C# - SoapException Server Was Unable To Process Request On ASMX Webservice In MVC Site?
Mar 9, 2011
I'm getting an exception when trying to access an .asmx webservice within a MVC site. I've tried numerous things like updating the web reference within the console application and building another quick app to test, but can't get passed this issue. If I pull the URL out of the svc variable, I can browse to it directly.

The exception was coming out of the Web Service itself. There were some global variables not being initialized directly through the .asmx call that were being initialized by the application itself.
Some simple checks on variables within the Web Service and setting what needs to be set have fixed up the issue.
I have a webservice, it has few webmethods. when i create a client proxy and invoke the methods to check its response, i am getting this error. Can someone tell me what things can i check to know the cause of this? The error is not saying much hence blocked on this.
I have created a web service that interacts with my DAL. It has the usual kind of methods, create, retrieve, update and delete. I have published this web service to our live Windows Server and I can see the web serice URL. The web service works on a few method calls but does not work specifically for one object. I am getting the following error: Fault Exception was unhandled by user code. "Server was unable to process request. ---> Data is Null. This method or property cannot be called on Null values."
To summarise: Web service is live, I can see it in my browser. Some method calls work. One specific one does not. I have verified that the method works (it is just calling a SQL stored proc that does return data).
I have made web service, when it is accessed by remote computer to send me the data using this web service then the following errors shows on the remote computer:-
"Server was unable to process request..A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)"
When I am trying to invoke a method using a proxy class i get error
"System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at ..."
I have a Asp.net webservice. This webservice uses a dll ( the purpose of the dll is to listen at a port say 3305 and accept the request from one of its client (say client is some name PG and this client is different from webservice client) and the dll keeps communicating to the PG client to get some data.)
The webservice works like this.
When a request comes from my test program to Webservice, the webmethod calls the dll api ( to establish the connection between the dll and PG client). and after the connection is established between dll and PG client, the webmethod uses the data from my test program and implements some business logic and then returns some values to the test program.
After the first request from my test program is processed, the connection between DLL and PG will still be existing so as to serve the subsequent request from the test program.
The problem is after the first request is finished, the second request is not being processed by webservice, the request doesnot come to the webmethod or even to the class constructor.
is the connection between the DLL and PG , hanging up the webservice?
I am not sure how to write soap exception. What are the steps to write soapException. Somebody can explian?
<WebMethod(MessageName:="get_output_information")> _ Public Function get_output_information (ByVal tran_id As Object) As DataSet Try 'do some code here 'do some code here Return ds1 Catch ex As Exception Throw New ArgumentException("An Error occurred while processing output information.") End Try End Function
I have a new asmx web service (written with .Net 3.5), I'll be accessing this service from a Silverlight 3 app, and I want to add the service to an existing asp.net web site (written with .Net 2.0). How do I go about doing that? I tried the obvious route of just copying the entire project folder to the web site, but I experienced a number of errors when trying to view the asmx page from a browser.
There's already a service on the web site, and all it has is the asmx file, the dll and a web.config in the folder, and that's where I'm at right now with me new service. It appears to instantiate just fine, but when I call a method in t, nothing happens (the AsyncCompleted events never fire).
But when I refer to that webservice (as shown below), I get error saying: "The type or namespace name 'MyServices' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)"
What should I do to correct this error?
Current Solution of Adding Service Reference still gives me that error.
I have a production web application that uses <authentication mode="Windows"/> I have added an .asmx page with a method in it. I'd like to test making calls to it from a separate client web app. When I do this I get the error: The request failed with HTTP status 401: Access Denied What do I need to do in my client app to access this webservice?
have a working ASP.NET 3.5 webservice that accepts standard POST requests using an encoding type of application/x-www-form-urlencoded. I then added a method which needs to accept an uploaded file. We change the encoding type of the request to multipart/form-data so that we can get the file data and now we receive the following error:System.InvalidOperationException: Request format is invalid: multipart/form-data
I am trying to consume a webservice. I added the web reference. But when i try to access the method, I am getting the error as:"The request failed with HTTP status 401: Unauthorized."The web service has username as "user1", password as "pass".I tried this:
Service1.TestPrcsService serv = new Service1.TestPrcsService(); serv.PreAuthenticate = true; serv.Custom_methodname(true);
How to pass the username and password to access the method?
I am developing the web site, It consists of device name list and related Build Button. When one click the Build button the one process will run in server. When more than ten user click the Build button more processes will create at that server will hang. How can send all request from client to single process in server.
WebApp1: on IIS and configured with Windows authentication. Get User account from AD.
WebAPP2: a java web app on another windows box in same domain with authentication from AD
On web app1, I have a http handler like
public class MyHandler : IHttpHandler { public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context) { string url = "http://WebApp2/Test"; HttpWebRequest myReq = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url); CredentialCache myCache = new CredentialCache(); NetworkCredential netCredential = new NetworkCredential("myname", "mypassword", ""); myCache.Add(new Uri(url), "Basic", netCredential); //... myReq.Credentials = myCache; //.... } }
in above way, I can set authentication in code and pass it WebApp2.
But I don't want to put name and password in code. User info already available on WebApp1: in context.User I can find out the user info who already logined into WebApp1, so I want to pass this credential to WebApp2. I have tried to do following:
Unable to start debugging on the web server. The IIS worker process for the launched URL is not currently running.I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, VS 2008 sp1.When I first try to debug I get the error msg above. I wait a few minutes (presumably some service is starting) and debugging will start but no breakpoints are recognized. Some of the things I've tried:Changing the binding of my site from a static IP to "*".
Enabled windows authentication.made sure localhost = 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file. The website was built under windows xp and whatever version of IIS ships with xp. My web config has no errors that I know of but might be missing something required for iis 7 (??)
i have some aspx page that handle form data submit from few websites. how can i retrieve the ip of the site (server) that send the request? (not the ip of the user that use the site and fill the form) if the form is hosted in server like 55.343.33.343 i need to retrieve to the handler page this ip. (Just to be clear : the handler.aspx is hosting in one server xx.xx.xxx.xx and the forms hosting in other servers cc.ccc.cc.cc, yy.yyy.yy.yy etc
I have installed/compiled mono, xsp and mod_mono. But how do I configure apache to use it? I tried including the mod_mono.conf file and apache does see the module and loads it but when I visit an asp page I getService Temporarily UnavailableThe server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems.
