MVC :: Upload File Works Only With "submit" Button?
Mar 9, 2010
Currently i am having an UploadFile action result that is working.
My form looks like that:[Code]....
If i select a file with "file1" input and i press the "submit" button, the file is "found" and saved in code-behind file.My "showUpload" javascript function looks like that:[Code]....
It is triggering the same UploadFile Action result, but it doesn't find any file [:(]
Here is my ActionResult script
[Code]....
So, if i am selecting file and i press "submit" button, Request.Files has 1 file, but if i press the standard "upload file" button, Request.Files has 0 files

I am using upload feature in my asp website. So i am using file input type. But this control add a default upload button browse and a textbox where path is shown after selecting file in Internet explorer. I don't want to show browse button etc. So what i did is add a button "Attach a File" and i have written script 'triggerFileUpload' function where i make it to click on upload control.
So now when i click on "Attach a File" button browse for file windows appears and can select file to upload. But when i click on submit button the file upload control becomes reset and file is not uploaded. Error is that on clicking to submit button the file control becomes null. It happens only in internet explorer.
Below is code which can show the problem i am facing in IE.Same problem comes if i use asp:FileUpload control also. (my plan is to hide the file control and show only attach file button to user).
Code:
<%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="_Default" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

I am trying to build a form in asp.net 1.1, the problem I am facing is when I run the page on http everything works fine, but on https it submits the page with out any validation on client side. The page supposed to validate fields which it does on http but not https.
Page works in all other browsers. FF,chrome,safari,ie6, ie7, the problem is only in IE8 and only when the page moves to https.
Using windows server 2003 on IIS v6.0.

I am creating a page which contains an updatepanel.
In this update panel there is a grid view in which there is a button. on click of this button i m showing a dialog box which takes some inputs and submits data.
However this all is working very fine untill and unless I use some requiredfieldvalidators to validate the input.
when i use validators, these validators works very fine bt the submit button on popup does not work.
I had tried to use validation group but it still does not work at all.

I'd like to understand what happen under the hood when you do an web upload. I guess one of these: The file is loaded in memory by the browser, sent to the web server buffer memory, and then the app is notified to collect it. The file is being readed by the browser and at the same time sent to the web server, that can start to save the bytes progresively. I've tried to upload a very large file, and put a breakpoint on the frist line of the method receiving the upload. I've seen how the browser toke a lot of time loading... but the breakpoint was still not hit, and after a while the breakpoint is hit. I want to understand this, because in the worst scenario, if I allow big uploads, they could blow up the server memory at some point. What does happen if I upload a 2Gb file? (considering that the web server/app accepts that length) would it take 2Gb of server memory?

We are running following javascript function:
function btn_AddToList_Click() {
var filePath = document.getElementById("FileUpload").value;
if(filePath.length > 0)
{
var opt = new Option(filePath,filePath);
var listBox = document.getElementById("ListBox");
listBox.options[listBox.options.length] = opt;
}
}
Function binding:
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!IsPostBack)
{
btn_AddToList.Attributes.Add("onclick", "btn_AddToList_Click(); return false;");
}
}
HTML:
asp:FileUpload ID="FileUpload" runat="server" Width="394px"
asp:ListBox ID="ListBox" runat="server" Width="394px"
asp:Button ID="btn_AddToList" runat="server" Enabled="true" Text="Add"
Issue is that value of "FileUpload" is not get cleared after we click "Add" button.

I've read several questions explaining how to handle file uploads in asp.net mvc. I am trying to submit both the file as well as form fields describing it. That might be the issue. I'll go write to the code:
View code:
<% using (Html.BeginForm("CreateFile", "Video", FormMethod.Post, new { enctype = "multipart/form-data" }))
{%>
<fieldset>
<legend>Fields</legend>
<p>
<label for="file">Filename:</label>
<input type="file" name="file" id="file" />
</p>
<p>
<label for="Password">Password:</label>
<%= Html.TextBox("Password")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage("Password", "*")%>
</p>
<p>
<label for="Description">Description:</label>
<%= Html.TextBox("Description")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage("Description", "*")%>
</p>
<p>
<label for="DateUploaded">DateUploaded:</label>
<%= Html.TextBox("DateUploaded")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage("DateUploaded", "*")%>
</p>
<p>
<label for="DateRecorded">DateRecorded:</label>
<%= Html.TextBox("DateRecorded")%>
<%= Html.ValidationMessage("DateRecorded", "*")%>
</p>
<p>
<input type="submit" value="Submit" />
</p>
</fieldset>
<% } %>
Controller code:
[AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post)]
public ActionResult CreateFile(VideoDTO video, HttpPostedFileBase f) //[Bind(Exclude="VideoId")]
{
foreach (string file in Request.Files)
{
HttpPostedFileBase hpf = Request.Files[file] as HttpPostedFileBase;
if (hpf.ContentLength == 0)
continue;
string savedFileName = Server.MapPath("Videos") + Path.GetFileName(hpf.FileName);
hpf.SaveAs(savedFileName);
video.FileName = hpf.FileName;
}
repository.CreateVideo(video);
return RedirectToAction("Index");
}
I've seen several examples, but haven't come across one that is trying to submit both a file and other form data. Some other things of note is other examples seem to not put a HttpVerb attribute on the action method at all and have an empty parameter string. The files I'm looking to accept will be video files of various types but they can be anywhere from 100-300 mb. The files I've attempted to use (locally) have been rather small comparatively (50 or so mb).I know it's been asked but I feel like my issue here is different somehow. When I submit the page I see:
The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

This works in other browsers but not in chrome. I am trying to allow users to upload large files and have an ajax call to update them on the progress of the file upload.
So a unique ID is generated on the client side and added to the action of the form before sending. Then the form is submitted (form only contains a file upload input) and an ajax call is made to get the progress of the upload. The ajax call goes to another page and uses the ID to lookup the upload.
I am using JQuery 1.5.1. Debugging this and putting something on the error function give me nothing other than "error". Not very helpful. I used Chrome's debugger and it just says failed to load resource xxxx.aspx. xxx.aspx is the URL i needed. Turns out that there seems to be some sort of conflict between the form and the ajax call.

I'm trying to figure how to on a submit button execute an sql file.
We have a job recruiting application, and for the subsidiaries companies they all have their own database setup for the jobs. At night the application has a consolidator script built in to pull all the jobs posted in those companies and load the posting into the parent companies website job listing. This listing will then point back to the Subsidiary website for the applicant to apply.
The issue with that script is the time it took to execute which is 20hrs to run as a scheduled task. We have created a more efficient script and would like to place a submit button in the admin panel for the HR recruiters to click which will automatically upload their updated job listings to the parent company.
So what would be the proper coding framework to use on the submit form to execute our new consolidator sql script?

I'm working on an ASP.NET application. Currently when the user clicks "Save" on an item, we disable the Save button, change its text to "Saving..." and so on. This works fine, because the button causes a postback which results in a new page being loaded, on which the Save button is no longer disabled.
We now want to apply this to other actions: Publish (not much different from Save), Import (again, much like Save, but based on data the user has uploaded in a previous step), Export (downloads an XML file to the user) etc.
Export is causing me problems - the button stays disabled. I think this is because the server sends back an XML file rather than a new web page, and so the browser just displays the same page.
The server-side code is along the lines of
Response.Clear();
Response.BufferOutput = true;
Response.ContentType = "text/xml";
Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + whatever);
[push file contents into Response.OutputStream]
Response.End();
a way of making the server send a fresh page back in the response as well as the XML, thus re-enablnig the button in the same manner that the other pages do, ora way of getting the browser/JS to re-enable the button once the file has been sent.

I'm using a slightly modified version of Valum's upload [github link], I've modified it to upload to a database but haven't modified the javascript that it is using to get the file into the Request as an InputStream. The following line of code is failing in IE 8 but is confirmed to work in Chrome. using (Image imgInput = Image.FromStream(Request.InputStream)) The error received is "Parameter not valid". It appears to be having an issue with the Input Stream being used but it exists/has data (not sure how to validate if the data is good or not).
