Security :: Profile Class Not Generated Automatically?
Feb 18, 2010
I'm new to this forum, Ok here is the problem. I tried to implement the user profile pattern that provided by ASP.Net 2.0, first I added this couple of tags to the web.config
<system.web>
<anonymousIdentification
enabled="true"/>
<profile>
<properties>
<add
name="Name"
allowAnonymous="true"/>
<add
name="Age"
allowAnonymous="true"
type="System.Int16"/>
<group
name="User">
<add
name="Category"
allowAnonymous="true"/>
<add
name="MemberSince"
allowAnonymous="true"
type="System.DateTime"/>
<group>
<properties>
<profile>
Then I buit the project and moved to the page code behind, the surpise is that I didn't have the Profile object in the intellisense.

I am using VB.Net/ASP.Net 2008/3.5 to create a Web Application and I am trying to access the Profile Class.
I notice that unlike a "Website" that you cannot access the Profile class from a "Web Application" and I was wondering what is the best way of adding the Profile class to a Web application?

I am building a social networking site for employees and where an employee can sign up and create a profile and enter job employment history, interests etc. into text boxs and a aspx. page will be created showing all their details. Then in a data grid a preview of their profile would be shown allowing a user to click on that field which would direct them to that persons profile.
I am finding it hard to find information on how to automatically create a profile for each user that signs up.

I have a couple of tables I ported over to a new database. Everything is exactly the same from the legacy one to the new one. The back-end code that submits the user generated data to the database is also the same. When I submit changes to the database, all of the submitted information populates the correct columns but the column that stores the GUID populates with all 0's. When I enter in the columns manually using SQL Server Management Studio, the GUID gets populated as it does in the legacy version.

I'm being stupid but don't know what I'm missing.I want to use asp.net profile and have a profile property.So in the webconfig for my site I've added:
<profile>
<properties>
<add name="Name"/>
</properties>
</profile>
But in the code behind a page I cannot use Profile.Visual Studio is just saying the Profile is not known in the current context.Thus I cannot do
Profile.Name = ....
or
x = Profile.GetPropertyValue(....)

I have site culture in URLs like this:
routes.MapRoute(
"Default",
"{language}/{controller}/{action}/{id}",
languageDefaults,
languageConstraints)
And it works like a charm with a little help from custom MvcHttpHandler that sets current thread's UI culture on every request based on route value. My problem is how do I automatically add the language route value from current request to all outgoing links? E.g. when page /EN/Foo/Bar is requested, I would like this
<%=Html.ActionLink(
"example link",
MVC.Home.Index()) %>
To automatically generate the same result as this:
<%=Html.ActionLink(
"example link",
MVC.Home.Index()
.AddRouteValue(
"language",
this.ViewContext.RouteData.Values["language"]) %>
And of course the same for all other helpers like BeginForm() etc. In my current code base there are already > 1000 occasions where these helpers are used, and requiring .AddRouteValue every time is very fragile as some developer will forget to use it with 100 % certainty. I hope the only solution is not creating custom Html helpers for everything?

I would like to inquire about the delete the data in gridview with automatic number parameter ..when I edit a field with auto parameter number, how do I delete a field that does not automatically sort ..ex:
1. ROBERT
2. EMILIA
3. JOSE
When I remove the column to 2 EMILIA, then display in gridview 1. ROBERT 3. JOSE.
Coding that I got when I remove emilia then display in gridview 1.ROBERT 2.JOSE .. (sequence automatically)
private void Bindemptydt() {
//Declare a datatable for the gridview
DataTable dt = new DataTable();
//Add Columns to the datatable
dt.Columns.Add("COLUMN");
dt.Columns.Add("TEXT");

1) I am making use of Profile class in my application, and using System.Web namespace, but intellisense is not able to recognize it. But when I make use of System.Web.Profile, it is working properly. What is the reason of this?
2) System.Web.Profile is not able to recognize IsAnonymous property, why is it not recognizing?

My question is dealing with the DataList control. I am trying to add a click event to the rows of the "table" in the OnItemDataBound event.
The problem I'm having is I can't get a reference (through a row id attribute) to the "row" being generated by the DataList control (and more specifically the item template). Is there a way to add id attributes to the rows being generated by the item template?

I'm trying to store some business objects in a SQLProfileProvider Profile property, however my business objects use public properties, not fields. This means I can't serialize as binary (correct?) so I'm serializing as XML. I've got the basic XML.Serialization attributes on the business objects, basically just XMLRoot and XMLElements with Type properties and an XMLArray attribute for a collection<T>. When I look at the data in the aspnet_Profile table, sure enough, it looks like an XML representation of my BOs:
[Code]....
Additionally, it works fine while the user is logged in.However, if the user logs out and logs back in, the profile property is a new instance of the BO, not what was saved in the profile. What am I missing here?

Disclaimer: My experience/knowledge of web services is very limited.
There is an existing web service WSDL that I have reverse engineered with wsdl.exe to create a C# proxy class.
Using Visual Studio 2008 I created a default web service template.
How do I reference the generated proxy class so that it will work in the web service?
For example -> calling http://localhost/webservice/service.asmx?WSDL will return the details from the proxy class.

I know it's possible to use this information in a winform, wpf or console application. But I rather to determine which user with what roles are running a sepecific method, so I could decide upon them and run different codes. In addition in a desktop app. how a user can login? Is there any special winform or wpf login control?

i'm worried about doing this since my changes will be overwritten when the dbml file is auto generated again (as they often are).
i'm thinking of doing a partial class and writing out the same properties to annotate them, but worried that it will complain about duplicates, and the reason i can't even experiment brings me to the second part of my questions...
... that, the expandable arrow on my dbml file listing is missing, right clicking and selecting "View Code" just displays an empty partial class as below...
Partial Class FPDataContext
End Class
I'm using VS2010 RC and am just developing an MVC 2.0 app where i want to be able to use the UI Annotations such as [UIHint("RelativeDateTime")]
edit:
here is my VB version edit as an example...
Imports System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations
<MetadataType(GetType(CommentMetaData))> _
Partial Public Class Comment
End Class
Public Class CommentMetaData
<UIHint("PostedSince")> _
Public Property DateAdded() As DateTime
End Class

I'm trying to implement my own Membership provider. I don't want to dig in very details but only high level logic. And first I don't understand is how can I use the class User generated from database in my CustomMembershipProvider project?
I thought I shouldn't generate class User in my project which uses my custom provider because it just don't need any users. It's only for login/logout functionality which implements Membership provider, not project that uses it.
Then I thought that I should pass Connection String to my Membership provider in order to make UserEntity somehow and use it inside Membership provider. I have two separate project for Membership provider and for any else project using Membership.
How could I create and use ADO.NET Entity in CustomMembershipProvider project for User table which located in database in other project?

When you add a Web Reference in an ASP.NET project in Visual Studio the web application's root namespace is always added.So, if I add a web reference called MyWebService and the default namespace of the application is MyApplication the namespace of the generated proxy class will be: MyApplication.MyWebService.
However, I want to be able to specify which namespace to use for the generated class (to skip the default namespace and have the namespace be called simply MyWebService).Is using wsdl.exe through the command line the only way of accomplishing this? I don't want to manually edit the generated class (since it can get re-generated).
