried adding a if not isPostback statement but then it threw a callback error. anyway here is some code:
Sub Page_Load(sender as object, e as eventArgs) Handles Me.Load
For Each DataRow As Row In DataTable
Dim r As New AjaxControltoolkit.Rating
r.MaxRating = "5"
r.CurrentValue = "0"
[code]...

I have two problems with a databound AJAX Accordion. The Accordion looks like this:
[Code]....
The code behind has this subroutine:
[Code]....
[Code]....
The first problem I'm having is that this subroutine is not fired (I have a breakpoint in it) when the LinkButton inside the accordion is clicked. The Page_Load event fires and there is no error message, javascript errors, etc, but nothing else happens.
The second problem is that I'm not sure how to go backwards with the databind. I want to be able to make use of the UpdateMethod in the ObjectDataSource because I also have textboxes inside the accordion. I will have a Save subroutine that can be called but I'm not sure what code to put inside it.

I have two Repeater controls, each hosted in a user control. Both user controls are contained in the same aspx page. Only one User Control is visible at any one time. The repeaters are comprised of checkboxes, and text boxes for user input.
The aspx page is configured with an Ajax ScriptManager; and contains several Ajax UpdatePanels. These UpdatePanels result in partial page post backs when text is changed in a textbox control in controls on the aspx page (this is not the behaviour for the Repeaters in the User Controls). Through use of several AsyncPostBackTriggers, various controls contained in the other UpdatePanels on the page have their content refreshed in response to the partial page post backs they are configured be notified about.
Depending on a radio button group selection, I set the visible property to true or false - as appropriate for the User control containing a repeater control. The Repeater control is then populated with data using databinding. All of this works.
However, when the Submit button is clicked, the Repeater control contains no data.
Given that I am not dynamically adding the Controls containing the Repeater controls (but using Visible true / false). I would have thought that the State of the fields and the data in the visible control would be preserved during the post back.
The User Controls are contained within the UpdatePanel that contains the Submit Button.
I have explicitly Enabled View state without any effect.
Am I correct in assuming that I should not have to do any explicit handling of data changes the user makes (via client side script and manipulation of an Data Structure Representing the Repeater Data); and the View State should maintain the data I need to access on the server when submitted?
I do not believe that it is the User Control visible state changes that are causing the issue because when the page is initially loaded on of the User controls is populated with dummy rows (so it displays).
I am suspicious that because the visible state of the controls is changed during partial page post back, that the Page View State ends up with no knowledge of the User Control and therefore cannot track its data (or changes).

I need to achieve an effect of a read-only textbox, where when the user clicks on the textbox a popup grid control appears, after the user has made a row selection the text box is populated.... Looking at the AJAX Toolkit model it seems like a CustomExtender would be the way to go, but I can find no documentation on how to build such a thing, so I am looking at improvising.
Here is my process (which is still not working):
Using either an ASP.NET TextBox or HTML <input type="text" runat="server"> control I need to able to trap on the onclick event and then set an ASP.NET Panel control Visible="true". I have tried placing my GridView control inside a <div> and using style properties to set it to hidden and using a client-side (javascript) event handler on <input type="text"> onclick event setting the style property to visible, this does not work correctly. It results in a empty place-holder like grid that popualtes on click (I suspect this is because the DataGridView lives inside a ASP.NET Panel)
I would like to be able to call a server-side method from inside my client-side JavaScript function. I seem to recall from Microsoft AJAX 1.0 docs a way to RegisterClientScript or some approach that allows this and can not find anything on this being supported with the ControlToolkit/MS AJAX 2. If I can do this I could set my ASP.NET Panel Visible property to true and then call Update() on it's UpdatePanel parent which should give me exactly what I'm looking for.
