I have an asp.net2 WebForms project which worked fine, including referencing a dll compiled for .Net2.
Problem is that I have now recompiled the dll for .Net4 and have also 'upgraded' the VS2010 asp.net WebForms project to .Net4 and the asp.net WebForms application won't access the dll.
The first time the dll is called I get System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
The new dll is accessed by other WinForms applications OK.
Whatever the problem is, VS2010 freezes and I need to use Task Manager to close it down.
We are working on a SharePoint Site where we have created lot of webparts. Now so far we have been creating SitePages for these webparts manually and adding webparts to those. It takes lot of time in any environment and its difficult to move from environment to environment. What is the ideal way of doing it? How can we automate sitePage creation process and hopefully add webpart to it by some scripts?
We have a site and a logged in section of the site that all was written in classic asp. We are starting to convert the site pages to asp.net 3.5. We are starting with the easiest pages (text mainly) first then we will rewrite the web application part of the site.
My question is - Is it possible to run the new asp.net 3.5 pages with classic asp pages? Or will we need to rewrite everything before deploying?
I've recently been given the task of diagnosing and fixing an internally written asp site that is used to transfer large files internally and externally.
The user uploads a file and enters the receivers email address. The receiver can then click on the link which takes them to the retrieval section of the site.
The issue is although we currently have an upload limit of 100MB set within the web.config file "maxRequestLength=102400", when a user uploads a file of more than 60MB although the upload works and the file is copied to the server when the receiver tries to access it the page simply displays "Internet Explorer cannot display this page".
The site works fine for files that are smaller than 60MB so I don't think it's a code issue, but I can't be 100% certain.
While working with mutliple tabs of same browser, session varibles/object gets over written with latest one.
Scenario in my application:
I have to create new employee on first tab(tab #1), and updating existing employee details on second tab(tab #2).I stored employee other details in Session["dtInfo"], use it on saving the record. Now Session["dtInfo"] having details of latest tab created, i.e. tab #2. I tried to save record on tab #1, facing the problem of session gets over written.I had to check some vaules on OnInit and OnInitComplete event. But I get here wrong values in session.
I have a webservice, it has few webmethods. when i create a client proxy and invoke the methods to check its response, i am getting this error. Can someone tell me what things can i check to know the cause of this? The error is not saying much hence blocked on this.
I have the following code in my form load that loads the reports and assigns it to crystalreportviewer control. If Not IsPostBack Then
[Code]....
Following is the ApplyCRLogin Class
[Code]....
Now when I run the site it prompts me for the parameters and when I enter them and click on OK, I get the following error. "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." But the strange thing is if I comment the "If Not IsPostBack Then" condition, my report works fine. The problem is even when I want to go to the next page in report, the code get executed again and this takes time. Is there any other way to fix this?
I am have made a website which entertains its users(authenticated) to send sms. Website is available to users within my local network and outside (internet). I have designed two libraries, one for sending receiving sms and other one for processing those sms messages....But whenever page is refreshed, all the objects are initialized again blah blah resulting error for port 'Acess denied' For that I used object serialization etc. But I want to put my whole sms related work to separate process and use MSMQ between my website and sms process for communication. Please guide me that how can I run that separate sms process all the time and taking commands from website to send sms to whom etc?
Requirements:
1. SMS Process (background) should not have any interface but to communicate with using MSMQ only. 2. Website should be able to communicate with that SMS Process at any time using MSMQ, that is commands to send sms to whom, show received sms etc.
I am complete with all my website and sms engine work. All put all this in website but couldnt get reliablility. Please just guide me how and where to start for MSQM?
I work for an agency that has been responsible for maintaining a client's .net 3.5 website for a number of years along with another agency. Work is farmed out by the client to both agencies on a pretty much ad-hoc basis.
The site is quite old and has a structure and deployment process to match. The site is setup that developers have local copies of the sites. There is a staging environment, where client feedback and approval happens, followed by the live environment. There are a number of scenarios where work from one agency will be on the staging environment awaiting approval, and changes from the other agency need to go through staging, approval and deployed to live without the original changes being affected. Most of the time we get away with it but it's far from ideal as not all conflicts can be resolved.
Up until recently we had still been on Sourcesafe but have moved over to Subversion and are running into many more scenarios where work is overwritten. This obviously isn't a fault with subversion, rather that the locking of projects and files in Sourcesafe served as a good indicator to developers from both agencies that someone was working on that project or file. The process previously was that you checked out a file from sourcesafe and kept it checked out until changes went live (acknowledge that this is a rubbish process hence the desire to move away from sourcesafe and such a model)
The trouble is that even though we know that the way we do it now is bad, I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to restructure the overall site and deployment process to make it "better". Some ideas we've pondered are:
Separate dev, test and live branches in subversion so we need to commit and build the appropriate branch before deploying (not really sure how to make that work)Single repository for both agencies but a separate staging environment for each. Staging environment could then reflect the changes assigned to each agencyA separate instance of the staging site for each branch
I have two examples to show you what I want to achieve here. But to point what's different about my question, Is that I'm having a parametrized URLs and I want to implement URL rewriting to my application. But I don't want to convert the parameter in the URL to be placed between slashes..."page.aspx?number=one" to "pages/one/" << NOT!
First example:
http://localhost:1820/Pages/Default.aspx?page=2&start=5 To http://localhost:1820/Pages/page2
Second example:
http://localhost:1820/Items/Details.aspx?item=3 To http://localhost:1820/Items/ItemName
But I'll still need all the parameters in the original URLs
I have been looking around for a solution for this problem that works across different versions of Windows Server & IIS, but so far I couldn't find a reasonable solution, what I need is some sort of a script or a command line tool, that takes a certificate file (pfx) for example and then either using the same script or tool find a way to configure one website to use this certificate.
I'm getting an exception when trying to access an .asmx webservice within a MVC site. I've tried numerous things like updating the web reference within the console application and building another quick app to test, but can't get passed this issue. If I pull the URL out of the svc variable, I can browse to it directly.

The exception was coming out of the Web Service itself. There were some global variables not being initialized directly through the .asmx call that were being initialized by the application itself.
Some simple checks on variables within the Web Service and setting what needs to be set have fixed up the issue.
We're experiencing a nasty issue in Oracle 11g Release 2 where the w3wp process takes over and entire processor core, and debugging shows that the Oracle data provider is throwing ThreadAbortExceptions infinitely. A developer found this issue by doing the following:
1) Browse a web site that uses Oracle data connections locally (http://localhost/OracleWebSite - we use IIS, not the ASP.NET dev server, for all of our sites). This ensures that the w3wp process is running and that an active Oracle pool of connections exists in the app pool.2) Stop the web site (or perform a Rebuild All operation in Visual Studio on the web site in question). Our Oracle connection handling in the affected applications (all Oracle web apps) is well-established and robust. This issue does not occur if we disable connection pooling. This issue does not occur in Oracle 11g Release 1.
in my default.aspx page i have a dropdown List and a textbox with a submit button below that there are 2 listbox... and the dropdown list holds the names of the listbox
my logic here is to select an item from the dropdown list and put some text in the text box and submit the form which will add an item to the listbox selected.. but when i do this i get an error saying Object reference not set to an instance of an object. i tried to figure out the problem and found that when i remove the reference to the Site Master Page it works fine and when i undo and apply my reference back to the Site Master Page i get the same error.
this simple cause the problem is simpleA CCDD puling back 788 items works in .net 3.5 site, EXACT same site with just the build framework changed in Property pages to .net4, well it givies Method 500 error.Reducing the num of items to 698 works in .net 4.Played around with the maxJsonLength (5000000 999999999 etc) setting in webconfig for a day. Made no difference.Data saved as a csv is 23kb or 3000 characters acording to word.
I have created firstly ASP.NET MVC 2. and write more functionality. After I create asp.NET Dynamic Data Site. now, when I click on run button in Visual Studio, mvc app. opened in browser as [URL]. and asp.NET Dynamic Data Site as [URL]. but i want to merge this app. in one. can I use asp.NET Dynamic Data Site and asp.NET MVC-2 at the same time?
I have isolated the problem in two project which are the same except one targets 3.5 and the other 4.0This is breaking my app, and really causing major headaches. This is the mapping of the route:
[Code]....
Which uses a custom contraint:
[Code]....
This is the controller Action [Code]....
In Home/Index.aspx I have created a few links:
[Code]....
All link have a different link text wich I use here to reffer to themThis generates the following links which are in my opinion faulty in both frameworks, but 4.0 offers no workaround. In 3.5:
actionlink = /Home/Special (?) actionlink routevalues = /MyPrefix (This is what I want) routelink= / (?)
I used Object Test Bench to test my classes in VS 2008 professional edition . Right click on Class name and then selected create instance ,then its Constructor, there comes a dialog box, that just gives a message and a TextBox field is present there, i filled that field with any name and clicked OK.Then error message comes that "Create Instance Failed" and its error code is "0x80004005" . What's this ? How to instantiate object of my classes ?
You can create a thread given a delegate to method, can I create a process in the same way? I want to do that to be able to close the child process from task manger if something goes wrong.
