Configuration :: Add Namespace In Child Web.config?
Mar 8, 2010
I have a really tricky problem that I just don't seem to find a fix to. I have looked "everywhere" and this is my last hope.
In the root I have a web.config with a few namespaces added in the <pages> tag.
Then, I will use one subfolder for every customer with a unique web.config for each customer. Thing is that the scripts on the sites depend on a specific class for each company, located in App_Code / CustomerSpecific / <customername> / CustomerConstants.vb
Every class is embedded in a namespace with the customers name. So, if we only had one customer then the web.config in the root could say:
add namespace="customer1"
But, my plan is that every web.config in each customerfolder shall state what company name to use.
Then I can read just this customer's settings in the vb from the right file depending on the namespace.
Here comes the problem, when I test this, the site in the customer folder only reads the namespaces in the root web.config (I have tested with appsettings though and they read perfectly even from the child web.config, so there's no problem in reading from it). So something seems to be the matter with adding namespaces in the root web.config and then adding others in the child web.config.
Before you answer; yes, I have tried with both <clear /> and <remove> specific namespaces and it doesn't work anyway. The namespaces in the root web.config seems to be overriding anyway.
I am running into a problem with a web.config in a child project that has the same connection string setting as a parent. We have this in several of our web apps but there is one case where we want a child not to use the parent web.config. Is there a setting or command in the child web.config to ignore the parent web.config?
I am trying to put the namespace value as a key in web.config file, so that when I deploy this on production, I just have to change the namespace key in the config file only, not on all of my webservice cs files. But When I try to browse this webservice after changing this code I get compilation error.
web.config:
[Code]....
MyWebService.cs (this code works)
[Code]....
Compiler Error Message: CS0182: An attribute argument must be a constant expression, typeof expression or array creation expression of an attribute parameter type
I am relatively new to asp.net environment.Recently working on a project, i discovered a problemi.e. I had to add using system.io to all file functions in any page. same for using sql functionsi.e. any method for that namespace had to be used in full like By adding the following section in web.config , ALL my pages automatically have access to that namespace
If I add a namespace element to the system.web pages namespaces section of the web.config do I still have to add references in the code behinds in order to have access to the members of that namespace at design-time?
in MyWeb there are all the aspx page and some entites datamodel, in MyApp there are the class with function like "getter data from DB" and there is a entity data model.
afeter the deploy, I have only the web.config and the connection string for the entity datamodel....itīs run ok, read/write the data on the DB.
The problem is with MyApp.....after the deploy it is a dll file and I donīt have the app.config and the entity inside it donīt run, not read/write nothing on the DB.
There arenīt error or messager but not read/write the data in the MyApp project.
all run on the iis 7
now...the question is:
I lose the connection string (in app.config) after the deploy?
Can I put a entity in the MyWeb and read it in another project (myApp)?
I am developing web applicaiton. I want to read web.config in App.config file. I have appSettings and connectionStrings in web.config. How to read that?
While using a third party dll I was getting the following exception - "exePath must be specified when not running inside a stand alone exe" with following trace
The reason I found was that it was looking for app.config and I had provided the details in web.config. My question is why does the system.configuration differentiate between web.config and app.config.
I upgrade my application from .NET 2.0 to .NET 4.0. Everything went smooth, with very few errors. Now the code is compiling fine, but run time environment is loading the configuration parameters from app.config instead of web.config; Here is my setup:Objects project: has app.configUI project: has web.config, When I run this site, it is fetching the configuration parameters from app.config. Any idea if I need to make any changes to read it from web.config instead of app.config? It used to work fine in my previous environment.
I get the following error when i moved my site:The type or namespace name 'PdfConverter' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)i had my site hosted at one shared hosting adn i moved it as is to the other shared hosting account.the bin folder still contains the dll in question.. but i get the error above..any suggestions as to why i amgetting the error?for now i do not hav any IDE at hand so the solution would be mroe helpful, at least for now, if i can solve the issue witout visual studio..
The type or namespace name 'DocumentFormat' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)' errors even though the dll is on both machines and references are in the two relevant projects. The errors are only coming up in one project in the (web) application and the app is building as expected on my machine.
I have a using statment and the same page works in my developement web server. I copied the dll from the bin folder to the bin folder on my production webserver. What would the problem be? Could it be i am missing the assembly reference? I really dont understand how when i add a reference to my website in vs2008 that gets transferred to the website. I thought if i have the dll in the bin folder thats all i gotta do. In the dataaccess.cs file the namespace is
I want to use the DataContractJsonSerializer class. This is contained within theSystem.Runtime.Serialization.Json namespace and the System.ServiceModel.Web dll.or some reason, when I add the using directive for the namespace, Visual Studio says it doesn't recognise the Json namespace in System.Runtime.Serialization.When I try to add the System.ServiceModel dll, nothing happens, which suggests to me it's already referenced. (Because nothing also happens when I try to add a reference to System.Web which is definitely referenced!)
I built my ASP.NET website using vs2008 professional.
Now I have purchased vs2010 professional edition.
I do format my computer and then installed vs2010.
Now I want to deploy my website in vs2010, but it is giving configuration error in <add assemblies...

Web.config is the main settings and configuration file for an ASP.NET web application. The file is an XML document that defines configuration information regarding the web application. The web.config file contains information that control module loading, security configuration, session state configuration, and application language and compilation settings. Web.config files can also contain application specific items such as database connection strings
Example 1:
<!-- This is an example Web.config file -->

In this article, we will see how to read the configuration settings in the web.config using 'JavaScript'.
Step 1: Create a new ASP.NET website. Add a button control to the Default.aspx.
Step 2: Right click the project > Add New Item > Web Configuration File
Add the following sample entry to the appSettings section in the web.config between the <configuration> tag as shown in the example 1:
<add key="var1" value="SomeValue"/>
Step 3: To read these entries using JavaScript, add the following script in the <head> tag of your Default.aspx page as shown below:
<head runat="server"> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript"> function ReadConfigSettings() { var v1 = '<%=ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["var1"].ToString() %>' alert(v1); } </script> </head> Step 4: Call this function on a button click and display the values of the configuration settings
<input type="button" value="Get" onclick="ReadConfigSettings();" /> That's it. Run the application and click the button. The value of the key in the appSettings will be displayed in the alert window. I hope you liked this short article.
I keep getting the all-too-familiar Report Viewer Configuration error, even after double-checking changes in web.config.It worked fine yesterday morning. Then by late afternoon, after I uploaded some site changes, it reverted to throwing the error.Report Viewer Configuration Error The Report Viewer Web Control HTTP Handler has not been registered in the application's web.config file. Add <add verb="*" path="Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd" type = "Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler, Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=10.0.0
App is imported in the parent web.config file, Tom and App have classes with the same names. To avoid errors resulting from ambiguous class names I removed the App namespace from the sub-directory where the Tom namespace is used.
However the namespace App is still imported on content pages that have a master page outside the Tom directory. This causes the aforementioned errors. Here is my dir structure
-Root Directory --Default.master --web.config (App is added in web.config) --Tom Sub-diretory ---web.config (App is removed in web.config) ---Content page that uses Default.master (Here is the problem) ---Page without master (Works OK)
aspnet_regiis.exe -pdf "connectionStrings" c:web.config And this is the error I got. Error - "The configuration for physical path 'C:Web.Config' cannot be opened. And the permissions of that file is not read only.
