Configuration :: How To Call The NameSpaces Defined In Web.Config In C# Projects 4.0
Aug 30, 2010
I am working on a web project in Visual Studio 2010 with ASP.NET 4.0/C# 4.0.My requirement is to remove all the namespace referenced from codebehind in C# and put it in web.config.
As per the link, [URL], from MSDN I added the namspaces to web.config.
Now my web.config will look like this.
[code]....

See the page [URL].
Defining namespaces in web.config works fine with VB.NET, but C# is not recognizing the namespaces.

If MVC application has multiple projects (The solution may grow large in future). These projects may share controllers such as application controller accouts controller and there may also be a situation in which namespace of one project is shared by other project. What is the best way of implementing such solution. One approach may be to use areas.

I have what I think is a very common scenario but I've searched quite some time now and can't seem to find the answer! I have a standard web app that has a web.config in the root directory. I have some account management pages in a subdirectory called Accounts. Any timeouts at the root level work fine - the user is redirected to Default.aspx as indicated in my Forms authentication. My problem is when the users are in the Accounts (or any) subdirectory and they go off for coffee and the app times out. On the next click, they get an error saying "Accounts/Default.aspx" cannot be found. And Default.aspx is not there as it sits at the root level. It's trying to redirect them to the default login URL as defined in the web.config file but that doesn't work when the user is sitting in a subdirectory. I don't want to put a default page in this any every sub directory. I have tried putting a web.config file in the subdirectory but it throws the error about machine to application level/IIS.

If application is started without debugging - it runs smoothly, when I press F5 I get: "Unable to start debugging on the web server. Could not start ASP.NET debugging. More information may be available by starting the project without debugging. Click Help for more information"I noticed that problems are caused by URL Rewrite section in web.config:
<rewrite>
<rules>
<clear />
<rule name="LowerCaseRule" stopProcessing="true">
<match url="[A-Z]" ignoreCase="false" />
when I comment it out - I can start debugging. Also debugging works on VS's built-in web server.I'm running Win7 64 bit, VS 2010, application's framework is 4.0, in IIS application has ASP.NET 4.0 Intergrated pool set

I read an article here to find the solution to my problem. But I found that it is not working for me. Whenever I tries to use any function I have to add same namespace on every page. by doing using System.Web.UI . Can I also use it for namespace that is being created along with an application. i.e. Library is an another namespace that lies in App_Code folder not as an assembly.
[code]......
Is there any way to get them available at Code Behind Page

I am referencing some classes in my _layout.cshtml file and I have the namespaces in my Views/web.config <pages><namespaces> section and the layout page does not resolve. If I put @using statements in the layout page, it works fine. Shouldn't the layout page respect the web.config section?

If I add a namespace element to the system.web pages namespaces section of the web.config do I still have to add references in the code behinds in order to have access to the members of that namespace at design-time?

I am not able to use the below namespaces in order to Run a powershell script:
using
System.Management.Automation;
using
System.Management.Automation.Runspaces;
I have installed Windows Powershell 2 and the framework is 2.0. I have added the referenece System.Management in the web.config file. Also i have browsed the above 2 namespaces and added to the project in add reference tab. Still i get the below message:
CS0234: The type or namespace name 'Automation' does not exist in the namespace 'System.Management' (are you missing an assembly reference?)

<configuration>
<system.net>
<mailSettings>
<smtp
from="user@user.com">
<network
host="smtp.server.com"
password="password"
userName="username" />
</smtp>
</mailSettings>
</system.net>

How can I call the "host"setting from the App.config file in my C# code?
I have tried this but it does not work.
SmtpClient mailClient =
new SmtpClient(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["network"]);

I am attempting to setup Config Transforms on my project that I migrated to VS 2010. The web project works just fine, but I have a WCF Host project that I seem to be unable to add transforms.
Has anyone had this problem before?

Does anyone no why web.config transforms are not available for Web Site Projects in VS2010. I thought that Web Site Projects where once introduced as the successor of Web Application Projects. But now the lack the deployment feature which I would really like to use.
Maybe someone knows a workaround, without having to convert 70 websites? Converting to Web Application Projects isn't a real option because I use Table Profile Provider by Hao Kong, which doesn't work with this type of project.

I'm developing an ASP.NET WebForm application with Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and C#.
I've defined the following listener on Web.Config:
<system.diagnostics>
<trace>
<listeners>
<add name="myListener" type="System.Diagnostics.TextWriterTraceListener" initializeData="D:LogslogWeb.txt" />
</listeners>
</trace>
</system.diagnostics>
How can redirect output from OutPut Window to this listener? All sentences like this:
System.Diagnostics.Trace.WriteLine("IntegratedManaged: ResolveCulture");
or
System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("IntegratedManaged: ResolveCulture");

I just moved to a new PC and installed VS 2010. I copied all of my websites over from the old machine and now when I open the old websites on the new machine, they do not show up in my recent projects list on the start page. New websites that I make do show up there but the old ones do not. This is very inconvenient. Is there a way to make old projects that I open show up in the list?
This brings up another question. Is there a way to make a shortcut that will open VS2010 up with a website already loaded so that I don't have to go through the file open dialog every time?

I've seen some teams that start breaking into multiple projects from the beginning and others build behemoth single projects. The large project teams say that one massive project is easier to maintain than multiple smaller projects.

I have deploy my web site, it contains a project!
in MyWeb there are all the aspx page and some entites datamodel, in MyApp there are the class with function like "getter data from DB" and there is a entity data model.
afeter the deploy, I have only the web.config and the connection string for the entity datamodel....itīs run ok, read/write the data on the DB.
The problem is with MyApp.....after the deploy it is a dll file and I donīt have the app.config and the entity inside it donīt run, not read/write nothing on the DB.
There arenīt error or messager but not read/write the data in the MyApp project.
all run on the iis 7
now...the question is:
I lose the connection string (in app.config) after the deploy?
Can I put a entity in the MyWeb and read it in another project (myApp)?
ps: for connect to DB I use not the c# code:
var db=from x in AccessDB.Example select x;

I need to create a sample project (for educational purposes) and I'm faced with the choice between Web Site Projects or Web Application Projects. This feels similar to the choice between C# and VB. My question isn't about the differences between these 2 choices, but rather which is more popular (relevant, recognizable) to the general ASP.NET community.Has anyone seen any statistics in terms of adoption/usage of these 2 different project types? What project type should I use to reach the widest audience?Update: I created a poll on this subject - http://poll.fm/2e6cy

I have a multi-tiered application. I would like to publish the class libraries to UI developers to let them add to their web or windows projects to add all the functionality.
I would like to restrict access so only a certain project can be referenced. The reason is so that they do not refer to the data access layer directly and start making calls that would bypass the business logic built into the business tier.
UI->>Business Logic->>Data Access
So in other words, BL and DA are deployed as compiled assemblies. BL references DA. UI will reference BL, but I would like to strictly prevent any other project from referencing DA directly.
