Configuration :: Links To Documents On Another Server Behind A Firewall
Nov 15, 2010
I have 4 links on my asp.net page which open documents on an internal server which is behind firewall. I realized this was incorrectly designed as these links do work while i am the internal network they would not work for an end user accessing the web site outside the network as the links point to a resource on a secure server which is not accessible outside the network.

I'm using ASP.Net but my question is a little more general than that. I'm interested in reading about strategies to prevent users from fooling with their HTML form values and links in an attempt to update records that don't belong to them.
For instance, if my application dealt with used cars and had links to add/remove inventory, which included as part of the URL the userid, what can I do to intercept attempts to munge the link and put someone else's ID in there? In this limited instance I can always run a check at the server to ensure that userid XYZ actually has rights to car ABC, but I was curious what other strategies are out there to keep the clever at bay.

I just deployed a site and all looks okay as far as it being up there and the files are there. However when I go to click on any link, they don't even send a request back to the browser. If I right click then open link in new tab is sends it along just fine but it seems like the page can't initiate a request back to the server,

Looking at the OpenID protocol, it appears that the relying party needs to send a request to the identity provider. In our situation, this is not exactly ideal since the identity provider is behind a firewall-- our server will not be able to make the request. However, the user accessing our website (client-side, e.g. javascript or redirects) would be able to. So my question is this: does OpenID support an identity provider behind the firewall? If not, is there a secure way of accomplishing this?DIT:The client has a web server behind their firewall. They have employees that visit our website and thus are able to visit our site and their webserver which resides behind their firewall-- our server, however, would not be able to.

How do I do the old chestnut of scanning a directory of documents and building a web page that displays the list with built in links to the documents. Also the usual UPLOAD and DELETE functions would be good in order to add more or remove documents from the web form.
I come from a ColdFusion background where this would easily be acheived with the <CFDIRCTORY> and <CFFILE> tags...... !!
Am using VB rather than C#.

I am new to .net and i'm stuck with the following issue.
I have a windows GUI application and i need to communicate with a firewall using HTTPS protocol. I did some search on google and the results retrieved showed to use HTTPWebRequest and HTTPWebResponse objects.
But does this objects us HTTP protocal or does it work for HTTPS also. also is SSL required for HTTPS protocol. For SSL we need some security certificate. How to retrieve that certificate. Will a certificate need to available in each client machine

I have an ASP web Applicaton using C# that runs great on my local host where I can access the documents via Fully qualified path (e.g., C://MyProjects/MyProject/File.xls).However once I publish this to a server (and it is a virtual server) I can no longer provide a fully qualified path name I can only give something like (//server/project/File.xls - which is the path I publish to) and it doesn't like this at all. First it doesn't publish the documents to the server even though I added them to my project. So I put them on the server manually and even tried adding the documents as embedded resources but that doesn't allow me to edit and open them as needed. This is really a pain. Why can I not just put them in the file path and access them using "File.xls" like I used to in the old days? I don't like this change at all. It should not take me a day to figure out how to access a document on a server.

We had a website deployed on IIS server remotely say www.liveserver.com.
We recently decided to make a copy of the website internal to the organisation so we brought a server and copied all the code from live server and configured it and say it is http//archives-testserver.com
Everything seems to work fine but while navigating and clicking on certain module links within http//archives-testserver.com......the domain name is getting rewritten to www.liveserver.com and user is made to navigate on the live site. I wonder where this
configuration is with in IIS...
I looked under properties under website identification and everything is referring it as http://arhives-testserver.com. also thr is a file called securityRedirect.inc and ifor handling errors and all the references have been changed and couldn't find anything in web.config. where else to look for probable reference to live site?

I'm using vs2010. I have a left column simular to a navigation area and I'm trying to figure out a way to display the FK links that appear at the end of a list as columns, in my navigation area. One thought was to place a duplicate table in the navigation area and hide all the columns except for the FK links. Is there an easier way to accomplish this.

My printing task is different from other web projects.
I will explain the task clearly.
I have 3 DIV Tags in a web page.
When I click Print All button in the web page, i have to store the contents of 3 DIV tags in rich text format file. Then i perform some codings for modifying the contents of 3 DIV Tags. Similarly i have to store the contents of them in same rich text file (appending to a file after page break) and so on.

I'm working with an asp.net application that produces large PDF documents from HTML. The content is perhaps complex (detailed grid type listings, css styled, running to 40+ pages) compared to typical usage. None of the libraries we've tried are performing adequately. Typically a 40 page document is taking upwards of a minute to render on a powerful multi-core machine.
We are able to decouple the generation from the web application and also pre-generate documents in some cases. Still, the frequency with which content changes requires a faster solution.
So, does anyone have experience of a PDF generation component that can output a content heavy 40 page document in seconds rather than minutes? Or are our expectations unrealistic?
NB: I'd rather not "out" the poorly performing components here as we are seeking support from vendors to make improvements. I've reviewed previously questions posted on StackOverflow and none appear to deal with this type or size of document.
