Accessing HyperLinkField Text Property On RowDataBind?

Aug 20, 2010

I'm trying to access the Data text Field value of a HyperLinkField inside of a GridView Control during the databind event. Normally, I could access any cell's value with some syntax along the lines the following in the RowDataBind function:

myVarText = e.Row.Cells(2).Text

But this doesn't work when trying to access the value of the hyperlinkfield. All that's returned is an empty string.

C# - Getting Text Of .NET HyperLinkField In GridView

Mar 3, 2011

I'm trying to get the text of a HyperLinkField in a GridView's OnRowDelete event (the HyperLinkField's text is the primary key of the row I wish to delete). I understand that you can't get the text using the code I've placed below; it only works for BoundFields (for HyperLinkFields, the string is ""). But, I've been unable to find a working answer for getting this text. How do I get the displayed text from a HyperLinkField? (VS2010 w/ ASP.NET 4.0 and C#)

C# - Modify Hyperlinkfield Text In Gridview?

Mar 26, 2010

I am stumped on this one. I want to modify the text in a Hyperlinkfield of Gridview after the data is bound to it. I found similar code to this on msdn and I can't get it to work.

protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
e.Row.Cells[2].Text = e.Row.Cells[2].Text + "random text";
}
I also tried similar code in the Page_PreRender event with no luck. I have also tried calling DataBind() before this one line of code with no help. I always just get "random text" in the cell without the data from the DB.

Is there anyways that the value of Message is retained for both the aspx pages?

Forms Data Controls :: Accessing A Property With Datalist / Binding The Data On The Display All The Parent Table Fields Can Be Rendered?

Jun 7, 2010

Am using datalist to create a kinsd of message board, in the back end am having two tables one for the parent comment , and other for the child comments

The data source is extracted by LINQ to SQL with the load option , so I get everthing when I debug on the code behind , and I can see all the fields each parent comment and the child comments.

the problem is with binding the data on the disply for example all the parent table fildes can be rendred without any problems:

<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "comment1Parent") %>; "showing me the orginal post"

Problem here:

<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Childcomment") %> is not rendred and I got this error msg:

DataBinding: 'DataAccessLayer.Comment' does not contain a property with the name 'childComment'.
In the debug I navigate to the childComment and this is its HTML visualisar:

new System.Linq.SystemCore_EnumerableDebugView<DataAccessLayer.Comment>(((ASP.usercontrols_comments_ascx)this).Comments)).Items[0]._comments_Replies.entities.items[0].childComment

I tried

<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "_comments_Replies.childcomment")

Same as above error came to me.

</EditItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Created By">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="lbl_tabcreatedby" runat="server" Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "t_CreatedBy") %>' />
</ItemTemplate>

<asp:CommandField HeaderText="Modify" ShowEditButton="True" />
<asp:CommandField HeaderText="Delete" ShowDeleteButton="True" />
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Add a New Name">
<FooterTemplate>
<asp:LinkButton ID="lnkbtn_AddName" runat="server" CommandName="Insert">Add Name</asp:LinkButton>
</FooterTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>

And then in the Code Behind I am trying to access the txt_Name Textbox as

protected void gv_Name_RowCommand(object sender, GridViewCommandEventArgs e)
{
string t_Name = ((TextBox)(gv_Name.FooterRow.FindControl("txt_Name"))).Text;
// Insert Code
}

But I am getting null in the string t_Name everytime irrespective of what is the current Text of txt_Name.
However I can get the text if I disable the ViewState for the page.

Accessing And Renaming Text Block Inside Datagrid Column Header

Jul 22, 2013

I was using the VisualTreeHelper trying to locate a textBlock inside the datagrid columnHeaders. I have just learnt that : "The Header object of the DataGridColumn is actually the visible header of that column, whatever you set it to be. DataGridColumn is not part of the Visual Tree so there is not direct way to access the DataGridColumnHeader for it (we can't even be sure it exists yet)... " This has set me back by a couple of days. I tried to convert the suggested code to vb.net in order to use it but I don't seem to get it right. The code in c# is :

Code:

ataGridColumnHeader headerObj = GetColumnHeaderFromColumn(column);
private DataGridColumnHeader GetColumnHeaderFromColumn(DataGridColumn column)
{
// dataGrid is the name of your DataGrid. In this case Name="dataGrid"
List<DataGridColumnHeader> columnHeaders = GetVisualChildCollection<DataGridColumnHeader>(dataGrid);

[Code] ...

How to apply it in my scenario shown below. I want to access in order to rename the textblock 'columnHeaderName'. How can I do this?

Code:

<Datagrid>
<Datagrid.Columns>
<DatagridTemplateColumn Header="header1" Width="100">
<DatagridTemplateColumn.HeaderTemplate>

[Code] ....

How To Set Read Only Property For Text File Through The Code

Mar 31, 2010

I have a txt file, in which read only property is true. When I try to write some text in that file through the vb coding, it's through the error. I have shown the code below.

Dim fs As FileStream = File.OpenWrite(HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("Include/CacheKeyFile.txt"))
Dim sw As New StreamWriter(fs)
sw.Write("Menu setup updated by " & value & " on " & DateTime.Now.ToString())
sw.Close()
fs.Close()

I found the cause of the error. If we set the Write access property to false, we can open the file and write it without showing the error messages.

I need to remove the Read only property for a file through the vb. Net code. Is it possible? Can we set the read only for txt file before open and write operation?

Generic Casting To Access Text Property?

Sep 23, 2010

I have a situation where I'm iterating through all the controls on a form, specifically looking out for any of these three types of controls: Labels, TextBoxes, CheckBoxes

I can, of course, get the type of the control and then use a Switch-Case construct to cast labels as Labels, textboxes as TextBoxes, and checkboxes as CheckBoxes.

But I'm wondering if there's a way to do something with one or two lines of code to gain access to the Text property of each of these controls?
