Can Send JSON String With Password In POST On HTTPS
Jun 16, 2012
Is it safe to send a POST to a web method with a JSON string containing a clear text version of a password for authentication?Who could sniff that password on the way from client to web method? I saw some posts a while ago on "salting" a password - is that something you do in JS on the client side and then "unsalt" on the server?

In my javascript code I am getting json string from cs file
var tmpString="<%=resultset2%>";
In cs I am concatenating strings to build json string. Here is an issue the json string is returned as a string and it has " with it.
"[{id:'1',name:'Aik'},{id:'2',name:'Aik or Aik'}]"
Because of " in beginning and end javascript code treat it as a string.

I'd like my application to query a csv file from a secure website. Currently I have the user login to the site, manually query the csv, and have my application load the file locally. I'd like to automate this by having the user enter his login information, authenticating him on the website, and querying the data. The application is written in C# .NET. The url of the site is: https://www2.emidas.com/default.asp.
I've tested the following code already and am able to access the file once the user has already authenticated himself and created a manual query.
System.Net.WebClient Client = new WebClient();
Stream strm = Client.OpenRead("https://www3.emidas.com/users/<username>/file.csv");
Here is the request sent to the site for authentication. I've angle bracketed the real userid and password.

I am kinda new to WCF and the setting up of service and have 2 questions. My first question I have a service that will be accessed via https on a web server. However locally on my local IIS7, it will be accessed via http as https is not available. How can I set up a service to be accessed by both?
My second question is regarding how I can set up a service that requires a username and password to be accessed. The service that I have in place I dont want methods within it to be accessed unless the calling application has the rights to do so?
Here is an example of the relevant area of my web.config file.
<system.serviceModel>
<bindings>
<webHttpBinding>
<!-- standard AJAX binding that supports SSL -->
<binding name="TransportSecurity">
<security mode="Transport" />
[Code].....
In this config, the service is set up for http only and not username/password applied to it.

Is there a way to force a non-secure form post to be secure? I understand there are ways to automatically resolve an http URL as an https URL but with form posts, is this type of redirection too late? Will the posted data have already gone through the wire as plain text?

For now, I just want to use HTTP POST to send json to asp.net mvc2 controller.Since the JSON is actually a list of JSON objects, and each of them has different fields & length, so it hard for me to make up a input model.So I want to know is there a way for me to post JSON without model/ajax to a controller in ASP.NET MVC2?

showStatus("Page deleted...", 10000);
I would like to instead pass showStatus() text that is returned by the $.post() call, rather than hardcoded text. How do I do this?

I wonder if I have any other method but a hidden field to post a JSON object to the server on full postback.
Imagine you have a form (with textboxes, checkboxes, etc) and you need to post a json string when the user post the form. This means, I would post all the form values + the json string but I can't come up with any solution but a hidden field.

I am trying to figure out how to send an image to Tuzulo using their api which appears to use JSON (quoted below). I have figured out how to receive information about what images I have with them and their URLs but cannot figure out how to send an image.
I have found lots of JSON examples but they all seem to show sending or receiving strings. Could someone give me a hint?
[URL]
Private API URLs These URLs require private keys, used for management and extension. To protect each upload, the private key must be known (saved, bookmarked, etc.). With an account, this becomes transparent.
[Code]....
<private-key>
Extend collection.
[Code]....
<private-key>
Manage collection.
Public keys are meant to be shared while private keys are meant to be temporarily bookmarked if necessary. Bookmarking is unnecessary when you're a site member.

I'm looking for a way to define and send a JSON object array. I've figured out how to define a single JSON object, turn it into a string and send it, but what about an array of this type? Probably something simple I'm overlooking...
var myColumnSetting = { "ColumnName": name,
"ColumnIndex": index
}
convert it to a string
var myJSONText = JSON.stringify(myColumnSetting, false);

i have an ASP.NET 4.0 HTTP handler that should receive and send data in json format. I'm using jquery to send json objects serialized in a string to the handler. It correctly sends the request but i don't know how i could retrieve the data from the httpcontext passed to the handler and how i could deserialize it..
UPDATE 1
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "myurl.ashx",
dataType: "json",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
data: $.toJSON({
...
}),
success: function (response) {
...
}

Upon clicking a button I need to send a collection and a few other variables to server in Json form.For each value in the collection the server code (C# ) wil update those other variables in the DB.
For example there is a ‘classnumber’ collection with values (First, Second, Third, ….),other variables (‘teacher_name’ and ‘subjectname’).For each value in the ‘classnumber’ collection I need to update the ‘teacher_name’ by searching for the ‘subject_name’ in the DB.So I need to pass the ‘classnumber’ collection,’teacher_name’,’subject_name’ values to server in json form. At the moment instead of sending the ‘classnumber’ collection I am sending ‘teacher_name’,’subject_name’,’classnumber’ as variables for each value in the collection ,which requires multiple requests made to the server.
Instead of these individual requests I am wondering if there is a way to send all the data at once to server in json form?

i built contact form in aspx 3.5 and i'm using jquery to send it to web service (asmx).the web service need to return success or error code. the problem is that at the web method i get only single value and not array. I'm kind of new in ajax and i tried a lot of solutions but without any results.. please if you can only explain me the principle of what to do it also be good..this is the client side:
$(document).ready(function()
{
$("#submit").click(function(event)
{
[code].....
when i debug i see that the input parameter "name" contains only one string - i dont know how to get the full json string that i send to the service and contains all the form data - i want to desirialize it to string array or something like, and process it.

I'm trying to make a call to a JSON ASP.NET web service with .NET.
It is ok when I send " { county : 'whatever' } ", but I get a 500 Internal Server error if I try for example " { county : 'It's ok' } ".
[Code]....
I've found some posts with examples but I cannot make it work:
" { county : "whatever" } " and " { "county" : "whatever" } " also works.
But either of " { county : "It's ok" } ", " { county : "It's ok" } " or any other combination that contains a single quote in the variable work.
How can I send a single quote inside a JSON call?

I am trying to send JSON from my mozilla addon to my asp.net page.
var myJSONObject = {"userName": una,"password": pass};
request = new XMLHttpRequest();
request.open("GET","http://www.google.com?jo=" + myJSONObject,true, null, null);
on my .net page I have tried several ways of doing it but not able to find the best way to serialize and deserialize the code. All I need is to send the json data back n forth and parse it on C# n javascript.
I have tried DataContractJsonSerializer, JavaScriptSerilizer among many other things. But not able to make any of it work. With the JavaScriptSerilizer, It does deserilize it if it takes an argument from the browser for e.g. If I open up the browser and paste something like [URL]} it does deserilize and return me individual values, but it does work when I do an XMLHTTPRequest (as above) from my mozilla addon.

I'm having a very hard time wrapping my head around this problem (it might be the heat from the summer finally arriving).
Problem:
I want the user to press a button client side which performs javascript data preparing and at last send a JSON structure to (currently a asmx webservice on) the server. The JSON structure is several levels deep.
Server side I create a PDF file which I want to send back to the user.
Goal:
The user feeling is that she presses a button and expects a PDF to return to her - either in a new window or as a download (preferrable).
Tools:
The system consists of (client side) HTML, JavaScript and ExtJS and (server side) ASP.NET.
Normally I would use an ashx handler to return a file to the client, but can I send a JSON structure to the handler and still be able to parse it correctly server side?
I am searching for the pattern to use.
