Accessing Tablerow Child Control By Type

Aug 11, 2010

I'm iterating through a collection of asp:tablerows to be able to get or set the text in a textbox that is nested in the third cell of the row; I'm doing this by type rather than by ID because the cell ID's in that column aren't totally consistent--thus I can't really call FindControl() to achieve this. I've resorted to casting the third control in the TableRow to a TableCell and then Casting the first control in that cell to a TextBox. Not quite correct, as I'm getting an index out of range exception thrown. The problem mainly lies in the Controls.Count() property of the third cell, which comes to zero. Not sure if there's a better way to access the textbox---should I resort to FindControl()?

foreach (TableRow row in tblProviders.Rows) {
string value = ((TextBox)((TableCell)row.Controls(2)).Controls(0)).Text;
...
}

My searches here only yielded use of FindControl(), so that may be the only way...

Javascript - Accessing Child Control Of A Gridview From Java?

Feb 24, 2011

The below code works, I'm just curious if there is a dynamic way to pass the generated GridLeft__ctl1_GridViewLeftSearch ID into the javascript function.

<HeaderTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="GridViewLeftTextBox" Width="80%" runat="server"
onKeyPress="javascript:SearchLeft(event);"></asp:TextBox>
<asp:Button ID="GridViewLeftSearch" runat="server" Width="100%"
OnClick="onSearchLeftGrid" Text="Search Patients" Font-Size="Small">
</asp:Button>
</HeaderTemplate>

Is their a way to access The GridViewLeftSearch Button inside this Javascript function without hard coding it?

function SearchLeft(e) {
var t = document.getElementById("GridLeft__ctl1_GridViewLeftSearch");
if (t != null) {
t.click();
}
}

UserControl - Accessing A Child Control In The Parent Page?

Nov 3, 2010

If for example my userControl has a CheckBox called IsGreatCoder and the userControl is embedded in a main page (parent page).

I normally have gained access to the IsGreatCoder.Checked value in the main-page by exposing it through a public property that I have to manually write (say "IsAGreatCoder").

If UserControl is included in the main page as "userControl1", then I would access it as "userControl1.IsAGreatCoder".

But, I was wondering if there was anyway to declare the UserControl such that all the UI controls added to it were declared as being public, that way allowing me to gain access to the actual controls in the main page (the parent).

Essentially I would like to be able do something like userControl1.IsGreatCoder.Checked instead of having to implement a property.

The reason I want to do this is that I want to have access to many more of the check-box's properties and it would be a pain to implement each one as a public property.

Forms Data Controls :: Accessing A Child "LinkButton Inside Control's HeaderTemplate"

Nov 19, 2010

I am using an event calendar control (not a MS control) and I am trying to access a LinkButton inside this control's HeaderTemplate. Below is what I have tried so far. I get the familiar "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. Does anyone has an alternate way to get this control? I need to change the visibility property of it.

<ec:EventCalendar runat="server" ID="eventscalendar"...
<HeaderTemplate>
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="100%">
<tr>
<td style="text-align: left; width: 33%; font-weight: bold; font-size: small; color: blue">
«
<asp:LinkButton ID="PrevMonth" runat="server" Text='Previous Month' CommandName="PrevMonth" />
</td>
...
</HeaderTemplate>
LinkButton PrevMonth = (LinkButton)form1!eventscalendar.FindControl("PrevMonth") as LinkButton;
LinkButton PrevMonth = this.FindControl("form1!eventscalendar!HeaderTemplate!PrevMonth") as LinkButton;

Accessing Controls / Events On A Master Page From Child Page

Sep 3, 2010

I have a problem i am trying to work out the best method with my limited skills. Im using vb.net(VS 2010) I am using a dll for an IFrame , which is call from code behind. On my site I havea masterpage which has two gridviews. ( GrdViewWebBureau is the one i am using for this query) GrdViewWebBureau is contained within an update panel and updated on a timer control trigger. GrdViewWebBureau updates the page with file counts and status from our clients. I can click on any one of the cells and the code behind is fired. What I am trying to do is put an IFrame on the master page and every time a user clicks on the grid, the Iframe is fired up.

I have tested the iframe and vb code behind from a dummy page and it works, however when the Iframe is on the master page it doeant work. What I am tryingh to achieve is that no matter what page a user is on the site, they will be able to click on the GrdViewWebBureau and the iframe will fire with the correct childpage. Each webPage may also have an Iframe as well, so i dont know if it is possible to make the IFrame global and just call that control ?? I have no idea if 1 this is possible with the code i have and 2, if i have the brains to understand the who what why and when.

Ajax UpdatePanel Child Control's Visibility

Jan 17, 2011

I want to change the visibility of two asp.net image controls (runat="server") at the beginning and the end of the method call duration. I mean, I want the first image displayed and second one remains hidden until the last line of my method, which in turn, the second image becomes visible and the first one hides. I've put the area of the triggering control in updatepanel and have declared triggers of the updatepanel; But when I press the control (which is a button), the image at the end of the process is displayed correctly and on time but the one which should be displayed in the first line of the method is not displayed. I've configured my updatepanel to use conditional update mode and have used these lines for my intention:

imgLoading.Visible = true;
..
rest of the process
..
if (true)
{
imgLoading.Visible = false;
imgSuccess.Visible = true;
}

Web Forms :: Accessing Methods In A Parent Masterpage From Child?

Jul 26, 2010

I have a main MasterPage that, as intended, forms the entire layout of my site. It has a bunch of methods common to all pages that use the mastertype, such as EnsureLoggedIn and such.

I want to move on to using nested masterpages to open up better layout options in some of the pages, but I am running into an issue. I get the layout of the nested masterpages fine, but I cannot access any methods in the parent masterpage.

I know my explanation seems a little sparse; I'm not exactly sure how to word what I'm looking for, heh. But here's a short example:

How To Get A Composite-control's Child Controls At Design-time

Jun 23, 2010

I am designing an ASP.NET v3.5 custom control based on CompositeControl.

embedded HTML tag elements within the CompositeControl in the ASPX page, such as:

At run time, MyControl.Controls contains the two labels as expected.

At design time, MyControl.Controls is empty.

I need this information at design time for various reasons.

Web Forms :: Accessing SiteMapDataSource On A Child Page From A Master Page?

Jan 19, 2011

I am just starting out with ASP.net and C#.

I have a master page that contains the main site navigation and a child master page that contains a secondary menu. I want to set the starting node on the secondary menu based on the selection on the main menu.

I can get the code to work when the menus are on the same page, but when I separate them into their respective master pages, I get an error saying "The name 'SiteMapDataSource2' does not exist in the current context".

I have tried playing around with the FindControl() method, but either it won't work or I'm not getting the syntax right. Most of the information I find is for a child page referencing the master page, but not the other way around.

How can I access the SiteMapDataSource2 control from the master page? If possible, can you include the exact syntax as I am still trying to get the hang of this.

Here is a basic representation of my code, with all of the uncessary stuff stripped out:

Master Page

Master Page Codebehind

AJAX :: Prevent Tabcontrol From Renaming Child Controls?

May 11, 2010

I have a tab control with details about a user. I want to use javascript to change some visuals. It works fine if the control affected are not in the tab container, but as soon as I have the controls in the container it won't work as the tab control renames all it's child controls to something like this: <input name="TabContainer1$TabPanel1$Txt_Name" type="text" id="TabContainer1_TabPanel1_Txt_Name" />

It should be: <input name="Txt_Name" type="text" id="Txt_Name" />

Now my javascript won't work as it can't find the controls. I did try doing this: document.getElementById('<%= Txt_Make.ClientID %>') But then I this error "The Controls collection cannot be modified because the control contains code blocks (i.e.<% ... %>)."

I just need to know how to stop the Tab Container from renaiming the controls, please? I am still searching, but I'm also runnign out of time.
