Are Health Monitoring And ELMAH Alternatives Of Each Other

Feb 21, 2010

I was going to use ELMAH for our ultimate automatic error logging but recently realized that ASP.NET Health Monitoring does a same work (perhaps). Now I want to know (please) if they are alternatives of each other just like log4net and entlib?

Health Monitoring And The Event Log?

May 31, 2010

I've set up the health monitoring system to output to the event log. Everything is working fine, though I'm wondering if there is a way to:

A) Define the event source as my application name (it currently appears as ASP.NET 2.0.50727.0)

B) Adjust the level of severity. Currently, all events are recorded as a "Warning", and it would be nice to tag some as "Error".

Health Monitoring Of All HTTP Requests?

Sep 10, 2010

If I want to have log of all requests made within a web site including any http bad requests, is this possible?

For e.g I want to be able to see if every http request from the site including any for images that don't exist etc.

All the things an IIS log has.

Is this possible with HTTP Module or something like the ASP.net Health monitoring?

Health Monitoring To SQL Server Fails?

Aug 5, 2010

I've got my e-mail health monitoring working fine (removed here) but when I try to get it into SQL Server it fails. When I run the stored procedure (aspnet_WebEvent_LogEvent) manualy it works OK. But nothing happens when I create an error (but I go get my health monitoring e-mail). What can I have missed?

.net - Use An HTTP Module Over Asp Health Monitoring Or Visa Versa?

Aug 31, 2010

I have come across this question several times, you need to do some performance testing (request process times, load times, etc) or track unhanded exceptions. The answers usually come down to writing a HTTP Module, hook into specific events and log them somewhere, or use the built in health monitoring?

Why would we use one over the other? What are the pros and cons?

Java - Siutable Tool And Technology For Electronic Health System?

Jul 26, 2010

i am going to develop an EHR (Electronic Health Record System) i am new to this field and want to discuss what tool technology i have to use for this purpose:

here is my research about EHR and available tools for it

1) i am going to discuss about java as an EHR is a web based system so J2EE will be the solution for java at core level and as i am going to globalize my system so i need some standard protocol for it the most useful and one is HL7 CDA 2.0 one thing about java i like is it provides JAVA CAPS with full implementation of HL7 protocol. it make my work bit easy the second thing about java is it is very efficient for DATA CENTERED application as mine one is but the problem is with the scalability of system that is much expensive and time taking. and java is bit slower on client side that can effect downtime that should me very less approaching to zero for my system. and at last i need a attractive user interface. and the most wanted thing is privacy and security.

2) the other option is PHP for doing all as above described it is less expensive and less time taking for scalability, may contribute to achieve a good interface and a faster client side but question mark on data centric environment and security.

3) the last one is the MS's ASP.NET no doubt about security and privacy but very much expensive to develop and maintain and no platform independence and what about speed that is response and down times?

i have discussed the possibilities upto my best knowledge hope u people advise me which one will be the best to attain privacy, security, speed and scalability on best cost.

Looking For Good Website Monitoring Tool

Mar 9, 2011

I looked at Google's, but my boss shot it down because it involves adding a script to every page you want to track. I keep searching the web, but the stuff I am finding seems to be crap or not work all together. This is mainly for internal sites, not external. Seems liek a lot of the stuff I am finding want to give me remote statistics to a publically available site.

Implement A Realtime Monitoring System?

Oct 21, 2010

I have either an ASP.NET displaying my results, or a Silverlight client. And I'd like to show the current status of my server, or embedded device. (pretend the device reads temperature and humidity stats)

How should I send the status information from my device to the front end? Should I poll the device and save the results to SQL, Azure Table, or the like? (Azure is a technology that fits with this project for other reasons. That's why I mention it) Or should I create a WCF service that polls the device directly and returns the current status.

Monitoring Traffic To Cassini On Localhost?

Jul 22, 2010

I'm experiencing some really odd timeout issues when running a ASP.NET 2.0 project on Cassini on localhost, and I don't have enough data to get a clue of what's going on.

Is there a way to monitor localhost traffic to Cassini, either using some specific development tool or a general-purpose monitoring app such as fiddler?

Just to pre-empt some answers I'm already aware of:

Normally I can use the well-known dot-hack for using fiddler to monitor localhost traffic, but with Cassini I get the following error message in the browser:

[Fiddler] Connection to localhost. failed. Exception Text: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it ::1:3213

Fiddler also listens to localhost on http://ipv4.fiddler:port, and I can intercept the traffic. But when I do this the timeout issues don't occur!

Edit: Oops. This question had already been asked... Twice.. Didn't come up on search or . The solution found in the second thread is to use the dot-hack with ip-address (http://127.0.0.1.:port/ instead of "localhost". This question may be closed.

Visually Tracking / Monitoring Workflow(WF) 4.0?

Feb 18, 2011

I am planning to build a custom web application in ASP.NET 4.0 using WF 4.0, the user wants ability to modify workflows himself, for this we will be using a WPF client which the user can use and we will do workflow re-hosting, lots of blogs and guidance is available for this. But I am not sure how to the meet one requirement where the user wants to see/track a visual representation (diagram/image) of the workflow, depicting what stages are over, what is the current stage etc. This needs to be done on a web page.Possibly the same workflow with icons depicting status. This is something similar to the visual available for Visio workflows in SharePoint 2010. Even AgilePoint workflows provide such a view.

MVC :: Are There Any Validation Alternatives

Aug 4, 2010

Im looking for some input on a validation problem i have. My demands for validation are:

1. Able to do database checks

2. Error messages are custom and imported from other localized source as stringvariables(NOT resource files).

3. DRY serverside and clientside validation.

As far as ive seen data annotations dont work well under these cirumstances, custom attributes are needed just to be able to output the strings(wonder why this wasnt thought of). This isnt a dealbreaker but as ive tested sofar custom attributes must be added in the global.asax wich i 1. cannot get to work in the CMS im building this on and 2. i dont want to have to edit the global.asax everytime the scripts are implemented. Serverside this solution works fine though. From what ive read IDataErrorInfo should not be used? So havent really checked how to get this rolling with client-side either.

My thought was using custom service layer validation with xval but documentation is very poor to the extent i could find any(couldnt find any real nfo on how to implement xval with your own code, ie not using the autgened client-side metadata wich leads to the annotation problem described above). So i have a hard time finding any working solution other than to build something 100% custom.

Do anyone have a solution or perhaps some information or can steer me in any direction on the best way to getting this done in a good fashion other than building custom?

.NET Alternatives To UDP Multicast?

Jan 8, 2010

I am looking for an alternative to using UDP multicast on the .NET Framework and am looking for suggestions.I need to send messages to several web servers running quite a few ASP.NET applications. These messages would be one-way only, coming from several different machines. UDP multicast would be perfect except that I can't use it due to it requiring administrative rights. Seehttp://stackoverflow.com/questions/1941463/asp-net-multicast-udpclient-problems for details as to why.Is there something else that would work in a similar manner, allowing multiple applications to receive broadcast-type messages?

Web Forms :: Button Click Seems To Cancel Change Monitoring?

I've set up a utility class, which includes the code shown below. Each of my edit pages inherits from the utility class, and in each of their Page_Load() methods I include a call like this:

EstablishCancelConfirmation(btnCancel, "Data has changed - OK to cancel and discard changes?");

Looking For Aspose Slides Alternatives

Sep 23, 2010

I'm developing an ASP.NET website that will allow users to view and print Microsoft PowerPoint slides. Right away, I knew that Aspose had a product that would likely allow me to do this. What I'd like to do is look at alternatives just to say to management, "Yes, I've looked at the alternatives and they are". I can't seem to find any other than the open source project on Source Forge which seems to be mostly dead and I'm not even sure if it's something that would meet my needs anyway: [URL]. Is anyone aware of any alternatives to Aspose Slides .NET? Please list them if so. If you are aware there are no decent alternatives, I would find that information useful as well.
