Get Custom Properties Common Profile?

Aug 16, 2010

How do I get access to my custom strong-named properties of the common profile (page.profile) in ASP.NET for a classes that does not derive from page? I thought I could just pass in httpcontext.profile but I'm missing the custom properties.

There should be some class type that I can pass in? It appears the class type is ProfileCommon and is auto-generated.

C# - Webservice Complex Types And Class Inheritance - Use The Properties Of The Base Class?

Mar 13, 2010

Using the following Webservice definition using aClientArgs as a complex type:

[System.Web.Script.Services.ScriptService]
public class Controller : System.Web.Services.WebService {
[WebMethod]
public void save_client(aClientArgs client)
{
// Save client data
}
}
Then defining aClientArgs as a sub-class:
public class aArgs
{
public string id = null;
public string name = null;
}
public class aClientArgs : aArgs
{
public string address = null;
public string website = null;
}
Returns the following WSDL fragment for the save_client args:
<save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/">
<client>
<address>string</address>
<website>string</website>
</client>
</save_client>
When I'm expecting the following:
<save_client xmlns="http://tempuri.org/">
<client>
<id>string</id>
<name>string</name>
<address>string</address>
<website>string</website>
</client>
</save_client>

So it appears that the .NET WebService is not treating inherited properties as arguments/variables for purposes of a web service. How do I get .NET to also use the properties of the base class?

Security :: Accessing Custom Profile Properties?

Mar 5, 2010

We have added some custom profile properties to the web.config - what we want to do is have the code access them once (when user logs in) and cache this so that the code doesn't have to hit the database each time we call Profile.<our custom profile property name>

What we see is a call to GetProperties or GetProfile each time we access Profile. <our custom profile property name> - whats the recommended way to do this?

ADO.NET :: Programmatically Change Membership Profile Properties?

Mar 23, 2011

I am working in a Silverlight 4 + RIA Services application. On the server side I am using Entity Framework and SQL Server. The user authentication is performed in the application using the default ASP.NET Membership Provider.

I am also using some profile properties to store some user preferences. Unfortunately I came across a situation where I have to change one of this properties in all users.

Altought I am using EF to manage data persistence, the ASP Membership provider tables are not in my entities diagram, since everything I must do regarding membership is performed using the objects available on the provider.

So I was thinking to use this objects to change the user prefrences, but my question is about what happens if something fails? Is there any transaction object I could use on the Membership objects to perform an atomic operation?

I know EF supports transactions, but in this case I would have to add the asp.net membership tables to my diagram.. only for that operation.

Security :: Profile Class Not Generated Automatically?

Feb 18, 2010

I'm new to this forum, Ok here is the problem. I tried to implement the user profile pattern that provided by ASP.Net 2.0, first I added this couple of tags to the web.config

<system.web>
<anonymousIdentification
enabled="true"/>
<profile>
<properties>
<add
name="Name"
allowAnonymous="true"/>
<add
name="Age"
allowAnonymous="true"
type="System.Int16"/>
<group
name="User">
<add
name="Category"
allowAnonymous="true"/>
<add
name="MemberSince"
allowAnonymous="true"
type="System.DateTime"/>
<group>
<properties>
<profile>

Then I buit the project and moved to the page code behind, the surpise is that I didn't have the Profile object in the intellisense.

Web Forms :: XML Serialization Of A Class For Storage In The Profile Not Deserializing?

May 13, 2010

I'm trying to store some business objects in a SQLProfileProvider Profile property, however my business objects use public properties, not fields. This means I can't serialize as binary (correct?) so I'm serializing as XML. I've got the basic XML.Serialization attributes on the business objects, basically just XMLRoot and XMLElements with Type properties and an XMLArray attribute for a collection<T>. When I look at the data in the aspnet_Profile table, sure enough, it looks like an XML representation of my BOs:

[Code]....

Additionally, it works fine while the user is logged in.However, if the user logs out and logs back in, the profile property is a new instance of the BO, not what was saved in the profile. What am I missing here?

MVC :: Can't Reference To Some Properties In Model Class

Mar 31, 2010

I'm reading a bit of Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework and following a few tutorials written in the book. In the very first tutorial, creating a MVC site for dinner (PartyInvites), I encoutered this problem. While I try to reference some properties from Model class, the compilation error occured. Eg. the following code failed.

[Code]....

and the error message

Compiler Error Message:
CS1061: 'object' does not contain a definition for 'Name' and no extension method 'Name' accepting a first argument of type 'object' could be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) I imported the Model folder into the controller too. I dunno what I'm missing here. Sorry, if it sounds a bit umm hard to understand cuz I just started picking up MVC this morning. Looking for any input.

Set View Properties From Another Class / Interface?

Nov 16, 2010

There is a SearchPage which has a properties ErrorMessage, SuccessMessage etc. This is basically a MVP pattern so for each page(view) there is IView that contains definitions for all the properties

I am using decoratoe pattern to set these peoperties dependingon the message type. There is another Interface IBaseMessage which has a method DisplayMessage() and a class BaseMessage which implements the interface. This class has a definition of the view

Interface IbaseMessage
{
DisplayMessage()
}
baseMessage:IbaseMessage
{
public Iview _view{get; set;}
DisplayMessage()
{
_view.Warning ="<message>"
_view.error="<message>"
}

Here, I am not able to set the message to the view properties. I am getting the error as "Object reference not set to an instance of the object"

Chained Base Class Properties Not Injecting

Apr 2, 2010

I am successfully injecting base class properties with spring.net with just a class that inherits from a base abstract class. Lets say Class MyClass : MyBase, and I am successfully setting a property like this:

<object id="myInstantiableClass" type="myAssembly.MyClass myAssenbly" abstract="true">
<property name="MyBaseClassProperty" ref="anotherObjRef"></property> </object>

Where MyBaseClassProperty is a property on the base class. Now I have another abstract class between the old base class and the instantiable class and I am trying to set properties on both the abstract classes. So MyClass : MyNewBaseClass and MyNewBaseClass : MyBaseClass. I have an additional property on the new base class (MyNewBaseClassProperty) and I am trying to inject it like this:

<object id="myInstantiableClass" type="myAssembly.MyClass myAssenbly" abstract="true">
<property name="MyBaseClassProperty" ref="anotherObjRef"></property>
<property name="MyNewBaseClassProperty" ref="someOtherObjRef"></property>
</object>

The property on the old base class is being injected but the one on the new one is not - and I am not getting an error or anything (so I am pretty sure my config is good), that property is just null! I am on asp.net (not MVC) and the class MyClass is a user control (ascx).
