Today I researched about reportviewer to use it in my project. As I see the samples and tutorials in the web, We should create an dataset file to Solution Explorer and bind it to report viewer to show data.
However I want to create dataset programatically like sample code below. And I want to bind it.

I have created a web application will will eventually be the holding place for several reports. Rather than creating a new webform for each report, I want to use the same report viewer for all of the reports. I have created an AccountSummary dataset (AccountSummaryDS.xsd) that has two tables, one for the header information and one for the details. I have two webforms in the app, a Default.aspx that captures the necessary employee information for the query and the ReportForm.aspx that has the reportviewer control.
I came up with the code below for a Windows form application but am having issues translating it to be used in a webform.

In Crystal Reports Viewer (2008) for ASP.Net, when you click on the Export button, the Export dialog shows up with File Format options:

That's my C# code but i the "ReportViewer1.LocalReport.Render("PDF", null, out mimeType, out encoding, out filenameExtension, out streamids, out warnings);" came in error everytime i try to generate the report. Can you show me the way so i can view the pdf from the browser or save the pdf from the browser?
I've done a asp.net application to generate reports over a particular data. Initially i created local reports (.rdlc) to generate reports. I created separate .xsd for each rdlc and designed the reports. I build the dataset programmatically and bind it to the rdlc. I used the following code for binding the datasource to the reports -
rptMyReport.LocalReport.ReportPath = Server.MapPath(srdlcName);
rptMyReport.LocalReport.DataSources.Add(rds);
Now i have converted all the rdlc to rdl following this msdn article and i've published the reports to the report server.

Now how can i set the datasource to the reports programmatically?
I was just thinking if there was a way to programmatically open and close connections to the database via the dataset classes we've added into the project.
I am trying to avoid one specific problem. Assume there is an EmployeeTableAdapter. It has two methods IsValid(string EmployeeID) and HasDepartmentAccess(string EmployeeID, string DeptID). Afaik each of these methods, open a connection, does data retrieval, and then closes it.
The opening and closing of the connection is done internally. I kind of want to override this, and close the connection upon a page unload event which (I'd manually register it with the datadapter class somehow).

I have some reports that I was using in SQL reporting services. Extensions are .rdl and want to get them to work with VS 2008.
I copied the rdl files and the .rdl.data files over to VS 2008 (SP1) project but when I go to select the report in the control it does not see the file (I assume it is looking for a .rdlc file)

I have already created a report in SSRS 2008. I'm using the Report Viewer to view it. I have one Report Parameter which is a list of usernames. I'd like to programatically select a particular value from that list.
So for instance, user: sdsmith goes to the page. The webpage will grab that username, check it against the list in ReportParameter1, then set the value of ReportParameter1 to sdsmith if it's found in the list.

View 6 Repliesi made an upgrade to an existing application (still developed by me), while testing on my development machine, everything worked fine. After migrating to a Test Server(windows 2003 server), users can not test the application, it periodically crashes their session and redirected them to the login page (Forms Authentication). No error is generated and no entry is logged in the windows event veiwer on the server. I also noticed this also happens when they try to access a particular page in the application.
The page contains 50 instance of a user-control. Each of the user-control contains 8 textboxes, 2 labels,1 hidden field and 12 asp.net validation controls. I tried saving a copy of this page from Internet explorer (IE8) on my development machine,its about 2.2MB in size.What may be wrong and what tracing tools can i use on my development machine (since it generates no errors). How can i also reduce the size of the page (noting that the asp.net validation controls generated alot of HTML codes)

I had some problems with Visual Web Developer Express 2008 recently, so I decided to reinstall it.Since then I have not been able to get ReportViewer to work again.When I try top open an rdlc file in the VWD environment, it opens in source view not design view. So I can not edit it, the way I normally would.I cannot add a new report. However the reports I have already created still work when I run the application.have tried unistalling and reinstalling everything, SQL Server Express 2008 (SP1), Visual Web Developer 2008 and Microsoft Reprt Viewer Redistributable 2008.I can not seem to get the environment back to how it was before.
