Architecture :: How To Integrate 2 Applications

Jul 22, 2010

1) I have a question, many kind of applications / programs offer API's for integration. Is it possible to integrate any kind of application / program with any kind of application with the help of API ?i mean two completely different applications/programs with different database structure can still be integrated with each other with the help of API ?2) Where exactly is the API file stored ? i mean in order to integrate 2 applications i need to create an xml file ? and store it where ? or i have to do some modification in the code of my application in order to work with this api integration ? how it works..please guide me in a right direction....

3) Could anyone explain me how this API thing works ? i have been provided a PDF file by the application company that i need to integrate with my database based web application.now i have to make API connections in my code ? or how ?

Architecture :: Handle BL Cache For Multiple Web Applications?

Mar 27, 2010

I recently received a project that contains multiple web applications with no MVC structure. For starters I've created a library (DLL) that will contain the main Business Logic. The problem is with Caching - If I use the current web context cache object than I might end up with duplicate caching (as the web context will be different for every application).

I'm currently thinking about implementing a simple caching mechanism with a singleton pattern that will allow the different web sites (aka different application domains) to share their "caching wisdom". I'd like to know what is the best way to solve this problem.

Probably the most performant solution. I'm not feeling lucky about using static fields though. Thread safety? What if my static class contained a static System.Collections.Queue?

Architecture :: Exception Handling In Multi-tiered Applications?

Apr 27, 2010

Even though I'm trying to implement exception handling in a multi-tiered Windows application, catching and throwing exceptions should be the same for Windows and Web (sans global.asax and web.config custom errors).

I have a webform with a texbox that displays exceptions. So my webform invokes a method in BusinessTier class which then invokes a method in DataTier class. How can I throw my DataTier method exception so it reaches my webform?

WCF / ASMX :: Building Services To Work With Web Applications And Console Applications?

Jun 7, 2010

I've been worked with web services so far, and I'm interested in expanding my services to console applications as well so I started digging up with WCF but I'm conserned that I won't be able to use the HttpContext collection that I've been used to do with web services one important thing which is to generate a random value from HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["ALL_HTTP"] that I need to reckon if it's the same or at least near what machine that is calling my service. How can I overcome this problem?

I need to know what machine is calling to count the number of attempts to login into my system for example. So must do it inside of the svc code otherwise if I let the client inform what ip address or what computer he is using, anyone could forge this argument and surpass by another machine. May be I'm approaching this matter wrongly. And I should count the number of attempts per state session, but how is it done?

Configuration :: Deploying Web Applications With Sub Web Applications?

Apr 22, 2010

Our corporate intranet is designed so that each web application is a child application in the primary application.. Everything has worked fine with Visual Studio 2008 and even in 2010 running the website locally works great, the output directory for the child apps is ..in and the ProjectName.dll copies to that directory.. When I do a publish however it does not and I have to manually copy the dll from the bin folder in the project folder to the parent bin folder, this isn't hard of course but more of a pain in the butt each time I need to publish something. I made sure the output directory is correct for both debug and release yet on publish is just copies it to the child bin and not the parent bin as needed.

Architecture :: How To Design A Centralized Business Or Service Authentication Architecture

Sep 22, 2010

i want to create a centralised business or Service authendication architecture in .net. for example, we have a clients like c1, c2, c3, c4, ... etc. everybody logins seperatly as well as grouply. ie, if client "C1" logins [with login authentication] he can access c2 , c3, c4 also without login authendication. So its like a google. if we enters gmail account, we can access orkut, picasa like that.. i need the cetralised architecture.

And, client "c1" seperately asks seperately how will be the authendication architecture.

so give me the single solution for both these two scenarios. how will be the architecture for these two and how is the Data Base (Login) Structure.

Architecture :: Entity Model Design Framework And N - Tier Architecture

Dec 25, 2010

recently i've studied on ADO.NET's Entity Model Framework and say 'wow' as ORM is one of the fevourite pattern i practice..but suddenly i've come to an ambiguous situation when i'm going to start. i usually follow the following 3-tier architecture..

1. UI Layer
2. BLL - business logic layer
3. DAL - Data Access Layer
a. DTO / DAO
b. Gateway (contains the sql query/stored procedure and connection with DB)

now when i'm going to use the Entity Model Design, where the DBML/ .edmx File should be placed? Because many a times i'm using the DBML file as DTO because of the mapped objects.. in the same time, sometimes DBML ( .edmx file in .NET 4.0) contains CRUD methods and stored procedured method as well as methods with different selection operations,- which should be in Gateway. so where the .edmx file should be placed !?!! IN DTO namespace !? or in Gateway namespace!

moreover sometimes there is no need for the BLL which breaks the rules of inter-layer-communication (UI > BLL > DAL.Gateway)! what makes me confuse is, what should be the ideal n-tier architecture when i'll use the ADO.NET Entity Model Design Framework

The wcf service should do the following:

- Accept the request call with xml

- Check xml against the schema

- Parse the xml

- Authenticate the incoming xml by username and password that will be in xml
