C#: Can't See Methods In DLL - Why
Dec 9, 2010
I developed a DLL in C# When I am trying to call it I get: System.EntryPointNotFoundException: Unable to find an entry point named: It means that DLL doens't export any methods visible from DLL. Dumpbin doesn't show any methods either:
dumpbin.exe -exports ActiveXTest.dll
Dump of file ActiveXTest.dll
File Type: DLL
Summary
2000 .reloc
2000 .rsrc
2000 .text
What's wrong? The DLL looks ok.. according to documentation:
Csharp Code:
namespace Kosmala.Michal.ActiveXTest
public static void setHooks()
{
....
}
Here is how I call it:
Csharp Code:
namespace IWFHotkeyStarter
{
class Program
{
[DllImport("D:\work\iwf\_ctrl-tab-modless_dlg_testing\activex\VSProjects\AcriveXSourceCode\bin\Debug\ActiveXTest.dll")]
public extern static void setHooks();
static void Main(string[] args)
{
Program p = new Program();
p.run();
}
private void run(){
Console.WriteLine("run<<");
setHooks();
Console.WriteLine("run>>");
}
}
}

I have an extension method as follows:
public static class PageExtensions
{
public static int GetUserId(this Page targetPage)
{
var user = Membership.GetUser(targetPage.User.Identity.Name);
return (int)user.ProviderUserKey;
}
}
Now in a page I need to use this method in a static WebMethod, so I have added another 'extension method' to PageExtensions:
public static int GetUserId()
{
return (int)Membership.GetUser(HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name).ProviderUserKey;
}
and I call it as follows in my WebMethod: PageExtensions.GetUserId()

I am beginner in web applications development. I started one little project and host it on source forge "https://homoco.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/homoco". And I started implementing authentication in this application to learn how it works. From my experience people never use out of the box things so I want to implement this stuff alone (like in real world projects). So some questions:
1) Is there any reason to use membership out of the box? To use database table schema, stored procedures etc. that tool generate for developer. I think that this lower control over code and I decided to implement it my self. I don't know if I am right.
2) Is my approach in this demo project good or bad (if someone have time I like to do just a little code review)? I created database based on business rules. Not using database schema that membership provider require. Extend "MembershipProvider" class to satisfy my needs. Implement queries to database myself.
3) Now, this question is a little wired but I have to ask it. If we make custom Membership Provider and do sql queries alone, implement all MembershipProvider class methods ourselves, and in application use Membership.blabla() why is this approach different from not extending MembershipProvider class and putting all this methods in some unique class and call its methods then? I hope that someone understand what I ask here.
I am sorry for three questions, but I really trying to find the best way to implement this feature in my demo project like it is a real world application.

I have an ASP.NET web application and I'm thinking about the following: before sending any HTML or CSS content to users, I wish to 'compress' them, then cache the result and send that to the clients.I know it is possible to compress these by removing whitespaces, comments and stuff like that, but I'm not really familiar with more advanced solutions for this.
Apart from this, what compression methods are there and what are the advantages of each of them?Does some browsers or the HTTP protocol itself support any kind of compression?
EDIT: I'm interested in doing this to dynamically-generated HTML, too.

I have this snippet in my html... Fusion Charts requires I feed it an XML to create a graph
<script type="text/javascript">
var myChart = new FusionCharts("/Content/Fusion_Charts/Charts/Column3D.swf", "myChartId", "470", "350", "0", "0");
myChart.setDataURL("/XML/Graph/?list=<%=Model.list%>");
myChart.render("Graph");
</script>
So in my XMLController I simply have a method like this
public ActionResult Graph(FusionChartsList list)
{
return View(list);
}
So my question is... how can I get the object to actually populate when passing it as url parameter??

Do I need to implement all the required methods on the MembershipProvider and RoleProvider if writing a custom one to use the AuthorizedAttribute in ASP.NET MVC?
There are a few features that I don't want to implement like CreateUser or 'DeleteRole` because they violate the system I will be authorizing/authenticating against.

I am creating a web application with back-end on ISeries.In the page load I am populating a datatable and using it as a datasource for my gridview.
What is the best possible way to access the data in the datatable from other methods, on the same page? And in other pages?
The way I do currently is to get data from the gridview and populate in another datatable and then use it... Is there a better (elegant) way to do that?

I'm using Asp.net c# language programming. What is the best way for authenticating web methods in a web service? Is it right having authentication for every web method and verify user name and password for each web method? Is there a way to authenticate just once not for every web method? something like using sessions and etc?

I just wanted to ask the procedure of email verification, whats the best method. So far i have a class that stores the information from the register.aspx form, then i send out an email to the user, but what should i send him, should i send the user a guid?. Also my membership class that stores the register data is stored in a session, is this a good idea, becuase if the user session times out then the membership class will be nothing and the user will be prompted to register again in a Session Timeout webpage, is this a good method?
But what if i send the user a guid and then store the user data to the database with the guid and then check the email guid with the corresponding user guid in the database, what should i do?Also i have a Regular expression that checks that the email is valid, its not that good yet and i havent tested it properly, is there free email verification api's out there?

I have these two methods on a service:
public Offer GetOffer(int id, string languageCode = Website.LanguageSettings.DefaultLanguageCode)
{
Entities.Offer offerEntity = _db.Offers.FirstOrDefault(offer => offer.Id == id);
if (languageCode.ToLower(CultureInfo.InvariantCulture) != Website.LanguageSettings.DefaultLanguageCode)
{
using (IDocumentSession session = store.OpenSession())
{
Translation.Offer translatedOffer = session.LuceneQuery<Translation.Offer>(Website.RavenDbSettings.Indexes.Offers)
.Where(string.Format("ObjectId:{0} AND LanguageCode:{1}", id, languageCode))
.OrderByDescending(offer => offer.Id)
.FirstOrDefault();
var offerPOCO = Mapper.DynamicMap<Translation.Offer, Offer>(translatedOffer);
offerPOCO.Id = offerEntity.Id;
return offerPOCO;
}
}
return Mapper.Map<Entities.Offer, Offer>(offerEntity);........................................

I'm building a new ASP.NET MVC application (in C#) and one of the requirements is to create a new database of members. For this, we'd need roles to manage the different types of members and profiles to manage the additional metadata attached to each member. So far so good, just use the standard MembershipProvider, RoleProvider and ProfileProvider provided as part of the .NET Framework.
However, the catch is that I'd like to allow different authentication methods. I'd like Accounts and Login Credentials to have a one-to-many relationship (one account can have a number of login credentials attached). A user for example, might have both an OpenID and ActiveDirectory account attached to their account.
However, after experimenting with a few ways we opted for the MembershipProvider route (explained how it was achieved as an answer below).
It appears to be something that is achieved on quite a number of sites, yet a search on here doesn't return anything solid to play around with.
EDIT: After looking around for a good period of hours overnight and this morning - I'm still not convincinced that butchering a single MembershipProvider would have been the easiest option. Does having multiple MembershipProviders give the same effect?
BOUNTY EDIT: With no responses, I am assuming that there is no more optimal solution that the one I posted as an answer. Is this really the case? I'm offering a bounty to try and see if anyone has any further thoughts on this and whether there are better alternatives.
BOUNTY ACCEPT EDIT: I think that WIF is the answer as accepted below, for a .NET 4 release and maybe other versions as it probably works with 3.5. Other than that, maybe a butchered MembershipProvider or adapted one may still be relevant.

How would I go about sending a int variable, and string variable from one method to another method, to a final third method? This is basically how I have my methods setup. Obviously there is code that runs in each of these, but I am just trying to understand how to transfer these variables to my other methods.

another contribution to the T4MVC template, this time a bug fix.The template changes non-virtual methods to virtual so that they can be overriden. However, this fails when the action method overrides a base method. For example:
[Code]....
The T4MVC template will modify the ExampleController.ExampleAction method to incorrectly become "virtual override":
[Code]....
The fix is to modify the "ProcessControllerActionMethods" method and replace the line that determines whether the method can be overriden with:

I'm searching for some extension methods that helps programming in ASP.NET. Some functions to work on controls, validators, AJAX or programing in C# in general.It could be methods library or your own methods.Do you know any source of those methods (other than CodePlex - that is good source of generic extensions) especially for ASP.NET?

I have an ASP.NET 3.5 web application that uses ASMX web services that are called synchronously. I want to see if I can call them asynchronously because some of the web methods take a long time to process and I'm concerned that this is affecting scalability.
I found this article that explains how to use Asychronous web methods, from 2002: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa480516.aspx. It says:
For asynchronous requests, during reflection the ASMX handler looks for Web methods with a certain kind of signature that it recognizes as being asynchronous. In particular, it looks for a pair of methods that have the following rules:
There is a BeginXXX and EndXXX Web method where XXX is any string that represents the name of the method you want to expose. The BeginXXX function returns an IAsyncResult interface and takes as its last two input parameters an AsyncCallback, and an object respectively. The EndXXX function takes as its only parameter an IAsyncResult interface. Both must be flagged with the WebMethod attribute. When I create the reference to my web service, I don't see any BeginXXX and EndXXX methods. I only see a XXXAsynch method and the article doesn't mention that method. I've done further research and every other article I've found also mentions the BeginXXX and EndXXX web methods.
