Clearing The Value Of File Upload Control Using Javascript That Works On All Browser?
Sep 24, 2010
We are running following javascript function:
function btn_AddToList_Click() {
var filePath = document.getElementById("FileUpload").value;
if(filePath.length > 0)
{
var opt = new Option(filePath,filePath);
var listBox = document.getElementById("ListBox");
listBox.options[listBox.options.length] = opt;
}
}
Function binding:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!IsPostBack)
{
btn_AddToList.Attributes.Add("onclick", "btn_AddToList_Click(); return false;");
}
}
HTML:
asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload" runat="server" Width="394px"
asp:ListBox ID="ListBox" runat="server" Width="394px"
asp:Button ID="btn_AddToList" runat="server" Enabled="true" Text="Add"
Issue is that value of "FileUpload" is not get cleared after we click "Add" button.

I am having fileupload control having its "multiple" attribute equals to "multiple". I am facing a weird issue in CHROME browser. The isse is that onchange event of file upload control is not firing for more than 12 files selected at once. The event is firing if I have 10 files selected at once. On FF and Safari it is working fine. Here is the code:
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

I'd like to understand what happen under the hood when you do an web upload. I guess one of these: The file is loaded in memory by the browser, sent to the web server buffer memory, and then the app is notified to collect it. The file is being readed by the browser and at the same time sent to the web server, that can start to save the bytes progresively. I've tried to upload a very large file, and put a breakpoint on the frist line of the method receiving the upload. I've seen how the browser toke a lot of time loading... but the breakpoint was still not hit, and after a while the breakpoint is hit. I want to understand this, because in the worst scenario, if I allow big uploads, they could blow up the server memory at some point. What does happen if I upload a 2Gb file? (considering that the web server/app accepts that length) would it take 2Gb of server memory?

I am using the async file upload control to upload to a image file. I want the user to upload only jpg files. And for that I am checking the uploadedfile content type in server side, after the upload complets. I wanna check this, before upload starts. There is one javascript method
function startUpload(sender, args){}
but how to access the content type of the file selected by user.

I want to upload files to the web servers from the client machines.
Can i upload a file on a network share folder using file upload control?
I would like to create a share folder on a file server sitting next to the web server. If i upload the file from the network share folder instead of uploading it from the client machine does it make any difference?
Will the file be stored in a temporary location before copying to the final destination? Where will be the file stored in this case of uploading it from share folder?

I am looking for the restrictions on file upload sizes per browser and environment to try and find my bottleneck. I've been told it's 2 gigs but I don't know where/what the limiting factor is. Specifically, I'm looking for the max size for each of the below:
Firefox
IE
Chrome
IIS 6
IIS 7.5
ASP.NET 4.0
Note: We are using native browser upload; no flash, java, or the like

I have a file upload control on my page with a regular expression validator that handles the file format.
Users can upload files but I want the maximum WIDTH size to be 500px.
If any bigger I need to show a message advising the width is to great and stops them.

To prevent duplicate requests (i.e. pressing F5 right after clicking a command button), I've setup my page base class to ignore the request if it's detected as a duplicate.
When I say 'ignore' I mean Response.End()
Now I thought I've seen this work before, where there's an issue, I just Response.End() and the users page just does nothing. I don't know the exact circumstance in which this worked, but I'm unable to repeat it now.
Now when I call Response.End(), I just get an empty browser. More specifically, I get this html.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=utf-8"></HEAD>
<BODY></BODY></HTML>
I setup the following test app to confirm the problem is not elsewhere in my app. Here it is:
Add the following to an aspx form
<asp:Label ID="lbl" Text="0" runat="server" /><br />
<asp:Button ID="btnAdd1" Text="Add 1" runat="server" /><br />
<asp:Button ID="btnAdd2" Text="Add 2" runat="server" /><br />
<asp:Button ID="btnAdd3" Text="Add 3" runat="server" /><br />
And here's the code behind file
using System;
namespace TestDupRequestCancellation
{
public partial class _Default : System.Web.UI.Page
{
protected void Page_Init(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
btnAdd1.Click += btnAdd1_Click;
btnAdd2.Click += btnAdd2_Click;
btnAdd3.Click += btnAdd3_Click;
}
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!IsPostBack)
CurrentValue = 0;
else if (Int32.Parse(lbl.Text) != CurrentValue)
Response.End();
}
protected void Page_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
lbl.Text = CurrentValue.ToString();
}
protected int CurrentValue
{
get
{
return Int32.Parse(Session["CurrentValue"].ToString());
}
set
{
Session["CurrentValue"] = value.ToString();
}
}
void btnAdd3_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
CurrentValue += 3;
}
void btnAdd2_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
CurrentValue += 2;
}
void btnAdd1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
CurrentValue += 1;
}
}
}
When you load the page, clicking any button does what is expected, but if you press F5 at any time after pressing one of the buttons, it will detect it as a duplicate request and call Response.End() which promptly ends the task. Which leaves the user with an empty browser.
Is there anyway to leave the user with the page as it was, so they can just click a button?
Also; please note that this code is the simplest code I could come up with to demonstrate my problem. It's not meant to demonstrate how to check for dup requests.
EDIT: Another change that will allow me to achieve the same results would be to disable all my event handlers.

We're investigating if it's possible to have the following: A webpage with multiple 'folders' to which a user can drag & drop a files. It's meant to be used as an interface to upload scanned documents to an archive. For example, we would have page that states: 'Quotes', 'Invoices' & 'Misc'. Depending on the sort of document the user would drag & drop the file from the local file system to one of these three folders. It should then upload the file to the correct folder on the web server

I'm using a slightly modified version of Valum's upload [github link], I've modified it to upload to a database but haven't modified the javascript that it is using to get the file into the Request as an InputStream. The following line of code is failing in IE 8 but is confirmed to work in Chrome. using (Image imgInput = Image.FromStream(Request.InputStream)) The error received is "Parameter not valid". It appears to be having an issue with the Input Stream being used but it exists/has data (not sure how to validate if the data is good or not).

Currently i am having an UploadFile action result that is working.
My form looks like that:[Code]....
If i select a file with "file1" input and i press the "submit" button, the file is "found" and saved in code-behind file.My "showUpload" javascript function looks like that:[Code]....
It is triggering the same UploadFile Action result, but it doesn't find any file [:(]
Here is my ActionResult script
[Code]....
So, if i am selecting file and i press "submit" button, Request.Files has 1 file, but if i press the standard "upload file" button, Request.Files has 0 files

Every thing is working fine, except for the fact that when i try to upload the file on the server i am getting an error: (probably some authorization exception).
do i need to give some rights to the upload up there on the server. If so then for which account and do i need to restart the server after giving rights?

My requirement is to get the file size in client side. there is no problem in FF but in IE you can't do that unless u r using an activeX object. So we thought of putting it in browser cache and reading the file size from there and when we post it to the server we will be taking it from the cache and send it to the server.
